I saw “Nosferatu” at the Castro Theater in San Francisco. It’s a movie palace from the 1920s. It still has an organ that rises up from the basement while the organist plays. Because “Nosferatu” is a silent film, the organist played all during the film. Which was beyond cool. I really enjoyed seeing a silent film in a theater from that era. Plus having the organ play live. It gave me an idea of how it was going to the movies before there was sound. 🖤🖤🖤

Great vid! While it didn't top The Lighthouse (not even a fair comparison, that movie is unbelievable), after seeing Nosferatu last night it's handily in the number 2 spot of Egger's movies for me. It was beyond amazing!!
IMO, The Lighthouse was a difficult first watch (it's very dense) and was much better when viewed a second time with subtitles. For me, it's: 1. The Witch; 2. Nosferatu and Lighthouse (tied, though they're quite different); 4. The Norseman. Interesting that 'The Norseman' was had the biggest budget but was the least successful of the four films. Too much studio meddling? Who knows.
Fun fact, Bram’s wife Florence was a very beautiful woman… in fact, Bram had to win her over from Oscar Wilde (maybe she was what we would call today, a worthy “beard” because Bram’s infatuation with Sir Henry Irving (for whom he intended the story as a play) was a bit “light in the loafers” for the day… 😏 so much so… I wrote the play 😎
Saw it last night, absolutely loved it. In my top 3 favorite vampire movies of all time now *edit to add that i really love the old world europe elements they used, it reminded me of the vampires in the Necroscope books by Brian Lumley (at least the first 3 novels from what i recall, highly recommend the series for any horror fans)
I was 18 or 19 yrs old when I managed to watch the silent film. I was very surprised how much I enjoyed it as at that point I hated subtitles but wasn't sure if I'd last the complete film but I did and watched it multiple times before returning it to my friend. I'm looking forward to seeing the 2024 version 😊.
I loved this film. True gothic horror at it's best. Don't go expecting jump scares, or deep horror. This is subtlety. Like a dream. Or a nightmare. Is it perfect? No. The acting is at times wooden and the pacing can be cumbersome, but I think it lives up to the hype as being an artful homage to a classic tale. I'll watch this again. And then probably again after that.
I liked it too. It's truly a disgusting movie, but I think that's one of the major goals of the film is to gross people out. Orlok is disgusting and gross, like a powerful tick.
Lookin forward to this! Herzog’s movie is genius tho … gonna be hard to beat, with a vampire that literally brings plague + rats with him + klaus Kinski is amazing …. But- enough of that! I’m looking forward to this one very much!!
I strongly posit that "The Lighthouse" finally made me appreciate Robert Pattison as an actor (I was/am not a fan of the "Twilight" series); it was one of his best performances. Defoe: He's always good-a solid pro, always, IMHO.
I went to see the movie yesterday. It was longer than I expected, but I loved the little references to the original throughout the film, and personally I’m happy to see a vampire movie that doesn’t portray the vampire as a boyfriend/love interest. That trope has been worn out for me. Also Lily-Rose Depp was fantastic.
The fact it took that long before actually making is a blessing😭 Nosferatu needed this cast(2024)!!! Bill Skarsgard was amazing, Nicholas Hoult amazing, Willem Dafoe amazing Ralph Ineson amazing even Lily Rose Deep &’ Aaron Taylor Johnson killed it!!
No; they didn't. Not a good performance in the entire film. Completely formulaic and melodramatic. I'll admit that LRD is creepy looking, but better suited for Wednesday Addams.
It just came out today in California, both my horror loving adult kids gave it a 6 out of 10 and an 8 out of ten, but I do t care I’ll see it in a couple days. I’m a big fan. You can also buy the “Script” Robert Eggers new book. Fascinating ❤
Me n my mate are going to watch this camping at my grandads lakes, on my phone if we can't get it to run through the tv. That'll be good atmosphere wise, im a shed by lake and empty fields.

Love the in-depth video on the behind the scenes! I found it strange that Eggers went so far as to say you couldn't see Bill at all in the performance. It's a good performance no doubt, but it's very clearly Bill in the face, if you'd seen him in any other role you'd recognize him as Orlok. Again, not a bad thing, but a little misleading to imply that the makeup and performance goes THAT far, it sounds like how people describe Heath Ledger's Joker who did seem to disappear under the makeup and performance.
