I think that was one of the best and most articulate demonstrations on gtr comparisons I've seen. I salute you in South Wales sir! And Player Plus all the way.
Own both, Both sound fantastic. The trade-off is in the loss of dynamics and added "compression" to the frequency range of the noiseless pups. If you want a real Stratocaster experience, look no further than the Player series. It checks all of the boxes and sounds great. I still suggest upgrading to locking tuners on that model though, it cures so many tuning issues especially using the trem bar. If playing live with a lot of effects and overdrive adds tons of noise - the noiseless PP is a fair compromise, on top of the hardware upgrades.
I've just bought the player strat, which i love, now saving for the plus. I've had Mexican Fenders before and they were always several steps lower than the USA Fender's i've owned. The new player series appears to be effing awesome.
I didn’t think I’d like the noiseless pups and was going to upgrade my Olympic Pearl SSS to an HSS but I actually like the noiseless pups. I expected them to bother me but I actually like them
I have both guitars in HSS configuration. Maybe in a video it is hard to distinguish, but the player plus is by far brighter than the player, which particularly for me is annoying, and I prefer the player series. But in terms of playability, the player plus is more comfortable and easy to play. Another thing, the noiseless have more output gain, around 10k, while the player has around 7k. The player has more of a modern sound, like TexMex, and the player plus has more of vintage bright sound.
I work at Music and Arts. We recieved a Player Plus Strat with no tremolo bar, no bridge spring, sprouted frets and gouges in the back. We have no choice but to discount it. Huge, huge fail.
4 minutes in and imo the player plus is brighter more strat sounding than the player by alot. i dont no where people are getting the idea that the noiseless are lacking the traditional strat tone i dont hear that if anything the player sounds lacking but thats just me saying it.all in all they are both great guitars and both sound like strats and i think its because they are strats. I think us guitar players are nuts! we worry too much about tiny little things that other people listening to us play would not know what we are even hearing or talking about.btw great review!
Great playing!! how do you do to make the noiseless pups sounding so great...is it the heigh of the pick ups?...HI mate, I bought a Nashville Player plus 6 months ago.....I still having issues with the sound of the noiseles pups, they dont have the Dynamics of the Alnico 5,.... they are clearer....but the sound is more like a humbucker tone/dynamics/range....there is a lack of bass and highs compared to the player single coils.... Im planning to get a tex-mex tele pickups and install on my nashville and keep it the noiseless pup in the middle position.... the best of the two worlds?.....
I would buy a player series and spend the extra money it would cost on a player plus to buy locking tuners and have my choice of a loaded american pickguard, that way i could choose the pups i liked the most which would be vintage noisless for me!
Unbiased?..."but, if you want to play a traffic cone" ;)) the difference I can hear is a more full bodied / colourful and dynamic rendition, makes the standard Player sound a little dull. I wouldn't change my Traffic cone for the "flaming" traffic cone anyhow , because I need to learn how to play first :)
Noisless PP could be a better choice for live with multiple effects and distorts but not for clean and bluesy style playing! Noisless PP is not always a good choice most specifically for recordings. After all the player sounds warmer and more bluesy to me which is better for what I do!
to my untutored ears the player plus sounds a little more even across the strings, with a bit more middle to work with. makes me wonder if the player just felt more comfortable with the player plus neck than the player neck (I hope that sentence makes sense in context).
Player plus I find in some areas a bit to treble orange 🍊 always orange bass where it needs to and treble where it need to be always orange fender strat.
I've had my player series guitars (strat and tele) for over a year now and if I won the euro millions tomorrow I wouldn't upgrade them. The big money would be going to uncle Paul. 😀 IMHO the player plus hardware upgrades aren't worth the money and I'm pretty certain I wouldn't like the 12 in radius.
@@eurly93 I'm going to assume we're both right, and that it was the specific guitars we played or our tastes (or amps or a number of other factors) that account for the difference of opinion. Peace.
