It would've been amazing if he sang as shere Khan in Jungle Book 2, I think we would've gotten a song that would've essentially been Be Prepared + Hellfire and that would've been Heavenly hellish.
1: George Sanders 2: Benedict Cumberbatch 3: Tony Jay 4: Idris Elba 5: Bill Lee 6: Roddy McDowall 7: Jim Cummings 8: Sherman Howard 9: Jason Marsden 10: Scott McNeil 11: Thurl Ravenscroft 12: David Holt 13: Michael Donovan 14: Jean Fontaine 15: Tim Simmons
George Sanders had the regality of Shere Khan. Idris Elba had the ferocity of Shere Khan. Tony Jay had the cunning of Shere Khan. Somewhere in the middle of all of that, is the perfect Shere Khan from the book.
Shout out to Bill Lee for that excellent singing part. When I think of Sher Khan I often remember that particular part where he interrupts the buzzards song with his own singing voice.
George Sanders, Tony Jay, Idris Elba and Benedict Cumberbatch are my favourite voices. Jason Marsden even though it’s his Nermal voice he did good as his child form
Tony Jay is definitely going for a George Sanders impression, so it makes sense that the comments are rating them similarly. And the "foppish yet dangerous" vibe is quite interesting. But I really liked Cumberbatch's performance. It felt like Shere Khan was constantly seething with rage, especially with the way that his voice changes into a snarl for certain vowel sounds. To me, that seems far more overtly dangerous.
To be completely honest- my very favorite voices of Shere Khan are George Sanders, Thurl Ravenscroft, Bill Lee, Roddy McDowall, Jason Marsden, Sherman Howard and Benedict Cumberbatch.
George Sanders will always be my favorite. He has a certain quality in his rendition that most Shere Khan’s do not have. That sense of complete control. He clearly hates man, but he is so good at hiding it, until the opportunity to lash out finally occurs. Tony Jay did an amazing job at capturing some of that same quiet yet intimidating ferocity. Both Benedict Cumberbatch and Idris Elba bring out different shades of the character that must be appreciated. These four actors capture the combined spirit of the fear-inspiring tiger. The others pale by comparison. Sherman Howard and Jim Cummings do make a passing grade, but just barely. Although I very much like Roddy McDowall as an actor, his rendition is probably among the worst. Bill Lee gets an honorable mention because he was the singing voice of George Sanders’ Shere Khan, and so should be counted with Sanders.
@@DogOfHades Ah, yes. Clearly the only reason he said Benedict Cumberbatch is because he knows who he is; and not based off of his performance or a personal preference. You're a fucking dick.
George Sanders, Tony Jay, Benedict Cumberbatch.. The first two are regal villains. Cumberbatch manages to suggest deep seated pain behind Shere Khan's rage. He's a maimed tiger, a man-eater by necessity, as in the book. Sort of Shakespeare's version of Richard III in tiger form,
I think Sherman Howard gives an underrated vocal performance as Shere Khan. He nails George Sanders' deadpan humor, while also adding his own menace to the role.
You missed one. Candy Candido. He provided the roars in the original 1967 film. He also did Bagheera's roars as well and has been in a number of other Disney projects including: Peter Pan, Robin Hood and The Great Mouse Detective.

George Sanders is the unmatchable classic in the role and I wouldn't be surprised if a recollection of his "Shere Khan" had helped inspire the decision over 40 years later to ask Benedict Cumberbatch to voice "Smaug" in Jackson's "The Hobbit" trilogy.
George Sanders and Tony Jay: polite and suave, yet still intimidating. Idris Elba: Imposing crime boss. Benedict Cumberbatch: Nightmarish demon from hell.
George Sanders (RIP) & Tony Jay(RIP) were the best voices for the villian tiger Shere Khan... For that singing the best voices were Bill Lee(RIP) & Thurl Ravescroft (RIP)
Shere khan from the Mowgli is so scary it is scariest version of him. Benedict Cumberbatch in original english and Jackie Shroff in my native hindi make him sound like a villian
For me, what's notable isn't just the voice, but the *direction*. Most of them sound hammy to me. George Sanders, Tony Jay, Idris Elba, Benedict Cumberbatch. All carrying varying degrees of the right stuff: eloquence, authority and menace.
Gotta be Tony Jay for me. His voice was among the first unique voices I heard when I was little upon watching Jungle Book 2 and it's stuck by me since!
1. George Sanders (The Jungle Book {1967}). 2. Roddy McDowall (Mowgli’s Brothers). 3. Jean Fontaine (The Jungle Book {1989}). 4. Jason Marsden (Jungle Cubs). 5. Scott McNeil (Adventures of Mowgli) 6. Shere khan voice actors From the original Disney film Geogre Sanders to the Netflix original movie with Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor strange/the 2018 Grinch himself)
George Sanders and Tony Jay. They have a voice that sounds so sinister. Like they'd cut you just to watch you bleed. Everyone else is trying too hard. Cumberbatch came in 3rd.
The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT. John 3:18 KJV He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Idris Elba as Shere Khan: Does my face not remind you of what a grown man can do? You see your hunting ground for a few years and everyone forgets how the law works. Well, let me remind you a man-cub becomes man and man is forbidden. Oh, I'm deeply respectful of these laws to keep us safe, so here's my promise, nothing lasts forever.
George Sanders is perfect...his voice carries a certain formality that is both calming and threatening at the same time.
Well said!
Indeed.
Thats because he sounded BRITISH, like those Victorian era generals.
#DYK He played Mr. Freeze in the Adam West *Batman* TV series?
That's because it's Received Pronunciation, or "RP" English. You basically associate it with every cool Englishman.
George Sanders and Tony Jay are way better than the rest.
How right you are friend
Nah, George sanders doesn't sound intimidating at all.
idris elba was the best
Bruh Benedict Cumberbatch was also better in my opinion

