It's doesn't matter coz they are native already and trand is changing many words are new invanted it's all about good word and for that make better communication
It's true. I worked at a language school in Vancouver and they were more about keeping the students entertained and happy than challenging the students to study. If students barely put in any effort (and they do need motivation sometimes), the teachers didn't put any pressure on them to learn, even if the teachers really did care. The instructors had to balance the desire to help the students against the bigger "business" of pleasing the students. There's a lot of mollycoddling here. By the way, students who don't like Asians (these prejudiced individuals mainly come from a couple of countries, which I won't name), please don't come to Vancouver and walk through the city being rude and aggressive to Asian people. There's been an upsurge in this and it's quite troubling. Thanks.
It's not the teachers job to put pressure on the students to learn. It's the teachers job to teach and give error correction. If students need to be 'pressured' and 'challenged' to study after buying a plane ticket, paying for home stay, and living in the second most expensive city in the world, maybe English is not their thing. These students should motivate themselves. After all, who benefits? The students are already privileged being able to study abroad, and taking their studies seriously will give them even more opportunities back home. Teachers aren't servants to the unmotivated. I've taught a lot in Van. I've had fantastic students, and I've had some that expect the teachers micromanage every minute detail of the learning. I found that aspect a little demeaning.
I think that there's no any problem to me learning English in these places cause I'm Brazilian and it's gonna be hard to meet some Brazilian over there ... I really think that depends on people. I came to Canada around 16 but I had no problem learning English in Vancouver. I guess it really depends on people.

If I just went to school,I couldn’t improve my English skill. However I joined like a public event,so I could make a lot of friends! What I’m saying is it depends on person.I think the results are changed by your attitude!!
Great to hear. It sounds like you are outgoing and have some confidence. For students like you, I think you can succeed in any city. Unfortunately. not every student is like you and need more guidance.
Thank you so much! But, I already studied English in Vancouver. my English is very weird. I was surprised that there are so many Japanese and Korean students in Vancouver. I haven't made a Canadian friend.
I guess it has been roughly around 4 years since this video was uploaded, but I still agree with every single thing that this instructor says. My first visit to Canada was not in one of the provinces that he recommends but was in Chilliwack, British Columbia in the year 2003. Now Chilliwack is quite a small city even today (not that there is anything wrong with it), says many of my friends, and it definitely was a small city back then. Having lived in such a small city, and study in a local public school for some time, it definitely helped me stay away from Korean people. Stepping out of your cultural box is not going to kill you. If you ever get a chance to study in Canada, learn to respect Canadian local culture, and learn English first and foremost, try your hardest to find small cities. I still have a long way to go with my English, but it is good enough to recommend people to study in a small Canadian city.
My wife is Canadian (Toronto born) , and she confirms that conjugation of the verb to go is the same in Canada as it is in the USA. So, it is bad English both in Canada and in the USA.
It is great to learn English in Vancouver. I was just talking about my experience as an English teacher for 20 years. Tell us about your experiences in Vancouver.
I'm not a Korean. But, the Canadian teacher told me good things: 'A struggle is a true value to a goal.'. Without struggle, anyone cannot find new frontiers in real on a continuous basis. That is a reason why I have to say 'I welcome the struggle.'. When I go away from safe zone so far, something looks like onerous might follow me at the same time. Secondly, I would have to say ' the virtuous welcomes the onerous thing.'. Third, I have to say 'No' to everyone that tries to insult my struggle. In the end, I will leave them behind. Meanwhile, I'm gonna put my attention on the hands reaching out to me from somewhere new frontiers. New frontiers would become my new safe zone someday. The struggle is fun!

I will be spending not one or two years, but as long as I can in Canada, and learning English is crucial, but not my top priority. Jackeline Just so that you know Calgary averages -13 (plus wind chill I have been there when it was -27, if you have never seen a frozen river, then this will be numbing for you), in the winter. Being from Brazil, you have no clue how cold -20's can be. Toronto does not get that cold and it has a vast underground city that connects the downtown without having to walk outside. Also there is a huge difference from getting a degree from the UofT than from the U of Alberta. Go to Toronto, or try Vancouver.
