I just recently joined your patron and I am LOVING your podcasts. Can 💯 agree that quality is top notch- for sure worth it! Also agree about how the birthing experience can change the trajectory of having more kids. My first was a dream and I instantly knew I wanted another. Less than 2 years later had our second and that really let me know I was done. I waffled a little after her but never to the point I was willing to make another happen. It made it easy for us to know we were done.

My daughter is a few months younger than Livi. We thought for sure our girl was it for us. We were so content and happy as a family of 3, and then… I got pregnant right after my 41st birthday! We now have a little 8mo old boy. He was the last thing we ever expected, but man what a crazy, beautiful blessing he’s been for our family.

Thanks so much for being so honest and realistic about having and wanting one child. I know people with 3/4/5 kids but they basically outsource them to nannies/daycare. So much better that you are hands-on. Quality over quantity xx

Been following you since the beginning. This video is so good regarding the deep shit. Thank you for being honest and shedding a light on this. Primarily the question “why aren’t you having more kids?” “When are you having another kid?” I personally think those questions are the rudest most insensitive questions ever to a mother.

After having my son, who is 5 now, we tried to have another pretty quickly because I always dreamt of having my kids be close in age and hoped that would help them always feel they had someone but we struggled with secondary infertility and just couldn’t make it happen and I still have a hard time with that sometimes but my husband always reminds me that I get to have a different type of relationship with my child than my friends with multiple children do and whether it was a decision or just the situation you were given that always makes me feel better. Loved hearing your perspective! Been here since the closet but not sure I have ever commented so long time coming haha 💛💛

I really respect your views on having more children. My husband and I were married 8 years before having our daughter who is now 12. We did not have any help. It was hard. I felt pressure to have more kids but we made the decision to only have one. We feel like our family is complete. It is so much easier and more fun as they get older. We get to travel with her and she gets to have experiences that she might not have been able to experience if we had more children. You have to make the right choice for your family. Thanks for sharing.

As a long time viewer, I really appreciate your perspective on having more kids. My husband and I made the decision to have one child at 34, and I struggle because society makes me feel like I should have more but we are happy and content with one. Wanting my first child to have a sibling is a terrible reason to have a second!

I had my first child at 35. I Said even when he was a baby that I did not want another child, people did not belive me. Well, he turns 6 tommorrow and his only " sibling" is our cat 🤣 And people don't ask anymore about the next child!

I think it’s a terrible reason if that’s the only reason. But if a couple truly wants another child then giving your 1st child a sibling is like killing 2 birds with one stone.

I can completely relate to the mind game and nostalgia when looking back in time. I was so excited to turn 30 because I kept hearing it’s the best time of your life and so far it’s absolutely true. It’s still sometimes emotionally hard to look back and know that the stages of getting married, having babies, and preschoolers around are done. It doesn’t make me any less excited for where we are but I do feel like I mourn that stage whenever I look back

My youngest (I have 3 daughters) just turned 8 and when you joked about animal crossing teaching her how to read, Roblox taught my daughter how to read or at least brought her to the next level. She is so far ahead in her class with reading and spelling/writing that her teacher has to split her off during that time to do higher level stuff. I could definitely see the benefit of homeschooling in that aspect that she isn’t held back to what the level the rest of the class is at. Her teacher has her helping other kids read which I think is really helpful as well. It teaches her lots of new lessons by teaching others. But seriously, those video games really do basically force them to read. She can also type really fast because of the communicating they do in those games. So cool!

Another long time subby. I remember when your fave foundation was the Mat Velvet + and you used Benefit powderflage under your eyes. 😂I am a parent of 2 daughters, but let me tell you! The decision to have 1 kid, no kids, 10 kids, whatever, is personal and no one's business. We literally owe NO ONE an explanation as to why our family is set up the way it is. Or why we choose to not have kids. Or maybe we desperately want them and it's not happening. 😞You'll notice men are never directed these questions and expectations. It goes to society's expectations of women and we should challenge such stereotypes. I am so happy you are happy! You, Brad and Livvy are such a beautiful family. I also LOVED what you said about putting yourself out there. "Put yourself out there, but not for approval." AMEN

I kinda stopped watching RUclips and hadn’t seen you for a while, but I’m so glad I took the time for this video. (You got me with the “more kids” bait 🙈.) I love your mature, grown up attitude because that’s where I’m finding myself too. Social media tempts me to start comparing, but that just ain’t it… especially when life is actually great!
I totally understand and respect your point of view on the kids topic. I became a mom at the same time you did and I felt that right away- that everyone’s experience as a parent is so different depending on variables like help, health, temperament, etc. It’s so important for moms (and everyone of course) to stop the judgement because experiences as a parent can be night and day. I felt you when you talked about a demanding baby turning life as you know it upside down and yet not asking for help. I have 3 kids now and there’s a lot of guilt about not having the time and energy I wish I had for each of them like I did when there was only one. No matter what we do there’s always going to be that little tinge of “mom guilt,” you might as well just go with your gut and do the best you can do.
I’m going to come back for your next video. Oh, one thing I’ve always looked to you for are the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Recs! It’s coming up! 😅

