The first season of The Mandalorian has just finished and what will we do with no Baby Yoda for a year? Well, I found something to occupy a little bit of that time; 3d printing my very own Mandalorian Helmet! I started with fantastic files from Sean Fields of Project 842. His version 4 files are just amazing! I'll take you through the process of printing, sanding, primering, and finishing a helmet of your own. You'll need it when you have The Child to protect!

amazing! great job
I just want to know where its snowing in Chicago, i miss the snow ngl. This helmet looks amazing! Sanding was worth it
Snow was last week and it's gone now. Though we're looking to get hit again with about 8-10" starting tomorrow. Glad you like the results and thanks for the feedback and for watching!
You just gave me HOPE!!! I have the Longer LK1 printer and have started my Mandalorian helmet. I set it to Raft and touching build plate. I have the same issue where I will have a support in the middle of the visor to the top but nothing on the left and right side. I am freaking out that the eye opening area will collapse.
It will make it with no support in the visor area if the helmet is oriented the same way that it's worn. However, you'll have some fixing to do on it for sure. Get some supports in the eyes and you'll be much happier with the final results.
I'm currently 3d printing a Deathwatch helmet
Dude. I totally bought that STL today after seeing this on FB. I am totally looking forward to attempting this! Subbed!
Awesome! Have fun making yours and thanks for the sub!
@@9142PropsandArmory So for the areas above visor that you had to repair and build up, was that just a matter of adding layers of CA glue and sanding/shaping as you go?
@@Geeksmithing You've got it! Cut it out of the video, it's long enough already.
@@9142PropsandArmory haha, I understand that more than you know! 😁

I heard it and instantly came to this comment
Hi I was wondering if you can share what settings you use on your CR-10 printer, temp, thickness, heat bed, nozzle temp etc for this printing? Thanks
Well it’s pla so 180C - 210C depends on what fill I meant you use hot bed temp about 60C for pla you should know this tho lol and thickness use normal setting so probably like 2 to 3mm thick walls
Looks awesome! My helmet just finished and did the exact same thing in the eye holes as yours due to no supports as well. What did you do exactly to build up that area and make it better?
Hello great build the visor link says green ,I was wondering cuz you said smoke it does look black right?
The dark green or the smoke will work. Either would be good for your build. My final lens will be the dark green on mine. Both will look the same on the helmet.
This is the way
Do you put a protective coat on it after?
Hey how much would you recommend if I was making the whole armor with that paint? and what paint did you use for the black coat?
I used one full bottle for the helmet. I would guess that you'd probably need 6 or 7 for the whole thing. That should get ya there I would think. For the black I just used a cheap gloss black that goes for $2 a can at Walmart because I know it plays well with Alclad. Hope that helps! Good luck on your build!
9142 Props and Armory what was the black gloss paint you used called like the exact brand and stuff
Great work. I done one for my yoda lol
You did?!? That's fantastic!
@@9142PropsandArmory yes I've done a full mado armour for mine. All fun. Loved your yoda . Great work sir
@@3dpropstudios Did you post it in the Baby Yoda Builders group on Facebook? I saw one there a few days ago.
@@9142PropsandArmory yes m8 I did . Just giving people some ideas. The builds on that page people have done have been amazing.
Did you apply clear coat after using the Alclad? Wondering if I should use Alclad's Klear Kote to seal the paint job for more durability for cosplay? Thoughts?
I did not seal mine yet. I will probably order the Alumaluster paint for it down the road. If you're going to wear anything painted with Alclad, I would highly recommend sealing it with one of their clear coats though. You'll want the durability for sure.
@@9142PropsandArmory I just looked at the price. Yikes! Are you still happy with the Alclad color you used? I compared it while watching an episode and I think it looks good. I will be painting an entire printed armor set, so I am a little nervous. Thanks again.
Would I be able to print this on the Ender 3 Pro? I'm not sure of the bed size difference between the CR10 and Ender 3...just curious if you knew. Looks frickin AWESOME! Subscribed!
