- gorgeous vintage Sonola just arrived yesterday - this is my first session with it last night, on a tune of mine I wrote a few months ago...we had a pretty dry winter with plenty of sunshine

I love the sound and feel of this accordion - although probably I'm a bit heavy-handed with it here...it's a very different feel/action to my Super King...looking forward to becoming more closely acquainted with it in the coming months :-)

sonola SS4....that is a fine sounding accordion..I have the rare and impossible to find SS6....that is the original one from Sonola, comparable to SS4 , 1.5 lbs heavier, chamber and two middle reeds....incredible accordion
the mics aren't especially good, but they are plugged into reasonably ok pre-amps. I use MOTU 828mkIII. I like the mics being on the instrument too, especially the bass-box...it captures much of the resonance experienced when playing the instrument that you don't get so much as soon as you're more than a couple feet away. Mic info is on my channel page. And hey - thanks again for suggesting I speak with Guenadiy :-)

What are you using for microphones and amplification? You seemed to have discovered the optimal solution.
The accordion sounds marvelous..
The music is beautiful..by the way.
Cathie - that is a great sounding accordion (perhaps a 2 and 4?) and your playing is very nice indeed. You have a great relationship with the accordion - Its the conduit for the music that comes out of you and the accordion doesn't seem to get in the way. I think that is particularly hard to do on the accordion. It's a pleasure to listen to your playing.

one disadvantage to having the mics on the accordion rather than on a stand is: they really pick up the bottom end of the instrument noises - especially on the treble keyboard when the keys hit the 'bed'. So I 'roll-off' from around 80Hz on that mic

what model of accordion is the sonola? Does it have a tone chamber? Is it new?
hmmm...I have the monitors on because I record the audio direct to the hard-drive. I'll try and remember to send the monitor to sleep mode next time I record a video

This instrument is not for sale. The SS4 model is old; you can occasionally find one for sale in the USA and the UK