HI mate, I bought a Nashville Player plus 6 months ago.....I still having issues with the sound of the noiseles pups, they dont have the Dynamics of the Alnico 5,.... they are clearer....but the sound is more like a humbucker tone/dynamics/range....there is a lack of bass and highs compared to the player single coils.... Im planning to get a tex-mex tele pickups and install on my nashville and keep it the noiseless pup in the middle position.... the best of the two worlds?.....
lol @ the guitar stuck in the cab. Anyway, to the point - the player sounds absolutely cheap and dull compared to the plus which seems to have more of a twang in the highs and not so depressing lows. The plus is smoother and warmer and the general quality of the sound is - i'd say - twice that of the player. Sounds aside, the ultra does have extra upgrades(?) such as noiseless pickups, locking tuning system and push/pull pods for more pickup variety. In my opinion, the extra £200 is certainly worth it for the plus. However, if noiseless pickups aren't your thing, cannot afford the extra 200 and couldn't give a damn about the tuner locking system then the player is for you. Just note that the change of the noiseless pickups and the rewiring for the pods, alone, would be around 200. For the tuning lock system would be a further 200.
Actually it is strange that his Player sounds so poor here. I own one and love, it has significantly more percussive and open tone than he has here. I even have an impression that he (probably unintentionally) plays Plus with faster and more powerful attack. I have several sound examples of my Player on my channel, if you write "Fender Player" into search in my channel it should show. To my mind my Player sounds great. But here yes, Plus wins hands down! Sad I bought Player before Plus appeared!
Player Plus feature set is amazing but those pickups are terribly balanced: all treble. And it's not beautiful bell-like treble either, it's an ice pick to the face. I'd love to get one, the 12" board, colours, and modern features really appeal. But no way am I spending that much on a Mexican strat just to immediately swap out the pups.
I find they sound good one these videos but I have to wonder what they are doing to cut back the noise, sounds like they would have less output or something and the player series ones are already awesome. Have you played a plus in real life at all? I was thinking of buying one but I fear the pickups are an issue
I have the plus in Olympic Pearl and it sounds like it looks. Yes… just beautiful! I’m using a 3w Roland Micro Cube GX and I’m waiting on my new Yamaha THR10ii
Player gets way too much hate. They’re very very good bang for buck guitars, but somehow people have decided they’re just squire CV’s with higher price tags and it’s just not true at all. They cost a little more, and for that money they feel better in the hand really - much better necks, smidge higher build quality (CV’s are already so good) and usually less heavy. Going up to player plus, again the necks are the main thing. Locking tuners are nice… but also a cheap upgrade you can do yourself. Personally I like the player plus with a set of custom shop pickups thrown in and the noiseless thrown out, but that’s just me.
I think Capri Orange looks great, much better then the usual same old colors!! ✌️
I think that was one of the best and most articulate demonstrations on gtr comparisons I've seen. I salute you in South Wales sir! And Player Plus all the way.
Call me crazy but the noiseless sounded better. I was wearing noise canceling headphones.
same here! Significantly better!
Why would anyone call you crazy? The difference was big, the plus sounds better obviously.

@@pipkins1972 Yep. The current Player Series is much better than all of the older Mexican Strats from 10-20 yrs ago.
I like the orange, it's better than boring black.

I own the same guitar and thought I’d do the same, but that mod is on hold for the moment.
Fender Player is enough! Have it in blonde colour, wow, what a instrument! Its so solid!
I have a player telecaster and it is awesome, still really traditional sounding but the pickups are hot, sounds very good

On a side note. This channel has some of the best reviews out there

Both sound good- Fender needs Jumbo frets
When you play arpeggio or just chords the plus has better sound quality for sure
Is the orangs a Strat mini?
You can definitely hear the difference on position 4, but I will say, you should try it out at a store before making the purchase.
Cool vid and subbed. Loved how the cheaper Player sounds better but you just couldn't bring yourself to admit it 😉
Player plus for me

Plus sounds better. Plus has really clear sound and the guitar is almost profesional.
I’ve played both, hoping to love the Plus, but it was really sterile compared to the Player.
Nope. Player sounds thin and harsh vs player plus sounds round and warm

Player plus dont sound Strat like. Obviously the radius flatter, not classic, affects

90-95% of the sound comes from the speaker, not the pickup.
While the flatter radius interests me, I'd rather take a good player series and put a rail in the bridge.