Hey Ken you could print it on the Ender series. You would have to slice the helmet into a couple of pieces though. No big deal to do that. They are good machines, reliable and give good results. Thanks for watching and for the sub!
what was the color of the filament?
That looks great mate! Around 3 shells thick?
Thank you! It has two shells with a .6 nozzle.
What gloss black paint did you end up using?
What is your hat size and what was the dimensions of the helmet? Want to make sure the scaling is appropriate
Nice work! But I'm more of a DeloreanMan rather than a Mandelorian. Got any BTTF projects you are working on?
I do not at the moment. But I like what you're thinking. Ha ha.
Hi, great result!!, it was printed in one piece?
It was printed on one piece except for the ear pieces and rear vents which were printed on a resin printer.
can you share the stl files?
SWEEEET
It's shiny! Love your Alclad tips man!
What printer did you use?
What did you use to fix the visor? where there was fraying and it wasnt even
I’m wondering same thing
awesome work. wish those jawns were available to buy 😔
You wish what were available to buy?
@@9142PropsandArmory jawns means the item in question, just in case you hadn’t figured out by now
How much did it cost printing?
anyone here please. can anyone point me in the right direction of how to "slice" the file (if thats the correct term) to be able to print this on an ender 3, I just purchased the creality ender 3 (all I can afford) and would like to print this helmet but I know it wont fit on the 200mm print bed. (I think it's a 200mm bed anyway lol)
Hi! does it need support for the roof of the helmet? or I can get away with just printing it with no support except for the visor part. thank you.
No support needed for the dome at all. Just the eyes and the lower edge closest to the plate and you're golden!
Wow thank you for the speedy reply. Gonna try and print it during the weekend.
Good luck with the print!
What did you use for the paint color? The color looks spot on!
Hey there and thanks! The paint I used was Alclad Airframe Aluminum. There's a link to it in the description. The actual paint used for production is called Alumaluster and it goes for $400 a quart. I should get a group buy together and order some. Ha ha 😂
@@9142PropsandArmory So youd need an airbrush? I dont have one yet so im trying to figure out how to make the same look haha
@@PestVic Yes, for the alclad you definitely do. For the more expensive paint, it'd be best applied with a spray gun. Look into getting an airbrush. It will help immensely with finishing the props and costume parts that you make. I have a review of the kit that I use on the channel. It's very affordable too.
Ok I have been asking a few people this, but what's the material you use for the visor?
Take a look in the video description. There are links to materials used. There is a link for the grinding shield replacements used.
Did u print it upside down?
it says the item is unavailable
Hi how many spools did u use on helmet
It was a full spool....give or take just a bit. The amount of supports you use really determines how much past a full spool.
Does he have his STL file elsewhere now? The Etsy link is dead. Great looking helmet!
He's working on a new version now. So he pulled it for the time being. Should be updated soon.
@@9142PropsandArmory Okay awesome! Thanks for the quick response! Looking forward to it since I just got my CR10S set up.
Nice! In the meanwhile just get it good and tuned up and you'll be ready to go when it's time.
what 3d printer was used to make this?
Helmet was printed on a standard Creality CR-10. The ears and rear vents on an Anycubic Photon.
same issues with supports on mine as well.
Oh no, which issues? Not enough support for the visor cutout, or it's coming off of the supports?
9142 Props and Armory too steep an overhang angle so not enough support on the visor top. Though managed to get it fixed with some filler. Just took a bit longer.
@sonic what filler did you use, I’m having same issue
@@dmcrozay 4 coats of filler primer before sanding then a bit of wood filler for any nasty spots. f
do you think i could print this with an ender 3
You sure could, you'd just have to cut the file into a few pieces to fit it on the bed.
How long did it take to print on the cr10?
Right around 65 hours or so if I remember correctly
The link to the helmet doesn't work. Do you have another one?