Here's the fun thing about Corvin Castle! This castle actually has ties to Dracula, too. Vlad the Impaler was held prisoner by John Hunyadi inside Corvin Castle for seven years before he was able to regain his title of Prince of Wallachia for the second time. Seeing that on the screen and knowing all the lore with Dracula, Nosferatu, and Vlad the Impaler just made it SO MUCH better. 😎
I am really looking forward to seeing this new Nosferatu I was a fan of the original one from 1922 and am so pumped up for this one it’s a film that I think people and myself are highly excited to see I can’t wait to see Bill Skarsgard as Nosferatu
I’m really glad Lily Rose Depp is in this. I saw her in the Icon and she was genuinely the only good part of that show. That script was garbage but she clearly did the best she could with what she got which you can see in some very sad scenes that her character has. I’m really excited to see her in this film. I have high hopes.
Nicolas Hoult plays a role of Renfield in Renfield last year (alongside an older, senior star Nic Cage as Dracula), and now, he plays a role of another victim of vampire, Hutter. Not to be pigeonholed as an actor who plays a victim, he proceeds to follow it up by playing a villain, Lex Luthor in the new Superman live-action! Wow!
I have seen the movie in proper way : At Dolby Vision theater. It was recommended by Nosferatu cinematographer Jarin Blaschke. And the movie looks glorious! Atmos sound really makes everything sounds better.
Skarsgard delivered the performance of a lifetime. I could totally see how he trained in Mongolian throat singing for this role, I actually thought how similar it sounded. There's a quality about his voice that shakes you to your bones it's so deep and rattling.
Such a masterfully crafted film. People going in expecting an adrenaline fueled, “scary” movie and an original story and that’s it, you’re going to be disappointed. This is a mainstream art film essentially. The cinematography, sets, costumes, sound design and acting were all 10/10. It’s really more of a creepy, unsettling and atmospheric movie than it is “scary”. And if you’ve seen/read Dracula or any of its adaptations, you essentially know this film’s story. You see this movies for the experience and to see what a true visionary director is capable of. I wasn’t really a fan of Eggers until I saw this last night. Not a Dracula or vampire fan either. But this film is amazing.
What is your favorite Robert Eggers Film?
I love All 3!!!! But what he and his DP Jarin B did in The lighthouse to create atmosphere , is what motivated me to get behind a camera!

Cinematic history, go and see it in the cinema folks. Don't miss the opportunity.
I donated plasma right before watching the movie with a friend of mine, so it was weird being kinda loopy from having a needle sucking blood from my arm for an hour before watching this film.
I loved it. It was like watching a 2+ hour long death metal video.
Love how you dropped your own voice an octave when talking about skarsgard dropping his an octave
@@whatsthestoryhere I'm glad someone noticed it 😅
I wish my local ‘art theater’ would show the digitally restored 1922 Nosferatu on the big screen…
@@edstein5642 same. That would be sick
This new adaption was so amazing!! I loved it!! ❄️🩸
Saw the film today.
An absolute gothic horror masterpiece. It’s like a glass of wine when the flavour notes keep getting more complex over time after the initial sip. Best horror film of 2024.
Awesome video, thanks for all the info in a succinct format. Best video about the film I’ve seen.
Just saw it. Incredible
Same. Love it
The movie was PHENOMENAL though. I really like Eggers' film style. The Northman, The Witch, Nosferatu... Cannot WAIT to see more from him.
Ngl that was probably the smoothest transition to a sponsor ad I have ever seen I didint even realize I was watching it until it was already over and by then it was to late to skip so props to you for outplaying me friend😂
Appreciate it 😅
@ Np also I just watched the film in the theater today and that was the best movie I have ever seen
I love 💞 this and I feel comfortable about Bill and Lilly in this !
the carriage scene was so incredibly eerie and beautiful
Even though I knew it was Bill playing Orlok, I spent the entire movie doubting that was true. An unbelievable performance from him.
