    Deadlock is in my opinion the best multiplayer game to come out in a long time. So excited to hop back in on release. Honestly between work and grinding it once i got an invite i messed up my wrist pretty bad and have been giving it time to rest. Though what makes me having to take a break easier is the state of the game. The fact its still in development and it seems like they are still tweaking with pretty core gameplay mechanics while also having a hard time setting up even matches makes me pretty okay with playing PoE2 until deadlock fully releases and i can log in and play ranked until i ruin my wrists again.

      I think your perspective is the majority of the people leaving's perspective. The game is still in development and while people are still interested, they'd rather just wait till release. The player counts don't need to be high as long as they're high enough for testing. The game isn't "dying," it just isn't released.

    I have been sitting at the Archon 5 to Oracle 1 rank for weeks and kept up a consistent 50:50 win loss ratio since I started playing at the beginning of September.
    Last patch drops and out the 33 matches I've played I have lost 23, had my longest loss streak of 8 games in a row, have been put with seemingly much lower performing teammates and have been booted down to Archon 2.
    Meanwhile, my friend who has played all these games with me has not gone up or down from Oracle 1, even despite having weaker numbers than me in every leader board stats except for healing.
    Neither of us know why the games have been so difficult or why my ranking is getting demolished and his isn't budging. Our assumption is that both the matchmaking and ranking system are just broken right now and not working correctly.
    Although the games keep saying the average ranking of both teams is equal, it feels like a great disparity between both sides a lot of the time. Spicy take, but I think it should show every skill rating at the end of the game.
    Both of us even swapped to characters we have no playtime in for 3 games, got put in Emissary 5, were always in the top 3 of our team, but still lost 2 out of 3 games, and felt like we were still going up against the same kind of players from higher ranked games.
    I'm just going to assume that I'm actually being dumb and missing something, but it'd be interesting to see if anyone else has had similar experiences.

      Man I couldnt have put it better myself - this has been happening consistently for the past couple of weeks. I used to not mind when I was playing with my buddies who are, admittedly, not very good lol. However, I consider myself a somewhat competent player, usually floating around mid to high oracle, but ever since then in solos I will get 10 games in a row where all of my teammates are like 1/10 and I am usually positive kda w/ high obj score. Not to disparage them, but it seems like theres something wrong with matchmaking/ranking. It is so blatantly obvious too and pretty demoralizing. I was hype trying to climb to phantom but now ive fallen down to oracle 1. :/ I also thought that I was just missing something that everybody is aware of lol

    Uninstalled it a week ago after getting tired of the current state of matchmaking, theres genuinely some good arguments made and I dont see how people can still say the game is perfect lol

      Completely agree! I think the game is tons of fun but to say it’s perfect is sticking ur head in the sand, which is kind of what I was going for with the thumbnail lol

    I agree when the pool is only so big you are literally forced to deal with the disparity regardless. I played bots for 3 games before hopping into a normal and I STILL felt like I had to go back it’s just a mix of a huge learning curve and incoming new players. Honest real way to learn is to just play but when you can’t play you can’t learn and that’s the problem for some.

    Played 8 games and won 6 on Kelvin in a row. Problem is - in all 8 games after 15-20 minutes of gameplay some of the players would just leave. Mostly it Haze players with 0/3 or 0/5 KD, lul. At this point I get used to sell everything, buy pushing items and spend around 10 mins just afk destroying buildings & core. It was funny first three times, but not anymore
    It feels like people just don't care and don't want to play that much. And I understand why: New players constantly get stomped with 0/10 KD and their teammates angry on them. Old players want to play in a team with their level of play but they end up with new players, who stay on base for 5 minutes reading what item they have to buy.
    People both on reddit and yt keep telling that "yall crying too much" and "game is not dying". Sure guys, but current community is. You might not like this guy who made post on reddit about bad matchmaking, but after bullying him for acknowledging problem you just lost another possible player for your lobby.
    I like this game, it is really amazing, but I freaking hate this two radical sides of conflict where one of them is "Game is dead" and other is "Stop talking about problems, suckers"

    the biggest point that most people miss when complaining is that this is NOT a released game, be gratefull that you are able to play and just have some fun without focusing on winning every game

      yeah. people are saying that valve just cheeses off everything bad in the game by saying "it's an alpha" but ffs what can they do if it really is an alpha lol. There is no proper comp matchmaking yet, there is no "Turbo" or just a quick play where you can just chill, not a lot of heroes, some released for comp heroes aren't even finished yet and etc.

      @@Ansonex3i queued my friends unranked matches with them and they calibrated ascendant and phantom. they have not deranked out of it and go 0/18 or some shit every game. one of them, understandably, dropped the game.