Thank you for talking about your decision to be one and done. My husband and I are currently struggling with this, but mainly with the societal pressure to have a second and my son being the only grandchild is really bringing on the guilt from my family. I so appreciate having role models to look up to with one child- seems silly, but representation is important! If we’re content as a triangle family, why change it? ❤

The scariest thing about being around 40 is that unlike other ages, by the time you are 45, you are NOT going to look young anymore. You just KNOW when someone is 45+ , but people younger than that can pass for any age. It's because your hormones change, your collagen and bone goes, no matter what you do to your skin...That's the scary part. Because agism is a thing.

I’m so happy to hear that you have one child because that’s what you want versus hearing that perhaps you’ve been struggling for years with infertility. This is me at 50 never having any kids 😂 by choice, but it is heartbreaking when someone is trying desperately to conceive and can’t.

Thank you for articulating your thoughts on having more kids. As a longtime viewer I always wondered about why you had one (even though I know it’s really nobody’s business). I have a 2 year old at age 38, married for 6 years before kid, and you perfectly described my delivery/recovery/colicky and cranky baby. She’s great now and things are much easier….but the thought of going through all that again makes me cringe even though it does often compete with thoughts of will I regret not having another. I’m hoping I can make the same peace with having only one the way you did soon because it occupies a lot of time thinking about it. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing because it really resonated with me.

Long time silent subbie here since your closet days. Always love your take on things. Especially life advice and your thoughts on why you treat people nice when you are at restaurants etc..Just had my first child 3 months ago at 35 and considering about just having one child. It’s tough cause people are already asking about a second child and I grew up with 2 brothers. I actually went back to your pregnancy vlogs as a comfort when I was pregnant. There was a minor health scared during my 20 week scan. Thankfully everything was fine. I am not sure if mentally I can go through all that anxiety again. On top of that I don’t really have anyone else to rely on. Even grandparents who want multiple grandchildren cannot help all the time. I wanna be super hands on and focus on my child.. i don’t know if I can/want to do that with multiple. Even I get to work from home..people around me with multiple kids will brush it off like .. wait till your kid reach all the milestone you would wanna do it all over again.. but it’s not that easy, and like you said.. i don’t want to and there’s nothing wrong with that. My husband and I were together for 10 years before we had our baby.. and the transition is a little hard.. we have 2 senior dogs as well.. and dog mom guilt is real when you have a new born!! I really wanted to hear your take on having one child/ multiple children.. even thought about sending u a message this morning since this decision is really bugging me..And when I saw this video’s title I was like OMG!!! Thank you so much for sharing! U made me feel so much better and less confuse!! :)

I relate so much to what you’ve said about kids. I was a VERY happy only child, so much so that my son is going to remain an only. We are happy being able to dedicate all of our time and attention to just him. But wow, I’ve learned that people are veerrry opinionated about only children 😂
My favorite is when someone says I need to have another one so that my son won’t have to care for his parents on his own when we’re elderly. Dude, I am not having kids to be my future caretakers. Get your affairs in order as if you have no children at all. I know so many people with siblings that still got stuck doing it all on their own. Just like I know more people that aren’t close to their siblings than that are.
I think the only reason to have more children is because you want more children 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm 41 & don't have kids by choice (dog mom🙋🏻‍♀️) and people annoy me when they ask why, how and why...like not everyone is trying to get wifed up & have kids. I love kids & I'm the best auntie but having kids is not my vibe 🙃

Another thing. We need to normalize saying motherhood is hard. It doesn't matter the circumstances motherhood is hard.

I’ve been a viewer ufff for like 10 years. 😅
I totally get you on a second child I’m 35 and have a 2 1/2 baby girl. I got pregnant after being married for 12 years. So I get your life before baby with hubby and then boom life was so different with a child.
So I had a bad C-section birth and recovery. She had been a tough baby too I have had no help other than hubby. I worked full time from home I had to quit a year ago, I lost like 20 pounds due to stress. I got down to weighing 100 pounds. Anyways it’s been tough but love being a mom. Now thinking of a second baby gets me really nervous 😬. But we decided on trying next year if it happens good if not that’s it.
But hey it’s that’s are decisions and our life so who cares what others think. 🤷🏻‍♀️