Jackeline Rodrigues , did you choose?? I’d like to her someone who experienced this adventure. I was reading a lot about Toronto but almost everything he said really makes sense. I heard a lot about Philippines too in Toronto

Edward Hicks Is it my imagination, or does this narrator have an accent? I don't hear the normal flow of Candian english in his presentation. It is almost as if he is simutaneously translating from one language to english in his head before he speaks.
This applies to all cities where the minority is the majority. For example if a Spanish speaking person wants to learn English it’s best to avoid places like L.A. Where Spanish is spoken everywhere because naturally you would want to gravitate to someone you can relate to in an unfamiliar place. I live in Vancouver and I see a lot of international students speaking their own language. The only way to learn a new language is by speaking it daily and not relying on your own.
Hi Robin, thanks for this video. I think this does not only apply to Koreans, I think to any international students. I am latin, and I am evaluating going to Canada to study English (when coronavirus finish). I am thinking of the province of Alberta or Victoria, the idea is not find Latins people, so I could try harder to speak English.

EujiKim This guy is not Canadian born, his accent is wrong. Do not try to speak English like him. We have many Koreans in Vancouver who learn to speak english very well, it is not where you learn, but how. Only thing you will learn in Calgary or Edmonton is how not to freeze to death.
Hi, Mr Robin. Thank you for the tips. Could you tell me which agencies you trust in these places you recommended? Because here in Brazil, we only have the option in Vancouver, Toronto, Victoria and Calgary. Thank you!
Robin, thanks for your opinion about to study engllish, you are right about "do not study english in vancouver or toronto", I am from mexico I took many or several courses in mexico but never finished them because I get bored and I feel that the teacher only focus the attention on the to be verb, so I desided to quit all those programs. I learned more talking with american people, as you said get out of the classroom, that for me, was the best way to learn english and improve it, then I become a mexican airplane pilot for small aircrafts and I remember to fly from mexico to U.S. in several times to Mc Allen, San Antonio, and some others cities and all the comunication between the pilot ( my self) and the control tower were in english in a very noising and stressful environment because I have to pay attention very carefully to the instruction follow them and navegate the plane , the comunication between my and the custom border protection officer were in english too, so the focus topic here is get out of the classroom and practice. greetings from mexico.
@@ShawEnglishOnline please if I write something wrong correct me is the best way to learn,, please let me know what do you try to tel me "Pilot is English is like another language"
Completely wrong suggestion! Just compare life in Toronto/ Vancouver and other '' small towns'' in Canada and you will understand WHY students arrive to Toronto or Vancouver MOSTLY. It all depends on teachers and if native speakers teach the language and how good is the school and NOT on location. My experience is longer than your age.
That's right. Plus there's so much going on in life other than learning English. Going to bigger cities simply means better lifestyle and more opportunities. (also people from small towns tend to be more racist against Asians)
Hi. Thanks for your helpful video. I'm Taiwanese and recently want to go to Toronto for studying college. After watching your video, I think going to Toronto is not a good idea. where would you recommend to study for business? I know there are lots of businesses and trading in Toronto.
Joe MingChe Firstly, you have to pass the TOEFL, there is an exemption for people from Hong Kong, but not for Taiwanese. If you want to bypass this, then graduate from a Canadian high school (number of good private schools in Vancouver (St.Georges comes to mind) also good public schools (West Vancouver Secondary for one). UBC has an excellent commerce department festooned with Chinese from the People's Republic, Hong Kong, Singapore, and of course Taiwan. Better to go there and network so when Taiwan becomes part of China you will have school chums to do business with. Vancouver is also the number one destination for money laundering from the People's Republic, (this is indicative of our outrageously high house prices), and I could imagine that there are many business opportunities available in that industry in BC as opposed to Toronto. Yu may also want to add Cantonese to your language aresenal as that is the Chinese most often spoken in Vancouver.