    Thank you for making a video on the real reason why Deadlock feels like it is suffering. I know plenty of people that are very upset at their matches that are being reasonable and unreasonable. People forget that this game is unreleased and for good reason too. And with that comes people who have unreasonable expectations for how it should be both balance, player count, and matchmaking wise. It sucks that we are in a spiral where fewer and fewer people are playing the game which causes similar skill thresholds to thin out but it’s to be expected!

    damn honetly i haven't considered this view point of us helping valve improve game for when it releases, the game honestly feels so finished, and it lacks only few components but other than that i would have happily even paid for deadlock in it's current state so i kept forgetting that the game is still in fact in alpha state.
    EDIT: i have noticed that matchmaking has been just awful recently and i have had way more definitive losses or definitive wins, but god damn this game is so much fun that i keep going back to it

    Really hard to learn new characters right now. I tried playing Shiv for the first time ever and I'm getting crushed my high ranked players. I'm stuck playing Haze because shes the only one I can hold my own with.

      Same issue here. I gravitated towards Yamato when I started, but played a few games with characters like Infernus, Pocket and Bebop. Now when I try to go back to any other character besides Yamato, it feels like I'm throwing.

    I used to play all the time but when they merged ranked into one queuing system, I just kinda stopped playing matchmaking and just queue for hero labs. All of my games in current matchmaking were mostly one sided usually for me. Every time I'd queue, I noticed that even though I am phantom 4, I still get matched in low tier oracle games. Mostly I win my matches by carrying my team a lot even if they fed but lately I kind of feel bored, there's no challenge in beating players that could barely deny their orbs , I feel like I'm smurfing even though that's what I got queued in thanks to the matchmaking system. In my opinion, the removal of the ranked section really affected the player base. Mixing highly competitive players with casual players who wont take their games seriously is a disaster in the making.
    I know they added the extra competitive option but even then, nothing changed that much...Fortunately there's faceit but that's only available to NA and EU, being region locked in Asia kinda sucks. For the time being, I"m just gonna be sticking to playing hero labs and wait until they fix matchmaking or that they bring ranked again...

    Can’t really find ques during night time.
    Was forced to create a second account if I’m playing at night, because my MMR is too high…
    I love Deadlock, but I’m not going to be ignorant to its matchmaking issues + hero balance issues. (Pocket for instance, the SSS tier hero who can BS his way out of any situation, positioning straight up doesn’t matter on Pocket either. Extremely unbalanced hero, and no build diversity for that hero either. (Every pocket uses the exact same build, and plays the exact same way).
    As more people get tired of the game’s issues, the player base will drop even more, and the matchmaking issue will only get worse. More Eternus/Asc players will make second accounts because of que times)
    I absolutely love Deadlock, but it’s got some SERIOUS issues, that cannot be overlooked, and need addressed somehow.

    I'll be looking forward to the other side of this games development as i really love deadlock, but currently I've only won 2 out of the last 12 games I've played (4 out of the last 16). There are other good games to play atm anyway, but I'll definitely be back.

      Seems like a lot of folks are looking to take a break, which I totally understand. It can be especially difficult w how much everything is changing constantly with it being an early stage build.
      But also the same people are saying “I’ll be back for sure” which is super encouraging 😃

    Yeah, so I really enjoyed deadlock. But the current state of the game where I feel relieved that my match is over and that I wasted my time made me uninstall.

    my problem with deadlock is its gonna go the exact same way dota did with itemization to counter certain team comps and honestly as a big moba player thats literally one of my least favorite things about dota 2
    it just feels like third person dota 2 with the exact same boring itemization problems.

      Interesting. I find that the itemization being similar to dota is a major selling point for me on deadlock. I love having to pay attention not only to the other teams heroes but items theyre building and abilities theyre maxing and having to pivot my items in order to counter them. I can see how that can be a deterrent if maybe youd rather have the builds be more focused on making your character play how you would like it to rather than having to react to the enemy team.

    Finally uninstalled yesterday. The game is fantastic and I will want to get addicted to it again once it releases, but despite not looking like an unfinished product, it still has a lot of things to iron out. It has become clear to me that the team over at Valve really wants to try stuff out, even if what they add is unbalanced and unfun, just to see what sticks. The downside is that the instability drove a lot of people away, and the matchmaking suffered for it, although, being completely honest, matchmaking has been one of the game's weaknesses for a long time.
    I lost over 10 games in a row in the span of 3 days because of players being way better than me and my team, or because we had a 0/10 Mo/Lash/Wraith that was clearly just learning the ropes. I'm done with the roulette, starting every match hoping that this is the one I'll finally be able to win, only to realize that the match is already lost after the laning phase is over.
    Great game, but it's clearly still just a concept.

