Love this game. It's so chill and relaxing. One thing to bear in mind later, because exploration is VERY important here: Get the inhabit of carrying 3 iron, 2 titanium and 1 silicon anytime you go on an expedition. You can use those to quickly build a 1 room survival shelter with a door anywhere you go to recover oxygen. Then when you're ready to move on, you break it down again, with no loss. Once you have a T2 backpack, the occupied inventory slots are plentiful enough it won't cramp your style too much. Keep your eyes peeled for golden chests as well. They have advanced materials and high quality stuff that can really give you a leg up in the early game.
..plus ofc unopened chest contents 'upgrade' as your game advances, so leaving chests around, unopened, is not a bad idea. Deconstructing empty blue chests as you go will gain you iron & result in less confusion as you explore; deconstructing 'hidden' (golden) chests will gain you other useful resources
I leave my shelters where they are. The material cost is trivial, so no reason to load down my limited inventory with essentially "useless" (at my main base) materials. I also suggest not opening every single chest you see right away. I got into a bit of trouble in my last playthrough because I did that and got unlucky with Mushroom seeds in the crashed ships which created a massive bottleneck. They're far more likely to appear in chests once you reach the water stage (I think) but I had opened most of them before then.
@@MTGeomancer Excellent point to make. The blue chests that aren't near the start location will upgrade their contents based on the terraforming stage. The golden chests and 'starter' blue chests will not.
Fun fact: The turbines stopping their spinning is not as unrealistic as it might seem. If you don't use any batteries nor turbine controllers, just pure connection from turbine to load then as load rises, resistance of the turbine coil will also rise eventually causing the turbine to either stop spinning or burn the coil (depending on wind strength). One of the goals of the controller is to ensure that will never happen (burned coil = expensive repairs) by limiting the load on each turbine and disconnecting the load if necessary.
@@mordororc3082 Well, I seldom re-play games, myself. There are just so many other games to play. But I played this game for awhile when it was in early access, single-player. Sometime later, the full version was released, and I played it all the way to the end with my little sister (who is 71 and had never played a video game in her life before a year ago). It was lots of fun - even more fun co-op than as single-player, I'd say. But at that point, I'd had enough - for awhile, at least. My sister, however, immediately started a single-player play of the game. (Indeed, she didn't want to stop playing our co-op game. She just wanted to live on the planet permanently, I guess. Heh, heh.) Technically, there are three different endings. But in reality, they're all the same. Maybe they'll do a sequel to show us what happens next? I don't know. But for me, it's probably not going to be a game I play again, not unless I find another newbie I want to introduce to games. :)
Quill playing Planet Crafter? I'm in! Edit: When building things in your base, hold in Ctrl to snap things easily, build multiple copies (as resources allow, of course), and turn things 90 degrees instead of gradually.
I love this game. It’s such a change to just enjoy yourself building and creating without worrying about being shot dead constantly. Just got to stay alive long enough to make your world. Brilliant!
This game is super addictive for a while because there is always something to do. I found near the end it gets kind of dull as you run out of clear ways to make large advancements, but it takes a while to reach that point. But the hidden stories and unlocking the history of the planet are so much fun to find.
This game is so lovely, I really had a blast playing through it myself recently. There's a lot to discover in this game so the only tip I will leave will be to not build your permanent base next to the lifepod, you want some elevation. Trust me on this one :)
2:30 - _"this is not very green. you throw away the bottles."_ ... no, you make the oxygen or water by using only ice or other resources and not explicitly using bottles (maybe they are deflatable and thus invisible on the game screen?), and thus the empty bottles are also taken away from your inventory automatically to restock that hidden supply :-) of course, the game could make everything much more complicated (and annoying) by requesting you to make the bottles first, using more resources, and then block inventory slots with the empty bottles or cause lag from dropping them in the landscape.
Nice seeing you play this, looking forward to the series, and yes, even in the demo I noticed how quickly you can die. Can we have a Quill Death counter? Also: there are no enemies, so all deaths are selfinflicted. as a lil hint: maybe settle some place higher than the current base. mit might get moisture in the basement.
Yes. The default spawn is in an ancient lakebed. It quickly becomes not ancient anymore as you introduce water into the environment. High ground is wise. :)
This really DOESN'T fall into the Survival genre ... yes, there's oxygen, water, and food, but you pretty quickly have an almost infinite supply of each. In fact, this game is an Explorer: major bits of advancement are locked behind exploring the map to unlock new tech and resources. There IS a factory / logistics aspect of the game, but the primary gameplay loop is Exploration.
Imho, oxygen is the easiest of the three, unlimited by building temporary shelters, breathing, and deconstructing the shelter. As long as there is ice available, water also is no real problem and from the midgame onwards there are other more direct sources of water, while food (=health) may become a problem in the early game when you are not lucky enough to find enough space food during exploration, before you are advanced enough (look at the ingame screen that shows when you can get which new machines, and what stats you should do first to enable them, and where you also can research the blue chips) to build food growers. (btw: veggies/vege stands for VEGEtation and NOT for VEGEtable !!!) Also : oxygen and water capsules refill the stat bars to 100% (you may want to use them as late as possible to not waste anything), while food refills only a percntage (that is shown in the popup help for each one) so that you may want to use it not too early and not too late, with the lesser ones (also) needed for crafting, and the best ones not for crafting but only for food.
I'm so pleased to see you play this game. It has good depth to it requiring a little concentration. I've only seen it as far as the development of lakes so far, but that play-through already looks amazing and continues to progress. You need good organisational skills, otherwise, people tend to bitch it's too complicated. I get the impression many modern players like to be spoon-fed. A pet hate of mine, which is why I like watching intelligent players. You will excel. Although your usual video length is going to be rather short for this, maybe? 😅
@@tranquillitydysfunction8142 and if you want there are really quality of life mods, that let you do things like build using materials from nearby containers.

Hi Martin! I love the idea that the protagonist is muttering quill's inane commentary out loud to themselves. Really builds that "lonely psychotic" vibe.
Quill is so tunneled on the idea that aluminum is only found in chests that he literally hovered over one on the ground during his search but still missed it 🤦 Also you have the effectiveness of the seeds backwards, you are using your 150% seeds rather than your 200% seeds
Can't even get under way in the demo: initial build list: a heater. No iridium anywhere that I can see. 3 attempted maps to get underway... pain in the arse. None found. 3rd map was desperately short of iron, too. Found a blueprint for ~something boots. Decoded. How, where to build? ??? It looks really promising, the kind of game I love, but there's not enough direction on how to use commands, and is it RNG materials generation? Don't think I'll wishlist it under the circumstances. Particularly since I already have No Man's Sky -- was hoping this would be a somewhat less stressful game. Oh well.
Don't build your base there. It will flood. There is an arch on the high ground that leads to a high plateau, with lots of interesting places to explore

I agree. There's a real feeling of accomplishment when you see the planet change. (And it's especially fun as a co-op game, I'd say.)
Is it repayable?

Half-panicky Quill is kind of adorable.
I believe you can build additional rooms in your base from the inside. Just target the wall you want the expansion module attached to.
you can indeed do that.

Part of the fun is learning that though. Nothing like coming back from an exploration trip and going "where did this lake come from? Wait a minute..."

I’m liking this. Been a minute since I jumped in on a let’s play so looking forward to starting one again.
I haven't played many of these base building survival games but I really like the look of this one
Adore this game - looking forward to see how far you go with it! (I'm at quite a bit in and the planet feels so different the longer you play).
Can't wait to see the rest of the series!
This was a fun game. I went looking for a playthrough from you when I first played thinking it was up your alley.
Glad to see you got back to this!
