    Some more useful information several different people have mentioned in the comments!
    Another thing about withdrawing cash from ATM's in Egypt - many times you'll be given the choice between exchanging money "with conversion" and "without conversion". Always select "without conversion", because your own bank's exchange rate is always better than the suggested conversion rate, and they often also tag on a hefty flat fee for this "service".
    You can also tip in GBP (not just euros or US dollars)
    just an fyi, uber works with any phone number. I've used it on an international phone that had no service...using wifi
    A sim card expires when your visa expires (so if you get a 30 day visa on arrival, your sim card will stop working after 30 days when that visa expires. You can always extend your visa at an office in Egypt and then update the phone company after you receive your extension-but that does mean you will probably be without service for a while until they complete the extension process.)
    Ubers prefer cash as the drivers get payed 30 days after doing the trip, so if you have cash, that is best.

      @@monmoonmon3017 Dubai! To be honest, I have very little interest in visiting Dubai 😅From everything I have heard, I just don't think it is my vibe. But I hope one day to visit anyway, because I want to travel everywhere 😆But Dubai is expensive and not at the top of my list. I am hoping to travel to Jordan, Morocco or Tunisia next. But not sure when, I need more money lol. And I still have many places I want to visit in Egypt as well.

    We are Canadians and we loved our Egyptian adventure. We arrived in Egypt September 29 and left October 13. We took many of your recommendations and we were very glad that we did. We did stay in Giza at Amarante pyramids hotel and really loved it. We stayed for four nights, and we were right close to Faisal Street. It was a very busy area, but we wanted to be immersed in the Egyptian culture. Everybody was very friendly and we did not feel pressured to buy anything. We felt very safe. We then stayed in the heart of Cairo at Sofitel and we enjoyed it but it was much more expensive.
    We did get a Sim card and got orange and we’re very happy with the service from the people working in the offices, as well as the Wi-Fi itself.
    We checked out some of the restaurants and food that you have suggested, and I absolutely love kefta and fool
    The fruits and vegetables they had in the restaurants and on the Nile river cruise were beautiful and very rich and fresh.
    We will be coming back. Please keep doing your videos as your information is absolutely priceless.

      Ach I know what you mean, they annoy me too actually 😆 I love Egypt, and unfortunately a lot of vloggers seem to jump on the "scam!/harassed" bandwagon for views. First of all, it's not as bad as the internet makes it seem, and even then, that stuff happens in touristic areas. REAL Egypt, local areas and people, are extremely generous, friendly and helpful, expecting nothing in return. So many tourists only see the touristic side of Egypt, where pesky vendors congregate and scammers do of course flock, and then they come to the conclusion that the entire country is like that. It's absolutely not true, and sad they only see that and share it with everyone as a whole truth. Thanks for your support and commenting man! Much more to come, I have dozens of ideas of videos I want to make, things I want to show, and it's just about finding the time to do it all 😅

    First of all, I'd like to thank you for your informative videos, which would be very helpful for anyone planning on visiting Egypt, as well as helping us clear any misconception related to safety in Egypt, especially amid the current Israeli-Palestinian struggle. As for the issue of only accepting credit cards for purchasing monumental sites' tickets, if I'm not mistaken, they would accept your cash payments as long as you have a (Bank / Exchange office) receipt to prove the source of your money; it's one of the government's actions for fighting the parallel (Black) market.

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  9 месяцев назад +1

      Oh, well maybe that is true...but I don't know. They didn't ask me for a receipt to pay in EGP, they just said I needed to pay with card. But perhaps that is a possibility. I suppose that means foreigners wanting to pay in cash would need to carry that receipt from the bank with them though, which I don't think many people would do....who knows 😅

    • @mohamedbastawisy276
      @mohamedbastawisy276 9 месяцев назад

      @@Gventures I know it's not a very reliable option. Not everyone would be carrying the bank receipts everywhere they go or even still be holding on to them at that point. Anyway, I wish you a great time in Egypt and all the best with your channel.

    I missed to write that one should not even think of renting a car to drive in Cairo!!! For foreigners that is possible after 11PM and Friday mornings when there is no trafic. Any other time the trafic is very chaotic! I don't think that an average tourist has skills to drive in Cairo. In addition, tourists are in Cairo for fun, not to be stressed while driving. Using Uber is, also, probably more economical.

    • @Gventures

      No, no such metro at the airport. There is one OUTSIDE of the airport now, but it's really far away, no at all accessible from the airport (it's a 2 hour walk from the terminal 1 to the El Nozha the nearest metro station 😆). You'd 100% have to take a taxi to get to the metro station, which charges you the airport fees, so one is better off just getting an Uber or taxi to their destination and skipping the metro altogether. They SHOULD have built it leading directly into the airport, but nay.

    thank you for mentioning that canadians are no longer able to obtain a visa upon arrival in egypt. i had no idea. i guess the rules have changed since october 1, 2023 in response to canada denying visas for many egyptian citizens. in order to obtain one, i would have to mail in an application to the egyptian consulate in canada, which must include the flight information to and from egypt, my accommodation booking info (much of which i would have done while in egypt on my planned three week stay), my past employment history (even though i’ve been retired for over ten years), in addition to mailing in my passport, as well as $150 non-refundable. and after all that, the visa could still be denied without explanation. if approved, the visa would be good for 90 days for a stay of no more than 30 days. the last thing i want to do is book everything and then apply for the visa only to have it denied. this reeeeeeally sucks.