Canada is a really good! Well better than usa! Canadian english is a really good one! Vancouver and toronto are big cities and there is a lot of ethnicities
if we listen to you and go to other cities this story also will happen to them and after some time those cities will be just like Vancouver and Toronto
Yes, a valid argument. I just hope international students just don't cluster in certain cities. There are so many better cities (and cheaper) to study English in the U.K., the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, and Canada! Stay away from the main cities! I can always make another video with a new list of Canadian cities....and towns if needed.
I think we don't have to live in the future, for now, just get away from people who speak the same language. So, currently, you can go to another cities to have benefits mentioned in the video.

Ray Sun It depends on how close to it you live. ;-) Trana usually. Seriously. The first O is so short as to be almost silent, and all the O's are closer to an ah sound than an oh sound. But it's going to depend some on your native accent. You can't go wrong with Toh-ron-toh in a pinch, that's how most people outside Ontario even if they're english Canadian say it so you won't sound too weird for it.
I came to Canada in 2015 from China. There are tons of Chinese in Van and Toronto. Many my friends in high school failed IELTS or received no offers. It's true that many my friends didn't improve their English at all, instead they picked up some Chinese dialects. Very pathetic. Improving English skills did not depend on the cities they are in. It's more about forcing myself not to talk to other Chinese , sometimes, ignore them completely. Now they are in Ryerson or China but I'm in uoft. :)
You really seem to have a bit of a Slavic accent of some kind - were your parents from over there? Or - what is your background? Just curious - if you don't feel like talking about it, no problem!
I think all students should try to go to cities that do not have many international students. It is better to be surrounded by native speakers to truly develop your English.
Hello; this is a great video, I'm interesting to improve my English studying at Canada. Could you tell where to find information about a good school at Calgary or other similar city? I'll appreciate if I can compare prices ( School, meals, place for rent)
Thanks for your labour. l have a questation because my mind is little confused. What about the other cities? Why they have Canadian native speakers students. Because the Canadian students know english very well anyway. Why they go to language schools?
Update - Thanks for all the positive and negative comments on the video. I do apologize as the video was designed to be strong on the opinion. Of course there are exceptions to all arguements I make in the video. This guy is not Canadian born, his accent is wrong.
Thank you!
I recommend Calgary.
Which language Scholl do you recommed un otttawa? I can not find many options ...
I do not recommend any school. I cannot help you.
@@ShawEnglishOnline I am not Korean, I will study in Toronto not matter your stupid video
It seems you have your plan. Good for you. I am not sure why you dislike the video, but good luck anyways.
Thank you for your comment. Pilot is English is like another language. I can't even understand radio language. But Yes, get out of the classroom!
@@ShawEnglishOnline please if I write something wrong correct me is the best way to learn,, please let me know what do you try to tel me "Pilot is English is like another language"
thanks @@ShawEnglishOnline
I think depends on people too. Your learning ability. Many people have learning difficulties wherever they go.
Would you recommend me please, some institute en Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton where I can find a IELTS, TOEFL intensive preparation course?
For Sydney and Melbourne is the same in Australia
Thanks for sharing
Hi. Thanks for your helpful video. I'm Taiwanese and recently want to go to Toronto for studying college. After watching your video, I think going to Toronto is not a good idea. where would you recommend to study for business?
I know there are lots of businesses and trading in Toronto.
My videos are about studying English. Toronto would be a great place to study business.
Joe MingChe
Firstly, you have to pass the TOEFL, there is an exemption for people from Hong Kong, but not for Taiwanese.
Thank a lot of the good recommend , :)
Welcome ❤️
Great video! Which english school would you recommend in Calgary?
