I love her interpretation of this piece. I got to meet her and really pick her brain about careers and singing and she was sooo helpful and nice. Such a graceful woman and wonderful singer. I am happy that she got to hear me sing and that she had such faith in me.! Yay Marietta!
IMHO, this is the best version on RUclips. Could be a bit faster on the prestissimo sections but I haven't heard anyone sing it this very accurate. Robert Shaw and Marrietta Simpson are simply amazing.
beautiful! lovely, innovate ornamentation. at first i though the tempo dragged in the b section but it truly brings out the beauty of the line and ornamentation. bravo. non. bravissimo! come to san francisco and sing with its orchestra if you havent already. muah.
Love her voice and this is a great job! But I just prefer the baritone to sing this. To me it only sounds like fire when a baritone sings it. But she is awesome. Beautiful voice.
i really like the look in her eyes when she sings the refiner's fire - get you scared if you aren't righteous!
BRAVA!! This is the best version of this on You Tube and probably the best female interpretation of the piece I've ever heard.
Now, THAT is the way Handel intended it to be sung! Robert Shaw would have nothing less.

Marietta Simpson -- But Who May Abide the Day of His Coming?
Sing it like he wrote, Miss Marietta! Amen!
WoW! Every note as clear as a well-rung bell!
This is my favorite video/songstress on this song. I searched for it for a while, but it wasn't here. Glad to have it back.
this is beautiful, and wonderfully interpreted by Ms. Simpson
Indeed. She sings this beautifully.
Sublime singing!
Magical moment ! I like the light and energy in her voice.
that was awesome!! she killed that aria!!!
Brava, Marietta! heartfelt and of magnificent delineation!
Almost beyond words.

Absolutely riveting. Awesome!!
@pnolanrn Yes, she sang 'The Messiah', here in DC at the Washington Cathedral last month. Just as beautiful.

This clip was recorded in 1987. Have you heard her more recently?

She doesn't need to trill because she's doing it all the time