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  2 месяца назад +1

      I think you wouldn't have any problems. I'm on many different Egypt FB groups and have seen plenty of comments from Canadians such as yourself asking or worrying about their visas, but I've never heard of someone being denied. You're right, Egypt did implement this new rule in retaliation for the visa rules for their own citizens to go to Canada, but the likelihood of being denied is very low, it's just a pain in the ass for Canadian citizens and that is what they wanted. Maybe hop on some FB groups and ask this question yourself, I am sure you'll hear back from some people telling about their own experience. Like I said, it's just a pain in the ass and you have to plan further in advance, but it's absolutely still possible for Canadians to come visit Egypt, I have met some myself here since that new rule was enacted. Good luck!

    • @dwdeclare1965
      @dwdeclare1965 2 месяца назад

      @@Gventures thanks. perhaps you’re right. the way i see it, i have two options. 1) book my flight and the hotel in cairo for the first few days as planned, fly there, and hope i don’t get denied upon entry, or 2) fill out the application answering all that is required, pay the nonrefundable fee, and include the priority post stamped return envelope, and again, hope that it’s not refused. i read of a man and his family where he was refused with no explanation, but assumes it’s because he was ex-military and is now a police officer…someone who is more closely associated with the canadian government. in my case, i’m concerned i could possibly be refused on my application because of egypt’s debauchery law. on my past employment history, i would have to mention that i was manager of an adult store (aka pornography store) for 15 years. probably it would be okay, but again, i don’t want to spend thousands of dollars beforehand only to have to cancel and in all likelihood, pay a penalty. i may just have to hold off for now and hope the situation changes in the near future, hopefully before the 2027 solar eclipse in luxor, which i really want to experience. in the meantime…🎶california here i come…🎶 maybe i’ll just go to los angeles and see beck at the hollywood bowl in july. it’s no pyramids, but sometimes you gotta take what you can get.

      It seems to me that yes, it is card only. I went to the Egyptian museum right after and it was also card only, but I forgot to put it in the video 😅 I think this may be the new policy for foreigners. I saw locals paying cash. Any card should work, I don't have concerns using my card at the tourist sites. Or any ATM to withdraw money, for that matter. Though I know that is an issue in some countries, I have never heard of card skimming being an issue here.

      Thank you! Uh, are you Egyptian? Your name looks Turkish to me 😅 Or could it be Indian....🤔 I can't figure it out, let me know 😆
      If you are Egyptian then you don't need a card you are allowed to pay in cash. But for foreigners, you must pay with a card. I don't know, if you don't have a card, maybe they would make an exception...? But the ticket office is very busy, not sure the guys behind the desk will be very patient with you. The other option is to get one of the guys on the streets to buy your ticket for you (they come up to you trying to get you into the complex, trying to sell you camel rides, etc.) I prefer not to deal with those guys as they are just trying to get money out of you and will try and scam you by charging you high prices, but it's an option. The other option would be to ask another foreigner in line with you to buy your ticket, and you give them the cash for it. Honestly though, I would try to get a card before going on your trip! The pyramids are not the only site forcing foreigners to pay with card, they also do this at the Egyptian Museum, Cairo Citadel, and many, many other ancient sites, from what I have been hearing.

      Nice, thanks for watching lady! I'm not really sure what you mean about the atmosphere for African American women....are you talking about racism? If you are, I can't speak from experience to the atmosphere for African American women as I am not one myself, but I don't see why there would any different type of behavior or treatment. Firstly, there are plenty of darker women here and also many immigrants from Sudan in Egypt. But for us, all they see it that we are foreigners from a rich country. I've never heard anyone complain about it.
      People that work in tourism speak English, but many regular, every day Egyptians do not speak that well or no English whatsoever. But you'll be in touristic areas or with your tour group so that won't be an issue at all for you. I didn't speak Arabic when I got here and I managed on my own, and I still do (I don't know that much Arabic).
      Yes many times I have a scarf, but I never really use it for my hair, it's more to cover my front area in case my shirt is a little low (don't expose cleavage at all if you want to be respectful and aligned with the cultural norms here. I also use a scarf to cover my shoulders if I am wearing a shirt that exposes them. You may need a scarf to enter a mosque (even if you don't need a scard-like at a touristic mosque-it is still respectful to wear one).
      I made a video about what to wear in Egypt: ruclips.net/video/hIyojPXrp-Q/видео.html
      I will also share a playlist that has informational videos about Egypt like basic words in Arabic, prices, nightlife, etc. in case you are interested in that.
      ruclips.net/p/PLSI2ywwuZ8MDAws8PHh7LvPMIhXDtkKUh
      But if you take a look at my channel main page and scroll down I have different playlists that are more categorized, things like: Local Life, Informational Videos, Tourism Topics, Egyptian Cuisine and Street Food, etc.

      @Gventures Hello!! I did see your other videos, after commenting. LOL!! I had been scrolling, picking and choosing so I was missing things. I just allowed them to play through back to back yesterday while I was working and really got through a bunch and made some good notes.
      I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

      Thanks so much! Allatul Masr! 😆 I actually don't speak or think in permanent terms much, but I see myself here for the foreseeable future. Cairo is my base and I'm happy living here, I can see myself living in Cairo for years (and traveling to different parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Europe while doing so).

    Giselle, your tips are very useful. I Have a question for you: I will have some free hours in Cairo and I would like to visit some places. How is UBER to visit tourist places in Cairo?

      Very useful! I never take tours, so when I first arrived to Egypt solo I explored on my own (ancient sites, markets, etc.) and took Ubers everywhere, it's how I got around.
