The man promised his wife that he would win a gold medal for her. But his wife died in a car accident july 16, 2007. That is the reason of his reaction after lifting that thing.
Mathias steiner makes me cry every single time. seriously
same !!!
@@1aryan61 omg 😱 same here he is a legend felt bad for him in London when he hurt his neck
Come on, he isnt that ugly
One of the most heartbreaking moments in Olympic history!! Was für ein Mahnmal, dieser Steiner!!
No words! Simple amazing! The happiest person on Earth at that time!
It's a shame you didn't have a close-up of Mathias receiving his medal: he's holding a photo of his late wife.
he got another wife just 1,5 years after Beijing ;)
people move on
NO
Reading this comment made me fucking cry
@@foxmmmm so what? Just because she unfortunately died he's not allowed to love again?
He lost his wife in a car accident.
So fucking tragic, and yet he wins. He did it.
wtf are you talking about
He literally lost his personal coach, and wife, in between the Olympics.
MegaRobby if you see a comment with so many likes, you should rather investigate instead of asking a dumb question.
MegaRobby1996 seriously you almost treat this comment as if he doesn’t know what he’s saying, you’re stupid
Am I the only one that thinks his story would make for an amazing film?
2:33 tht appreciation frm fellow competitor is way more meaningful thn wining medals! Thts wht We shld live for
That was 100% appreciation because he knew once Mathias completed that C&J it was game over!
fucking 8 years passed by in a minute. I can't believe it. :(
When Beijing games ended I asked myself, oh hell , it will take ages for London games to begin , but now Rio games are over . How fast is time flying ....
Gold Medal for his wife, Respect
В руках у Маттиаса Штайнера фото его супруги Сюзанн, погибшей в автокатастрофе за год до этой олимпиады..... Я даже представить не могу как он это пережил, как продолжал готовиться, как совладал с собой и победил на Олимпиаде...
Awesome. Shivers down my spine watching this again. Steiner deserved this through and through!
For a moment, Matthias Steiner was the happiest man in the world. Sometimes it needs more than strength to be the strongest.
wish they didn't cut off the celebration... that was the best part of it
The story about Matthias and his wife has brought me to tears several times when I've thought about it, about his loss, his promise to her and what he achieved.
Matthias is the greatest person alive in my book.
good to see a guy who went through so much win........... steiner buried his wife less than a year ago so i was so glad to see him win......... priceless reaction.........
This weight lifters may be fat but they have lots of muscle weight and also really know how to pick up weights. Olympics weight lifters have the same balance as ballerina
Chigishev was definitely not fat.
Even though he weighed around the 280-290 lb. range and had a lot of muscle, he was incredibly strong for a Super-Heavyweight Weightlifter pound for pound.
Check out Li Xiaojun.
Fat is only with the heaviest lifters, who dont have to be worried about fitting in the weight class
Pablo Cid They still have to worry a bit about weight, gaining to much weight will make them slower, often causing problems in the snatch, look how Chingishev only weighted 125 kilos and could snatch 210, which is very near the snatch world record, but was a 13 kilos from the world record in Clean and jerk
Also, to add onto that, lightest guy in a tie would be the winner Ludwig Eriksson
Fat doesn't lift weight. No one of these guys can spend energy in wearing fat.
Definitely the best moment in weightlifting
2:33 Russian guy: "Oh, well"
so inspirational
That is the best reaction ive ever seen for anything. What a legend!
I've met the great Viktors Scerbathis! He is a legend, huge guy! And I love his technique what an athlete. An Steiner is just the King of weightlifting at this present time! WOW! such strength out of that 258 kg clean Im so pleased for him, he deserved it!
Right in the feels
Beautiful movement!
Sad to see him down, he is a great weightlifter
Chigichev got beat by 1kg by someone who weighed 30kg more steiner had divine help that day
Pound for pound, Chigishev is definitely the strongest Super-Heavyweight Weightlifter of all time.
+John Barrett Alexandr Kurlowitsch was stronger and not really heavier and had a total of 472,5 on
worlds 1987
Anatoliy Pisarenko jerked 265 kg @ 123 kg.Chigishev best c&j in a competition is 250 kg i think.
Greetings from Germany ;-) watch Interviews. He is like the klitschkos Brothers. But his Story brings you close to tears
his reaction, steiner was priceless.....princeless i tell ya
tears of joy fell down my cheek when Steiner won ;)
Initially i didnt like Steiner winning Gold as Chigishev is my fav lifter but when i came to know abt story of his wife it really touched me True love never dies ....It was promise given to his dead wife which gave him strength to finish last gold medal wining lift truly awesome
258 por la gloria olímpica...gran levantamiento.
congrats Steiner, great lifting.
Watch the animated version its like 20 seconds long but powerful
pound for pound that russian guy is pretty damn strong!