    Even if the game is great, there are a lot of players like me who won't bother playing it when there is no proper Ranked. I don't mind having 20 minute queues for a good ranked game over 5 minute queues and bad quality games. Sometimes I want to tryhard and sometimes I want to try different heroes. Marvel Rivals is imo not as fun as Deadlock but it has a Ranked Mode so i'm playing that. THE FINALS was a peak game and probably still is gameplay wise but it also doesn't have a decent Ranked Mode so that's the reason I also didn't touch it in 6 months.

    my theory with bad matchmaking is like this: when the game only came out the matchmaking was very bad and player base was booming, so i was playing with like 75% of win rate on bebop for first 100games.
    Then they fixed the matchmaking to the point where it now tries to make everyone's winrate reach 50%, which means putting low skill players with me and high skill players against me to lower my overall winrate.
    This is how I end up streaking 10 losses in a row
    My winrate is now stabilizing and reachin 54%, which seems correct, but i needed to loose a ton of games to reach that. Thats broken experience for sure, which may be the same for many other players.
    Or may be it was overall balance of the hero that I play(they pretty much nerfed bebop bomb build)

      I am a part of 4 people team . We had like 5 matches altogether, we are pretty much noobs. But each time there is Lash with 100+ hours against us that is just crushing everything on his way. This is getting ridiculous..

    Me thinks people forget deadlock is in alpha... It's still being tested and, when I take part in an alpha I assume there is going to jank if not game destroying patches. It's part of the process; deadlock is still a fun game at its base. They are cooking and it takes several iterations to make the best meal.

    Haven't played much in a month or so. I disagree that wide skill party matchmaking is the problem, I think the reality is that there are some core gameplay issues that get made obvious by the lowest skill player in a lobby but those problems exist even in lobbies with no "low skill" player. I've talked to a dozen or so Eternus ranked players and they all say the same thing that it's miserable late game in matches because there's no good death to be had on the map so late games are just decided by whichever team has the more patient death avoidant players (assuming the early game wasn't a huge stomp one way or another.) This means that it doesn't matter how well you do as an individual player because whether you win or lose is determined by which team has the one duo that's not gonna group and die trying to get a dumb pickoff and then you just lose mid or 2 or more walkers with no real counterplay 4v6. No amount of you playing correctly can change that situation so many late game losses just feel as though there was nothing you could do about it and that's just unfun af. With no good death to be had on the map (dragging enemies on a chase/backdooring/other objectives type shit just never accomplishes enough to really excuse a death) any time a teammate puts themselves in a position where they could die they are technically griefing. That promotes late game grouping playstyles where everyone is forced to cluster and look for the superior chance to teamfight and anyone playing solo on the map becomes a huge liability. In that kind of gamestate you are forced to play not to throw rather than to make something cool happen. It also makes balancing certain types of heroes impossible. In a game where deaths are always bad then the heroes with the kits that promote the easiest murdering will just dominate. Look at Vindicta and Paradox. They have the ability with their kits to create pickoffs from range, in a game where deaths become overwhelmingly punishing and bad. When Vindictas numbers are playable she's 70% pickrate because the kit is oppressive to the style of gameplay the game favors. Her kit can only be overpowered or too weak with the current function of gameplay until some other sort of objective or way to advance game-state is added that isn't just about killing enemy heroes. Even when Paradox's skills and stats have all been nerfed down she's still 70% pick and above average win% in high skill lobbies because fundamentally she just is a better hero for how wins/losses are decided.
    Not really sure if there's a fix to be had unless they're going to change things fundamentally by adding other gamestate progressing objectives or altering the overall power levels of all heroes or adding some more death mechanics or something. As it is there's just no way to combat that sinking feeling of it being 45 minutes into a game and the other team gets a double kill and you just sit there knowing the next 2 minutes of your life are gonna be miserable and that you can't risk making any cool play to get your team back in it because if you die now they just get all walkers or base guardians/shrines cause 3v6 defense is impossible. Playing all the other parts of the game just for none of it to matter because one rando got picked carelessly and then tilted and it happened a second time so they get mid boss on first and shrines on second is just zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and the problem is only exaggerated when there's a player well below lobby average on one team. Probs won't play again until there's a major shake up but I definitely have faith in the devs and the game long term. Good video tho and gl with the channel bro.
    PS. ADD SERVER SELECTION HOLY SHIT I CAN'T QUEUE WITH ANY OF MY EUROPEAN FRIENDS BECAUSE NONE OF US KNOW IF WE'LL BE ON NA OR EU SO NONE OF US CAN PICK ANY HEROES THAT RELY ON LOW PING BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW WHICH HALF OF OUR PARTY WILL BE ON PING. It's so obnoxious to play on EU knowing like 1/3rd of the soul orbs will be denied before they even really appear on my screen meanwhile my bestie can't play his mains because he doesn't want to grief trying to land paradox swap on 180 ping.