This movies’ visuals were astounding, sound design as well. Masterpiece
Cannot wait to see this!
Saw it last night, absolutely loved it. In my top 3 favorite vampire movies of all time now
*edit to add that i really love the old world europe elements they used, it reminded me of the vampires in the Necroscope books by Brian Lumley (at least the first 3 novels from what i recall, highly recommend the series for any horror fans)
Every damn movie he makes..
I love them.
Yes Northman was just a reimagined Conan The Barbarian..
And I love it.
It’s just Viking hamlet
@@Jaebird2the viking tale is the original story, hamlet is an adaptation of it
Thank you for the video it's great. I'm excited to see good cinema like this in the theater. It's very thoughtful.
More movie previews and trailers should be in this format. This made me want to go see the movie.
Can't wait to see Egger's Noserferatu, especially now learning that the story changed his life, because his story The Witch changed my life.
So good thank you for this!!
Thank you for the info I needed! I wondered how many rats they trained! They were amazing!
Saw this yesterday with my dad and we both loved it!
This the best count or look has looked by far!
We watched the movie in Delft, Holland last night. The 1979 was shot in Delft. But I adore the 2024 version 🖤🖤🖤
Great job and research on this video
Masterpiece All Around. Absolutely Incredible.
The most impressive thing about this video.. is the Segway into the sponsorship ad… SUPER CRISPY!🙌🏾
@@AMoja-tk6kx haha appreciate it 😅
'You will obey, that is my council"
Yes my Lord
I went to see the movie yesterday. It was longer than I expected, but I loved the little references to the original throughout the film, and personally I’m happy to see a vampire movie that doesn’t portray the vampire as a boyfriend/love interest. That trope has been worn out for me. Also Lily-Rose Depp was fantastic.
This looks incredible
Right?
The fact it took that long before actually making is a blessing😭 Nosferatu needed this cast(2024)!!! Bill Skarsgard was amazing, Nicholas Hoult amazing, Willem Dafoe amazing Ralph Ineson amazing even Lily Rose Deep &’ Aaron Taylor Johnson killed it!!
No; they didn't. Not a good performance in the entire film. Completely formulaic and melodramatic. I'll admit that LRD is creepy looking, but better suited for Wednesday Addams.
I sorry I'm gonna disagree.. Lily Depp acting was Meh.. I could tell she was "acting" if that makes sense. I really wish they chose someone else
The john malkovich and William dafoe nosferatu in 2000ish was awesome.
I remember that movie, but have forgotten its title ?
@@jamesbarbour8400shadow of the vampire
@Newaza235 ah - brilliant - thanks so much ! 👍

@@TheGeoDaddy welp Oscar wasn't too into the fairer sex if I remember my history right😎
Got to see it on 35mm last night in Chicago,, i've avoided watching your video until after ive seen the movie,.. but wow, loved it.
Great video, thanks !
Yeah the moonlight was CRAZY!!!
It was a masterpiece. See it in a theater
I am really looking forward to seeing this new Nosferatu I was a fan of the original one from 1922 and am so pumped up for this one it’s a film that I think people and myself are highly excited to see I can’t wait to see Bill Skarsgard as Nosferatu
👀
I’m really glad Lily Rose Depp is in this. I saw her in the Icon and she was genuinely the only good part of that show. That script was garbage but she clearly did the best she could with what she got which you can see in some very sad scenes that her character has. I’m really excited to see her in this film. I have high hopes.
Amazing production
Went to see this amazing movie christmas day with my wife and we both loved it. We are planning to go see it a second time on imax soon as well.
They're making this story even more terrifying
Nicolas Hoult plays a role of Renfield in Renfield last year (alongside an older, senior star Nic Cage as Dracula), and now, he plays a role of another victim of vampire, Hutter. Not to be pigeonholed as an actor who plays a victim, he proceeds to follow it up by playing a villain, Lex Luthor in the new Superman live-action! Wow!
Love your videos man ❤️
Appreciate it! 🙏
Can’t wait to see this film. Shame Taylor-joy didn’t make it into the film, she is such an intriguing on screen presence.
Enter The Stars has an interesting look at this film
