They also tend to forget that unlike most protagonists who spent most of their lives preparing for the time they set off to achieve their dreams/goals....Deku had none of that. Worse actually....a bullied kid without powers in a world in which powers are the norm. Furthermore Deku is the protagonist but he is also not the protagonist. MHA focuses on many characters at the same time. Deku doesnt get the same focus like Ichigo or Naruto or Luffy. Finally....the crying part. Where to even begin....let's start with the obvious. Deku at first was crying a lot because OFA was literally devastating his body. Imagine Luffy pulling Gear Second early on in the series or Naruto going full Nine Tails mode (harmful mode) long before Shippuden. That's what was happening to Deku. We're talking major pain here. And despite all that he still fought to protect lives and steadily learned to control the powers. The emotional part.....he is a teenager and he is being targeted by the World's Greatest Villain. One of the most ruthless people ever. And if said villain gets him then it's game over for the entire world. So of course he is going to cry his eyes out from time to time...this shait is way too much. Finally....his desire not to wish people harm.....even the ones who bullied him. This is one of the core ideas of classic heroism. Deku ain't even the first. Peter Parker and Flash Thompson. Flash was a straight up bully no different than Bakugo. Peter still didn't wish harm upon him despite all that. Wanting to help villains like Shigaraki....killing off someone aint easy. It aint revenge and it aint justice. Batman, Spider-Man, Superman they don't want to kill anyone no matter how horrible. Plus Deku has Shigaraki's grandmother as part of him thanks to OFA. So it's understandable that it is hard for him to bring himself to off Shigaraki. Bottom line (and please don't spoil me i only watch the anime) i don't understand why Deku gets the hate/mockery he gets. Could the execution of the character writing have been better? Yes but in the present he is well written and entertaining.
