Do you know what’s also ultra-processed, 99% of meat and dairy alternative products. Including the “vegan” ones.
Okay but so are hotdogs, chicken nuggets, and store bought burgers. Not arguing but it’s the same thing.
@@kioloup YES AND ALL ARE NOT GOOD FOR YOU!
Most people who talk about the health benefits of a vegan diet do not eat significant amounts of alternative meat and dairy products. Really they're just saying you should eat more vegetables because the bulk of what they eat are beans, peas, lentils, mushrooms, nuts and vegetables.
So what? You wanna feel better abour yourself? You know vegans dont only eat that stuff 😂
@@unknown6390I’m vegan and I don’t touch that rubbish, it would defeat the purpose of being vegan, it’s not always extreme animal activism. For me for example it’s just living more healthily, the animals too yes. But 10 years ago being vegan meant that your consumption of processed food was at a minimum. You left out all the obvious unhealthy choices and focused on eating real foods.
Who’s gonna tell her that crystallised fruit and jams are also preserved with sugar?
Yeah, but those aren’t ultra-processed (usually) that’s just how jams are made. She’s referring to the adding of large and unusual amounts of sugar in order to raise the shelf life of a product.
@@AnonymousRUclipsconsumer she didn’t say that though. She just said sugar. It is not too much to expect specificity from journos
@@lateformyownbirthmy thoughts exactly. She could have easily said "Like added sugars." Instead of just "sugar".
cancer , roll the credits!!
Don’t you hate when the healthiest person gets cancer. Yet the guy that smokes lives trouble free for a long time.
That’s it folks the basic American diet is killing us.
Bullshit.
Reject modernity, return to hunting and forging
Is America the only country with crisps, doughnuts, and lollies?
They stated at the beginning it makes up more than half of the calories in the American diet. Not that they are the only place that has them, just that the u.s. went overboard with them.
Can you understand your own language?
The only country where those things are considered food.

Why the heck would cheese be bad for you??
@boohere2 not cheese, but "processed cheese" that made from cheese, preservative, colouring, emulsifier, and other food additives
Can we study the ingredients that the American citizens eat on average yearly & compare it to the other countries.?
yeah compare it to the processed lasagnas and "beef" patties that contained horse meat all across Europe. as if processed foods are an American thing. they're still garbage, but the FDA control what goes in the garbage pretty well. better than what slips into European processed brands, and especially better than the literally inedible ingredients you'll find in food somewhere like China
I'm so thankful my wife has put in the time to learn what is and isn't healthy, and taught herself how to prepare delicious, healthy meals. Feels like most of the food industry is just trying to addict, poison, and kill us...

Food Matrix? Did she make that lmao
... Processed food is worse than cooking by yourself.
Do you know what is worse than that? Starvation by the millions (if your food is not shelf stable that means there's less food, and that means starvation...)
Imagine thinking people in developed countries would starve just because their doughnuts don't last a week sitting on the kitchen counter, grow a brain lmao
@@nthedecent7717fast food is ultra processed, and it’s cheaper than groceries where i live
Proccesed food is not the only shelf stable thing on earth. Humans have been preserving food for thousands of years. Just because your hydrogenated chips can last several months doesn’t mean it’s better than dried fruits that also can last that long 😂
@@hibai8486 Are you implying that using extra processing steps somehow makes the food cheaper to produce? Do the hydrogenation machines also double as Central Bank bill printers? 😂
@@hibai8486 fast food isn't cheaper than groceries unless you're talking about an upscale store, learn to cook
Bad definition. Americans have a lot of “Ultra Processed” foods in their “Kitchens at home” 😅
good thing not everyone is a nutritionist so we can enjoy life.
Avoid!!!
Isnt hydrogenation another way of saying adding water😅
No.
No. It means turning unsaturated fats into saturated fats. Eg: vegetable oil turned into margarine

is that supposed to mean that a very regular baked loaf of bread from a bakery with no preservatives can be considered "ultra processed"?
Y'all realize that in the produce isle a god damn tomato has stabilizers added to it. Everything is "ultra processed" by your definition then.
I'm grateful for RUclipsrs. Quick and simple recipes with live demonstration in the palm of your hands.
Yeah we know that, That's why they are labeled as snacks not food for nutrition
Pastaaaaahh.... Hoommeeyy..... Shaoodhaaa.... Fhhooddd....