Something uppity about George Sanders voicing in a good way… the character needed that imo
Tony Jays is so simple but incredibly intimidating. By far the best acting
Tony Jay is amazing but I just think of Frollo
@@sonofaballer96I think of the Elder God in Legacy of Kain.
Same
may god rest his soul
George Sanders. There's a reason he was cast in the original role. Tony Jay is close. Anything else is silly-talk.
Geogre Sanders and Tony Jay are my favourites but the way David Holt says Mowlgli is comedy gold
4:55 R.I.P. Tony Jay (1933-2006) Voice of Judge Frollo from Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame an amazing and chilling performance singing Hellfire
It would've been amazing if he sang as shere Khan in Jungle Book 2, I think we would've gotten a song that would've essentially been Be Prepared + Hellfire and that would've been Heavenly hellish.

George Sanders and Tony Jay= perfection 🐯
Just heard Benedict Cumberbatch playing Shere Khan. That man is good. I think he could have pulled off Scar in the live action Lion King.
Same.
yeah it should have been him
He really REALLY should have done Scar. Plus, Cumberbatch can sing.
Nope, Jeremy irons will always be the best
Cumberbatch's Shere Khan was terrifying. Like some serial killer or cult leader.
George Sanders had the regality of Shere Khan.
Idris Elba had the ferocity of Shere Khan.
Tony Jay had the cunning of Shere Khan.
Somewhere in the middle of all of that, is the perfect Shere Khan from the book.
Benedict Cumberbatch had the bloodlust of Shere Khan.
Shout out to Bill Lee for that excellent singing part. When I think of Sher Khan I often remember that particular part where he interrupts the buzzards song with his own singing voice.

Jason Marsden even though it’s his Nermal voice he did good as his child form
Tony Jay- Benedict Cumberbatch- Idris Elba love them all, it's hard to choose from these 3❤️❤️❤️
George sanders,my childhood ❤
I'd like it if Tim Curry voiced him
Tony Jay is definitely going for a George Sanders impression, so it makes sense that the comments are rating them similarly. And the "foppish yet dangerous" vibe is quite interesting.

Tony Jay and George Sanders sound similar and I love them both, but Tony Jay edges it out as my favorite.
To be completely honest- my very favorite voices of Shere Khan are George Sanders, Thurl Ravenscroft, Bill Lee, Roddy McDowall, Jason Marsden, Sherman Howard and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Everyone mentioned here contributed to this character with great charisma but George Sanders is really unbeatable here! He has such a regal voice! ❤❤❤

Scott McNeil is doing Megatron, Waspinater and Dinobot all at once.
It's actually quite similiar to his Gali.
Corey Burton to voice Shere Khan in Disney numerous projects
Benedict Cumberbatch
I agree
Because you know who he is? George S and Tony Jay were the best

Ah, yes. Clearly the only reason he said Benedict Cumberbatch is because he knows who he is; and not based off of his performance or a personal preference.

Idris Elba is awesome.
Heimdall got nothing on Smaug

George Sanders, Tony Jay, Idris Elba, Benedict Cumberbatch. All carrying varying degrees of the right stuff: eloquence, authority and menace.
Benedict Cumberbatch is the best. His blood thirsty voice, and menacing presence were amazing!

I think Boris would've been worse. But I'm also biased. 🤷♀️
George Sanders and Tony Jay are in a league of their own, the rest don't even come close.

Idris Elba! cause his voice is so gruff which is exactly what a real tiger vocal sounds like
