Starting college for graphic design. Self taught years ago and want to get better. Do not buy a iPad for school. Many schools want you to learn how to use the adobe softwares. I have to pay $10 a month. After graduating hopefully starting my own business and can use any program I want to do my designs. Great video! Just talking to fellow students.
@@atomic_artist1 I wouldn't get one right away. You will be learning how to use adobe programs on a laptop or pc. Ipad is great for sketching which will be requaired in art courses, and taking notes.
@@runawayjet3373 thanks for the advice I wasn’t really sure on what to do or get as I got given my a level options after everyone else and wasn’t really able to ask
I’m about to start studying graphic design. What would be the main tech item? The iPad and pen. Or a laptop with the Wacom drawing board? For now I will need to choose one over the other.
Yayy, This video has been long overdue!! Thank you so much for sharing your graphic designer's essentials. 🙏💜💜 I'm so excited lol. Also could you link the wall tv monitor that you have mounted on the wall please xx
Thank you for sharing your tech stuff :D I totally need to buy (need as in want... not need. But the want is great) the card reader adapter - I am so sick of the whole process of transferring pics via bluetooth or via the computer.
From far you have the best graphic design 📹 on you tube, I have external Toshiba hardsruve there so good, plus I treated myself to Asus Zenbook Pro dual screen laptop convenient for graphic designers. I need sone inspiration can you show any examples of your portfolio if possible. Thanks
Hi Alice, you mentioned that you outsource for your printing just wondering who you use? I’m exploring some options and would love your input! Loving the videos 😊 xx
Hello Alice, thanks for sharing with us the gadgets that you use! 🤩Not sure if you will see this comment but I was wondering if you use the paintbrush/blob tool with the Wacom tablet to create shapes in Illustrator? I have been using my mouse for this software and mainly use the pen and curvature tool to create shapes. I can't imagine how the pen and curvature tool would work with the Wacom tablet, so I assume it makes more sense to use the paintbrush/blob tool? I hope it makes sense! I'm looking to apply to an art college next year so I wanted to purchase the tablet that you use :) Using the mouse on illustrator takes way too long haah. Thanks Alice!
I use track pad at home but mouse at work and I prefer mouse way more ! + I have iPad Pro but idk weather to get graphic tablet when using illustrator 🤔 seems like it would be way easier
I still dont understand why anyone gets a mac when the price comparison to PC gets you more power. Guessing the closed architecture is why? Less fiddling.
Just preference. Its over price but the Mac OS for me is worth it since I don't do gaming anyway. I and a lot of people just really like the Mac Os compared to windows
Purchased a HP laptop with touch screen for when I start graphic design in college in October. Best purchase ever! Cheaper then a MacBook and it’s two in one.
@@mishimaro5423 I now regret the purchase lol. The battery life sucks and it doesn’t run adobe software the best. Did at first. Go with a Alienware if looking for a laptop.
I work as graphic designer for more then 10 years, and I strongly disagree. I imagine people, who only start their way in graphic design watch this and get impression, that they absolutely NEED all this highly expensive stuff and feel down, because they cannot afford it. But all of these are definitely NOT the MUST! All you actually must have is Adobe Creative Suite and computer with RAM amount enough for it to work without glitching. And notebook with decent RAM will actually cost more, because you can extend your RAM in PC later, when you'll feel it's not enough, but with notebook you can't, you need to buy it already with RAM amount in advance, that is a lot heavier on your budget. Besides, working on notebook is a lot less comfortable, dragging objects around with touchpad is already disaster itself! I don't want to offence you, I like your channel, but don't want this profession to look that expensive and exclusive, because it's not. Designer can get all that shit later, if they want to, but it's def not a must have. If you can't afford them, you can work just fine without them!
Thanks for the comment. I never mention or imply that you must have ALL of these things. I said myself I started off with just my laptop and Wacom tablet. Everything else has taken years to build up.
overall i do agree with what you said, but universities expect you to have a decent laptop and some sort of drawing tablet unless you’re happy to trace everything with a mouse which can be quite hard. though i do agree that you don’t need to most expensive “top of the range” hardware and software, the industry standard does tend to be Mac as they are less likely to go wrong due to having no moving parts, so if you think you can afford to go for something a little bit better that will last you a while i 100% think a macbook may be a good idea

So should I not get an iPad because I’m starting a level in September and am not sure what to get

Oh my god way off topic but you’re face makeup is so flawless what foundation did you use??

How did you add the little wind fuzzy on your g7x? I have the same camera and would love to add the same thing!
It's called a micro muff, you can get them on Amazon I think! I DIY'd some velcro and fluff
Do you have an updated video like this one? Would love to see it if you do. It's amazing how many things you need when running a business from home.
Hey! Can you please recommend a good printer for graphic designers ?
Thanks for sharing!

What do you use to clean your iPad Alice? And do you have a screen protector / stand for it also ? I just bought an iPad Pro :)
I just use a micro fibre cloth and the screen protector is just a basic one from amazon :)
Alice Thorpe great I’ll order them now thank you. Was also thinking of ordering an adjustable arm stand so I could clip it to my bed or something :)
I need a cable organizer, my (almost) OCD would be so grateful! 🤩🤣🤣

Very nice 👌
My name is Rhiannon an I am thinking of being a graphic designer can I do it on a iPad 12.5
Which is better for graphic design? McBook or Ipad Air?
Mac
Awesome video Alice ❤️❤️
Thanks George 😊
Love you thanks
yup, always a laptop :] best ever investment, and I still have it with me for 5 yrs already.
your links aren't working :(
They work for me on multiple browsers 🤔 make sure you don’t have an ad blocker stopping them maybe?
Hey Alice! Love your videos :) I'd love to see a video of your recommended books for learning design? ^^ Have a lovely day!
Great idea! Though I'm most self taught from online tutorials rather than books :)
Amazing!!!
is it better to get laptop or computer?
If you don't like to sit at a desk for a long time, then get a laptop
We have the same laptop 😂😂people laugh at me .. 😢
Why they laugh?
Do you mind teaching me graphics

@@AliceThorpe but your title says MUST HAVE. Really the only must have is a sketchbook and a computer of some sort.

😂
There's a link in the description where you can see it :)
15:20 lol
all the things you don't use, you could sell and buy a newer ipad.
Everything I have I use when it’s necessary for the job at hand
Everything could be around 10k not that much
