- The entrepreneurs behind a Brooklyn fashion retailer are practicing a zero waste lifestyle at work and at home. Designer Daniel Silverstein and his partner Mario DeMarco run Zero Waste Daniel, a brand making genderless clothing and accessories out of upcycled and recycled materials from factories, cutting rooms and designers across New York City.
“We’re able to see value in things that other people would call trash,” Silverstein said. The duo is disciplined about sending nothing to landfills. All of the scraps that they don’t use in their own work remains in the shop until it can be repurposed.
Silverstein and DeMarco, who met on Tinder, also live together and say they practice their “zero waste” philosophy in their home life as well. “We don’t have a trash can at home,” DeMarco said. “Everything that [Daniel] talks about in his shop is actually happening in our home.”

I looooove what you are doing! Do it bigger and more! Hire more people...make a bigger brand so that this is a mainstream that grows bigger than H&M. Make people more aware!!!
This is beyond incredible I’m blown away by their creativity
they're both such sweet and inspiring people 🥰
This is what I call being you great job guys😊
Impressive
Truly inspiring and a beautiful motivation boost to give a take on the zero waste life style through a creative point of view! I'm astonished how you not only build a brand on valuing trash as great materials, but that you also bring it into your home! Such a comfortable space with all the plants and I'm stunned by the Bowie artwork made out of different plastic pieces!! Ingenious!!!