How is a burger ultra processed?
One Pringle bottle is 3k calories
Look at them trying shift the goal post
Why is it that we have to beg for for that doesn’t kill us? Or pay 2x or even 4x the price for organic food that still has sketchy farming methods?
I love how this comment section is probably the only example of American unity in recent memory and it’s to bash a stupid vid lol
Added sugars * christ. There's a distinction from sugars being part of a recipe, e.i jams and such. And just blatantly adding sugars in effort make something shelf stable. Which as far as I'm aware, added sugars are more so to make things tastier, there are other things used to raise shelf life.
Sugar doesn't make thing shelf stable. If anything it just causing it to go bad faster. Also a lot of finished goods are processed so they can be eaten right. Like would you just go out to the field get some wheat and eat it can call it bread, no. Everything is processed to a point and some things are enriched to add in vitamins and minerals into it cause it lost so much during a process like White bread which it's flour is enriched to give the bread something more then just the germ of the grain which is a lot of energy but very little vitamins and minerals that when out with rest of the grain. They add in some sweeteners into whole grains or even low fat milks cause the would not be very palatable otherwise. The same goes for Milk alternatives also.
That footage of sticking a syringe into a donut sure is helpful for people with eating disorders! /s
It’s also a great way to try to make something automatically seem scary and sinister 😊
You upset that its going to put people off donuts??
Everything you get from Walmart
But... But... IT'S DELICIOUS.
😂 that's why I can't stop eating chips (crisps)
This is America. We don't care.
Processed or Ultra processed food is not bad for you, it's certain ingredients that is bad.
Is soup or meatloaf a processed food ?
Canned soup or canned meatloaf. If you make it yourself from fresh ingredients it is not processed.
@@commonomics we need another word then. Like altered or depleated
@@commonomicsactually if you make it yourself that would still be considered processed. The difference is you processed it instead of a manufacture.
Tbf, processed foods don't automatically mean bad. Charcuterie is basically processed food, but they're still pretty healthy to eat for example. For my rule of thumb, if foods aren't meats, fresh, or canned, eat them with caution

Remember when Ultra Processed Foods were introduced as the healthier alternative because the food companies would get rid of all those unneeded contaminants, allowing the individual to enjoy a healthy meal that tasted good? So, how is Salisbury Steak unhealthy for us again?
it got cheaper and less safe to manufacture, because it makes more money that way
@@holmesholmes.8784 But, the manufacturing process was already almost fully automated, how is it less safe? Pour in Meat Products, get fully cooked Salisbury Steak. It got cheaper because they are not using humans to manufacture it, meaning fewer injuries, and fewer insurance claims.
The bad thing about this: now some people thinks they are eating the lesser-evil food “processed”. It’s better to call them all as processed no matter what so people avoids both.
Idk i like canned tomatoes cause im a lazy fella, having tomatoes in november isn't natural but I like pasta.

Eat from farms as much as you can, and you'll be WAY better off.

I've been building a farm from nothing for 4 years. If I eat it I grew it unless it's flour, pork, or beef due to space constrictions.

@marthajean50 You'd be surprised how little 2 acres is when you make your income off it. I don't know a grain farmer here but I do trade for meat pretty regularly.
Canned tomatoes are not processed.
The issue isn’t ultra processed foods it’s laziness. As long as you don’t sit down all day, don’t over eat, and you workout, you’ll be fine.
you can’t just eat like shit and expect a workout to fix everything
@@jordanjenks2369 Well like I said you can’t over eat either. And if you just workout and don’t over eat, you can eat Popeyes and McDonald’s every day for every meal and you’ll be fine. Oh, also only eat sugar occasionally, like once per week max.
fitness is 70% food
It's not laziness, it's what you get with the food you eat to do things. As my stepdad once told me, _garbage in, garbage out_ .
Ultraprocessed food aren't gonna get you anywhere and they're also not worth the price in weight anyway.
No, that's soooo not true. I know you probably WANT it to be true, but it's not.
@@ElkaPME Not in my experience as long as you don’t over eat you won’t gain weight. The issue most people have is over eating. Most people eat till their full, don’t do that, eat until your not hungry.
Obviously you shouldn’t only eat sugar or chips, but you’ll be fine if you don’t eat fruits or vegetables for for multiple years and live off fast food. Aslong as you eat in moderation and workout you’ll be fine.
The only thing I’d argue garbage in garbage out applies to is sugar. Sugar is evil don’t eat it.
A poor attempt at villifying a food group. Just because something has more chemicals than usual doesn’t mean it’s bad for you.
That could be why cancer patients are getting younger🤔️
