    Great tip. I tried this and there were at least 20 in each pot. You are kinder than I am, my garden is relatively small so I just drown them.

      Thanks for watching 🙂 It is amazing the number you can collect in the pots. I hope it helps your dahlias. Probably safest in a small garden to get ready rid of the earwigs so they don’t return to the plants. Mine are late to come on this year due to the weather but hoping by the end of July we will have some good dahlias in bloom.

    Great tip!!! The earwigs caused so much damage to my beautiful dahlias last season. Thank you so much!!

      Thanks for watching! It really does work, it’s just staying on top of emptying out the pots in the morning! But you will always find some hiding in there. Now I just need to work out how to keep white dahlias looking good without thrip damage. Dahlias are so beautiful if they aren’t damaged by pests x

    My dear, these little demons devoured ALL my beautiful dahlias last season. I am not discourage this year but I am definitely doing this and after drowning them all. Don't want to give earwigs the chance to go back to my wonderful flowers. You are absolutely lovely. Thank you so much.

      Oh no they really are destructive! But all your dahlias 😢 what a shame. For me the pots of straw work really well for gathering them all up and getting them out the flower patch but if all else fails organza bags work a treat, just not so pretty to look at if you want to enjoy the dahlias to look at in your garden but fine for me as a flower farmer.

      Glad it could help! I definitely have plenty earwigs this year so the pots are so good for keeping on top of them. Just need to remember to check them regularly!

    Great tip ! You must’ve heard my discouragement seeing my first time grown from tubers dahlias being chewed up!

    • @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
      @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm  3 года назад

      It is very disheartening seeing lots of chewed petals and leaves but hopefully you can control the earwigs now. Slugs is the other problem with dahlias unfortunately. But when they are not chewed dahlias are gorgeous!!

    Catherine, it's not earwigs I have a problem with, its ants! They're all over my dahlias. I probably planted them over an ants nest lol. Very informative video, thankyou 😀

      Oh no ants that is a different one I haven’t had to deal with. Have you come across any ideas about what to do about them?!

      @@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm I've been informed that table salt or cinnamon around the base of the plant will deter them. I'll give it a go.

    • @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm

      Hi, thanks for watching. The earwigs were put by the girls in an area of the garden far away from the flower patches so I don’t think they would have migrated back.

    Wont the Earwigs fly straight back onto the Dahlias???

    • @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
      @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm  2 года назад

      Hi, thanks for watching. Although earwigs have wings they are reluctant to fly and rarely do so by putting the earwigs in a remote part of the garden well away from the dahlias hopefully they wouldn’t return.

      @@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm thanks for replying, now my friend is having trouble with her dahlias and she says its Slugs?? as she has slimey trails on them, any ideas how to get rid of them without using chemicals thanks.

    • @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
      @cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm  2 года назад +1

      @@vallee3140 definitely sounds like slugs. There are so many different ideas out there about what to do about slugs. What has worked best for me over the years is going out with a torch at night and picking up as many slugs as I can when they are out munching and beer traps. It is difficult though. For me planting up dahlia tubers in pots in spring and growing them on into big sturdy plants before I put them out in the beds really helps them be more resilient to slug damage.