I would not recommend any school. Try to stay out of the schools.
But if I'm not applying to any school, how can I learn english? Just talking to people on the streets? I think I didn't get your point.
Thank you, good advices?
You are welcome!
if we listen to you and go to other cities this story also will happen to them and after some time those cities will be just like Vancouver and Toronto
Yes, a valid argument. I just hope international students just don't cluster in certain cities. There are so many better cities (and cheaper) to study English in the U.K., the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, and Canada! Stay away from the main cities!
I can always make another video with a new list of Canadian cities....and towns if needed.
so you always have an option up your sleeve!
I think we don't have to live in the future, for now, just get away from people who speak the same language. So, currently, you can go to another cities to have benefits mentioned in the video.
I'm syrian. and I want study learn how speak english. from youtube because I don't have money to enter school . because I'm now live in lebanon because of war in syria unfortaountly. and I understan a little what you say . you're accent easy for understam for me . you good . thank you.
I wright this message without used translate . please tell me If there is wrong.
thank you so much
how will I make friends Canada ?
how do you pronounce "Toronto" ?
Ray Sun It depends on how close to it you live. ;-) Trana usually. Seriously. The first O is so short as to be almost silent, and all the O's are closer to an ah sound than an oh sound. But it's going to depend some on your native accent. You can't go wrong with Toh-ron-toh in a pinch, that's how most people outside Ontario even if they're english Canadian say it so you won't sound too weird for it.
Jessie le Fey thanks a lot, I always pronounce as toh-ron-toh but I think I heard trun-toh in the video
Yeah. I've noticed mostly natives in Toronto pronounce it as Trana.
T-raw-no
Vancouverites call it "hog town" and "centre of the universe", those are also acceptable names for Toronto.
Do you also recommend in England? In addition, the language centers are worth?
도시를 고르실때 날씨도 꼭 고려하세요 -20도 넘게 내려가는 도시들이 꽤 많아요..
Good for you! -Robin
So, as a linguist, I hear your speech has a slight Eastern European accent such as Czech or Slovak. What other language do you speak?
This is funny. I was born in Canada. I speak no other languages.
You really seem to have a bit of a Slavic accent of some kind - were your parents from over there? Or - what is your background? Just curious - if you don't feel like talking about it, no problem!
Pude haber visto este video antes de comprar mi vuelo, y tener todo listo para Vancouver....
This is a good video, but i have a question. Do you know some cheaper schools of Canada for students ?
+Paul Sorokovskyi Sorry. I do not know.
Halifax is a good idea? I think about new scotia
What about Oshawa city it is near Toronto city may be 100KM.
Congratulations for this video! How about the brazilians students?
I think all students should try to go to cities that do not have many international students. It is better to be surrounded by native speakers to truly develop your English.
Where to study English in Regina, Edmonton, Calgary. Please suggest..
All of those cities are great choices.
Are those your only choices? You do like freezing to death?
Depend on students not the city. Very childish video..
Check my update comment.
I am not a Korean. Then would Vancouver or Toronto be some right places to study English in?
Go where there are not many language schools or international students.
Hello; this is a great video, I'm interesting to improve my English studying at Canada.
Could you tell where to find information about a good school at Calgary or other similar city?
I'll appreciate if I can compare prices ( School, meals, place for rent)
Do you know what's the best city in Canada for language exchanges / programs? Halifax. Halifax, Nova Scotia. Runner up is Saint John's, NL.
+FalconsViewpoint The smaller the city, the better.
It is the same in Ireland. Been there for eight months.. lots of money and little improvement. Don't go to Dublin.
Thanks for sharing. Any update of you English in 2024?

Sure it is. There are many schools in every city.
Thanks for your labour. l have a questation because my mind is little confused. What about the other cities? Why they have Canadian native speakers students. Because the Canadian students know english very well anyway. Why they go to language schools?
Canadian students do not go to language school. Language schools have many international students.