This Russian screaming was hilarious
Ultra Strong guys !
as a man who is a total beast, i didn't expect him to scream like a girl, haha....jk, much respect to these athletes
you missed his story, his wife died in a car accident before the games and he promised her he would win the gold... trully a big moment for him
Rezazadeh had serious health problems and was not in shape to compete for gold, hardly even medals, on Beijing. Not a sportsman like him would skip the chance for 3rd Olympic gold in row if he thought he had any chance to make it. That doesn't however change the fact that he's still a living legend and one of the all-time best, even though his time on the top now is over.
About Steiner, the way he just forced himself to make the last lift with an enormous effort is very impressive!
I met steiner while been back home in Tenerife. Him and the rest of the German national team were training in my town this Summer and I have got to say that the guy is apretty top bloke (well they all were)...plus when you see him, you don't really think that you are talking to a man that can lift 258 kilos C+J
I even drank beers and tequila shots with them...though towards the end of the night Matthias sort of wandered off and everyone was looking for him haha
this means love +olympic !
Totally!!
@wolftch are you kidding me? regardless of the tragedy he experienced, anyone would be that thrilled, excited or emotional for winning a GOLD MEDAL FOR THEIR COUNTRY in the biggest competition in the summer olympic games. if anything, HE IS BEHAVING HUMAN.
That was magnificient.
That big german is pushing over 1000 pounds over his head! well done man
I love him
Please be polite and instead go and read the history: The winner in Olympics 2000 and 2004 had 472.5 kg. The winner of 2008 had 461. The bronze winner of 2000 lifted 462.5 kg.
immer wieder gänsehaut!
Respect for Evegeny Chigishev
Sorry but 2010balam is correct here, in 2004 the gold medal in the +105 event went to Hossein Rezazadeh from Iran with 472.5 total. He is also right about the 2000 event.
They make the bar look like a little toothpick.
La celebración más humana que he visto hasta ahora
one word: inspiration!
Nobody was beating him that day, maybe another day, another time, maybe ANY other day and time...but that day, nobody was touching him
Given the top comment I think I'm pretty safe in saying these guys are so hot! I'm so glad there are at least some Olympic sports that show off the beauty of big men for us big men admirers.
amazing
Der größte Moment seines Lebens.
Somebody is cutting onions here.
yes
The BOSS
he is from iran, google it, hossein rezazadeh, or youtube search it. he has world records in olympics in 2000 and 2004. and retired just 1 month before 2008 olympics or he would hav clean sweaped that place.
He lift 263kg like a toy :)
chigichev is ripped beast! surprisingly ripped for 105+
I respect male weightlifters and fear female weightlifters!!
iv got his autograph :P
steiner is a true ledgend
@kooziejr for now you are right. his problem is: he is very good in snatch but not good enough in clean and jerk. to be thebest you have to be strong in clean and jerk. you remember 1996 in atlanta? tschemerkin was the best in clean and jerk
He doesn't hold the real world records though. He only has his records because the old ones were removed when the weight classes were restructured. His clean and jerk, snatch and total have all been beaten at Olympics during the 80s.
Chigyev even in this weight class is quite ripped
muchas vigas
This is Steiner!! Ahu
Actually he is Austrian, but the Austrian Olympic Association pissed him off, so he became a German citizen...
snap city!
GOD STEINER IS SOO STRONG!!!
His wife died in an accident one year before the olympics, and I heard he promised to win gold for her.
chigishev is the man to beat in the future
@DaVodo0, ow :( sorry I didn't know that. Steiner 4 LIFE :D It takes so much self-control to train after such a loss :( BIG UP
Does anyone else think that Chigishev kind of looks like an alternate reality Seth Rogen? Instead of comedy, he got into weight lifting!
Голуба лучший
it seems to me that the russian was too sure about his victory
@The666thBowelOfHell look at wikipedia, he was born in vienna
feels
misha koklayev would kick ass if he would start with weight lifting again+
Yes but everyone knows that in Beijing weights are heavier than in Sydney or Greece.
This moment makes me sad. Sorry, but it does. 😢😭
bravo germany i am just feeling some undescribable feelings :)
@The666thBowelOfHell he is austrian
@freedomsoldier187 probably the cause of why he went so crazy
he retired before this on advice from his doctor. high blood pressure and hand injuries.
❤🎉😊
wow gud lifted
wish rezazadeh was there, in 2008, i heard he retired 1 month before the olympics..? weird.. im thinking political
This is Bear
@dasboot47 he wasnt strong enough thats why left, hes not going to be better now after strongman training
In dem moment wo er so befreit schreit krieg ich zumindest übelste gänsehaut... :S
sport has weight categories. There's no fat guys in 56kg or fat girls in 48kg, nor are there in the higher classes, without going to superheavyweights.
yeah, but he wasn't severly hurt. It looked dramatic though.
@passwordresetisbroke Nice response, makes sense:)
ever heard about stomach muscles?
