As a Minneapolis native I can correct one thing - it was ACTUALLY produced by Monte Moir who was a cold ass white boy from Minneapolis 😉 but yes the album itself was executively produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis
Fun Fact : Alexander O'Neal was originally supposed to be the lead singer for The Time Prince wanted Morris Day to do it but Morris wanted to continue to play drums so Prince fired Alexander and hired Jellybean Johnson to play drums and Morris to lead luckily for Alex Terry and Jimmy didn't forget him
I picked up my goddaughter's 8-year-old from school a few years back and happened to be playing "Fake" by Alexander O'Neal in the car. She kept playing it over and over again, went home, found it on her tablet and within weeks proceeded to scare her grandparents rigid when she was able to sing along to every word at a family gathering.
His voice was always fire. Try listening to the duet with him and Cherrelle, Saturday Love. One of the great duets (and underrated). Thanks for your reaction to O'Neal👍🏾
The 70s and 80s music always have feelings And.this song got some major vibes . And speaking of vibes. Looking good as always Lizzie. Love and peace from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 ❤.
When "If You Were Here Tonight" (1985) was released, Alexander O'Neal had some of the greatest balladeers as his contemporaries: Luther Vandross James Ingram Jeffrey Osborne Freddie Jackson, etc. would definitely influence this smooth yet powerful style.
Alex was hitting in the 80s...... don't know if you heard Cherelle before....but definitely gotta hear her too....they was doing their thang on her single Saturday Love......forever a classic!!!!
That entire album is great. I still listen to it. "A Broken Heart Can Mend," "Do you Wanna Like I Do," and "Look at us Now.." are just a few gems along with this one which is my fave of Alexander O'Neal's. He is and was a tremendous talent despite some personal struggles that likely hurt his career a bit.
Soulful music, timeless music. I think that's why I always return to music like this despite hearing new music all the time. It's only this kind of stuff that remains.
Love the red hair..sis… yes that Alexander O’Neal song was the joint back in the day.. I was in the 11th grade in high school in Miami Florida when that slow jam came out.. many illegal parties after dark on the beach ..Sneaking out on school nights😂😂😂.. aww the good old days.. try his other big slow jam hit “ the morning after “
One of the first songs I learned how to sing when my voice changed as a teenager lol!!!! Alex the original lead singer of the Time. Song produced by Monte Moir of the Time.
You are right , everyone looks at the 80’s as so cheesy, until you really listen. We were so laid back and chill in the 80’s, and this music was our soundtrack, working and going to school during the week, and putting on some nice and fashionable clothes and hanging out on the weekends. I was in my 20’s the whole 80’s decade, it was a blast! Cool chill times!
What's going on Liz? Glad to see you enjoying and vibing with the "Great Alexander O'Neal"! If you like that you should check out a couple of his other songs: ( Sunshine, Never knew love like this Feat Cherrelle, Fake, Criticize and Saturday Love also Feat Cherrelle) All 100% like! 70's 80's Up! I saw Alexander O'Neal live in London. He was very good and the songs were great and he had a great orchestra as well. Can suggest "Criticise" also by Alexander O'Neal?
The 1980s were absolutely brilliant for music. Now I have to go back and enjoy all the heavy metal I ignored while I was chasing Prince for 35 years 😂 Metallica is 🔥🔥🔥

You should have a listen to: Lisa Fischer - how can I ease the pain Lisa Fischer - wildflower Chante Moore - love’s taken over Chante Moore - candlelight & you
Just my opinion todays music don’t hold an candle to soul music from the 60s 70s 80s and 90s even some in the 2000s. Unless your under the age of 25, todays music is not touching, romantic, cleaver, powerful, like it use to be, now it’s cringy, raunchy or meaningless. Even with all the filters and tricks of the trade, it falls seriously short of capturing all ages of audiences/listeners, just those who can relate
I've never heard of Alexander O'Neal in My life, but I have to admit he has a great voice,I love this song,I love the melody, and it's so romantic!.John Guinto
I'd like to hear your review of 2 of ABBA's Arrival songs...Eagle and/or Marionette. Both are great IMO, Eagle is spacey? Marionette is sobering? L8R's
Alexander is a product of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who are two of the greatest Producers. Alex is One of my favorite singer. 🙏🏾❤️💐🎤🎹🎼
Originally hired by Prince and was the lead singer of The Time for a minute
As a Minneapolis native I can correct one thing - it was ACTUALLY produced by Monte Moir who was a cold ass white boy from Minneapolis 😉 but yes the album itself was executively produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis

If you liked this one, you'll love Johnny Gill's "My My, My". Although released in 1990, it could've easily passed for a 70s/80s release.
Great reaction Liz! Might want to give a listen to "still got the blues" by Gary Moore.