He's currently working on a new, and even better Mando file and will post it when it's completed. Sean's a very busy guy, it will be worth the wait I'm quite sure.
Great video..... love it. For my taste, drop the music..... thanks
how long does it take to print?
About 2 days, give it take a few hours.
Man, what black paint did you use?
Hayden, I'm embarrassed to say I used the $2 touch and tone gloss black from Walmart! Lol.
9142 Props and Armory no shame in that😂 looks like it worked pretty good
I used it mostly since I've had good luck with it not reacting with the Alclad.
How do you get the visor for the helmet??
A grinding shield replacement is what I used. Smoke colored works, and so does the green.
@@9142PropsandArmory Also what is the size of the helmet
Fits avg sized head. Mine is enormous so I had to scale up 7% or so.
Where can I buy a helmet already printed but not finished with visor I’m looking to paint my own mando helmet but I don’t have a 3D printer or know anyone with one
I may start offering some printed helmets soon. Since I've added a few more printers in the past two months it's a little more doable now.
@@9142PropsandArmory let me know if you are offering painted helmets please. Would love to get one for my son’s Christmas. Also, do you have, ”the Armorer”? Thanks
how much did it cost you overall?
$10 in filament and $15 in paint and supplies. Not much at all. It's mostly just time!
The links for the models don’t work
where’s the link? it’s not working!!!
how many rolls of filament did you use for this build ??
Hey Mike! The helmet took just under a roll to print.
@@9142PropsandArmory awesome how many hours did it take and did you use alot of support? I'm looking at a print on thingiverse and it says it'll take about 90 hours without support and 150 hours with support
Took just over 3 days with supports only on the lowest edge of the bucket.
@@9142PropsandArmory where'd you get the file from and will it fit an adult head average size ?
Mine was printed from files from Project 842 on Etsy. Sean is currently working a newer and better version which will be out as time allows. Also, look at Rob Pauza's model which fantastic as well. One final great one is from The Broken Nerd, Daryl did a really nice model as well.
Do i need just 1 spool of 1kg?
Yep, that should cover you as long as you don't add a ton of supports.
@@9142PropsandArmory Thank you for the fast answer, i bought today a 3d printer and i just dont know how many spools i need, for the full armor.
Full Beskar no jet pack? Around 4-5. Probably another two or so with a jet pack. Good luck on your build!
@@9142PropsandArmory thank you
file is gone :(
It will be back soon. He's working on an even better version.
Is it for sale?
Files are for sale on Etsy to print your own. Link in the description. I'm not selling completed helmets at this time though. Thanks for inquiring!
@@9142PropsandArmory thanks for the reply though! I'm subscribing just for that! It's a shame cuz i don't have a 3D printer and no knowledge on the subject, like even if i went to a store who 3d prints Im not sure what to ask for etc... thank you again, if you change your mind i'll be here! :) have a great afternoon, peace and love from greece!
everybody keeps casually printing very nice helmets without supports and mine fails every time when the top starts to reach 55 degrees or so.. what the heck i am doing wrong?
Is probably just your printer turn on support in setting and pull them out when the print has finished
Are you from chicago? If so am I, I would love for you to teach me how to make helmets
No link to file?
Hey Wulfy TV....there sure is. There's a link in the description to the Etsy shop for Project 842. There you can purchase the files. Happy printing!
8 dollar paint 32 pound shipping to the uk think ill pass
I'd have to agree with that shipping cost!
My 3D printer is to freaking small for this
Nah, it's not. Get yourself a program to slice the file into multiple parts. Look at Luban,it's easy to use.
Freitag der 13 you can even split it on tinkercad. No download and free
Definitely! Tinkercad can handle it, it just might take a bit to open the file. Great call!
The print lines make the helmet look bad
Thanks, pretty sure that I've got what you were trying to say. It's merely something that's going on the shelf in the shop. Thanks for warching!
This is the way
Indeed it is!
