The godox reflector has a hole in it to pass the umbrella through! That is the proper reflector. Mine came with an off brand reflector that had the umbrella hole, but it was in the wrong position. And yes I do know that the reflector can mount in 3 positions.
I've got a couple of MS300s. Such great value. FYI the Godox reflector has a popout tab in the side which makes a hole to push the umbrella pole through for easier fitting.

Those Godox MS300’s are darned good basic studio strobes, if you can do without TTL and HSS.
@@GavinHoey The hard part, I find, is teaching your camera to sing "I Wear My Sunglasses At Night" when you slap an ND filter on it. I don't know about yours, but mine keeps messing up the lyrics and gets a bit pitchy.
Greetings to the Hoeys .. from Montreal, Canada .. I do have the Godox MS300 ( 7 of them ). I use them in my makeshift photo studio at home. I am very happy with these mono-lights ! I enjoy your tutorials.

Hi Gavin. I teach high school photography using the Godox MS300s and the minimum flash power of 1/32 is a bit of an issue. For the price, however, they have been great for the brief time they have been in use.
@@markloyd5082 First, well done for doing what you do. I wish I had someone teach me lighting back in the day! I never thought the low power end would be as important as it is until I couldn't access it. As you say, for the price, it's still awesome.
I love godox gear. i have a QT2-400mk2 and a V1 and a couple of umbrellas. i love the comparison. keep up the good stuff. By the way. I think the godox reflector of a studio strobe has an umbrella hole in it to make it centered. At least on my godox qt2. But maybe the budget strobes do not have this? I am not sure.
Do you have a pattern or somewhere I can give a little something to show my appreciation I have been freeloading on your channel for a while you have help my photography come a long way with your simple and humorous way of teaching
@@Jwitherow1964 Thank you. If you can spare a moment every now and again to head over to Adorama TV and like my video (assuming you actually do like it) and leave a comment that's all the appreciation I need and it actually does help 👍
@@RickMahoney2013 Gary Fong, there's a blast from the past. Well the first thing a diffuser will do is cut the light output by about half. Then it will spread the light 360 degrees, like a bare bulb flash, so light will bounce around the room and (potentially) fill the shadows for softer light. Outside it will do nothing but cut power. Inside it depends on the room.
I did one on Adorama a few months back ruclips.net/video/ngV0QL8fr_k/видео.htmlsi=FRjc5mx-dKXNDgWh and I followed it up a few weeks later with a creative light version. Despite getting lots of requests for couple / group lighting tutorials, the cold hard currency of views per video means I'm unlikely to doing more 😢
@@TrollHoleStudios It might. It depends on the zoom spread of the speedlight and size of the reflector. I find what happens is it's more rounded but not totally round.

Absolutely. If you can learn to live without HSS and TTL you'll appreciate it even more when you upgrade 😉

I know all about AA batteries-back in the day I had to power 6 Nikon SB-910s, and each sat on a PocketWizard FlexTT5! 😀😀
I remember those days all to well too! The speedlight photographers today don't know how lucky they are 😉

Morning to the Hoey Family, Grenfell NSW Australia
Hi, I'm from recorded people for today! I remember how I broke a clamp in one of my Godox AD600BM, when inserted umbrella...
It seems crazy that there's no standard diameter for umbrella shafts!
@@GavinHoey Most likely, it's a matter of precision and quality of manufacture. A regular screw would have been better.
Hello Gavin and team, another one watching the recording due to work getting in the way 😂
Welcome to the recording Ralf 😁
How about a defused like one from Gary Fong. How would that make the light different ???

Hello from Motala, Sweden
Gavin where did or do you get a Poly ?
I found Poly in a box at the back of my parents shed. Assuming that's not where most people would try first I'd suggest Amazon 😉

Fog or smoke, to modify
Totally valid answer Phillip. I don't know if I've ever mentioned it... I do love a bit of smoke 🤣