      The game changes from very individual based in the early and mid game to play hand holding because if youre caught off guard oops 100ccs slows ability stun tether grab youre dead lol

      I haven't seen that be an issue with any of the eternus players I watch, their games are quite fast usually because of the massive skill differences between Ascendant and Eternus players since the E6 players are roughyl 0.001% peak players and ascendants are roughly top 2% the difference in skill means if they don't have an even number of eternus players queuing the game is essesntially decided at draft screen.
      Other than that you're describing extremely low skill rating behavior, getting double picked 45 mins in the game should snowball and lose you the game if your enemies have hands with fingers on them.
      I will say the length of midboss respawn latergame does slow the game down occasionally as neither team will want to push for 2 mins until the midboss fight decides the game but it's pretty common right now to see 20 minute games where one team got a lead a mid and ahead of flexes and just ends.
      It is wild to me that there is so much reddit crying going on that there's so many reports of "every game is a roflstomp roll game over in 20seconds" and at the exact same time a "unending game that neither team can possibly end for an hour"
      almost like people just wanna cope and cry or something.

      Thanks so much for the detailed comment, volsirk! I really, really appreciate such a long and respectful comment. Sorry it took me a minute I wanted to make sure I could give a worthwhile response.
      While I appreciate the issues with late game grouping, I do think this may be more an issue with the genre and how the respawn timer works to cause kills to be more valuable as the game goes on, if the respawn timer doesn't increase then the game would go on for much longer than it does now, which is the primary motivator to not die in the first place. Also, it is pretty simple to play around an enemy team that is deathballing, because keeping your lanes pushed and keeping map presence all over the map is incredibly important in the late game.

    literally in ascendant by the games matchmaking. And have archanist and Ritualist level players in all my lanes while im playing against phantoms like it dont make sense. I feel like this shit is apex all over again you have one good game then are slammed by Huge odds disparity against you. That isnt skill based that punishing me playing well and makes my experience and my unfortunate teammates miserable

    not a single game has good MM. the problem with MM always has been is there are drastic differences between the same rank. lebron and steph are leagues above other pros, but they are all pros, the same thing happens across all brackets, there are lebrons in all ranks that are better than the vast majority among that bracket, the player #'s are low, which makes pairing similar brackets far worse, the game is dying, the game is still in development, and has been in development for years, its a multi million dollar project that still have yet to introduce monetization to pay the developers, the game will shut down soon after launch due to lack of revenue and popularity, they wouldn't break even if they sold the game for 60 dollars and all 25k people bought into it.

      Somewhat agree, not a single game has good MM is a stretch. The rank redistribution was a step in the right direction but it’s still a bit off from where your skill level may actually be, still not entirely accurate.

    I’ve been talking with some devs and people in the comp scene and they don’t expect this game to be released until at least 2026. Right now we are just helping valve make the game better. And it’s awesome seeing how responsive valve is to individual feedback in the forums and discord. REMEMBER THIS GAME IS NOT DONE

    Call me crazy but Valve wants this game to "die". They were forced to release this game because of the leaks. I like the theory that they are using the current player base as free lab rats and are just driving them to death for every single ounce of data. Once the game "dies" and people stop talking about it outside their own bubbles they will work on it and get ready to "rerelease" in 2/3 years.

      While I agree the game is amazing and this certainly isn’t worth being upset about, still absolutely worth talking about, especially in these early days where Valve is looking for as much feedback as possible!

      I so unironically feel like this is an issue with today's gamer compared to say 2012 dota players, every shitty dota player back then would cope and try and improve because "no their hero was bullshit I just have to do XYZ" now everyone falls back on "wow that guy is just a nerd no way I could ever beat him"
      Like nobody has been told gitgudscrub when they cry about being shit and IT SHOWSSSSS
      like half the reddit crying people are doing about deadlock people wouldn't have been caught dead saying that shit back in early dota you'd get bullied off the internet for crying about your own skill issues.
      "oh wow X player has 10,000000 hours!" in 2002 wow that's sick I wish I could be that good.
      "oh wow X player has 10,000000 hours!?" in 2024 what a loser I can't believe he enjoys playing the game I like get him!

      While i agree with sentiment to get good. Its hard to do taht when my 4 other lanes are literally first time on there hero vs Eternus players. Like there aint shit you can do when the skill gap is that large and thats what every game feels liek rn. Its a miserable stomp by one team

    Whole week of losses with 2 wins in the whole week,every match,there is at least 1-3 of my teammate diving into enemy and feeding,they seem super new to the game,i just want teammates that dh more than 10 deaths is that too much to ask
