    I'm 67 years old, within 2 seconds of seeing this I doubled it up to 16 and 100, so the answer is 16 % . I was in a shop sometime ago and the assistant (I would say about 25yo)serving me had to use a calculator to work out 10% of £99.95

    10% of 50 is 5 (too low)... 20% of 50 is 10 (too high) so the answer is between 10 and 20%...
    The difference between 5 and 8 (= 3) is bigger than 8 and 10 (= 2) so the answer must be higher than 15 and lower than 20%...
    Can you guess the right answer already?
    This is a downside of multiple choice questions: you can estimate the answer.
    Of course you can calculate the correct answer as well... x% . 50 = 8 so x% = 8/50 = 16/100 = 16%
    Or like this: x/100 . 50 = 8 so x/2 = 8 and x = 16%

    A long time ago they taught us a formula. R=p/b where rate is the percent described in the problem ,base is the larger number and p is the smaller number . P=br and B=p/r divide 8 by 50. 8/50=16%.

    simply use 100's so you turn 50 into 100 (50x2=100) so 8x2=16 so much faster and use the other math if the numbers don't give you easy multiple or dividable numbers.

    I had 5x10=50 and that 10 was 20% memorized in large part due to $ currency practice. 8 was close to 10, so I figured the 8 was a smaller number and therefore a slightly smaller percentage, and 16 was the closest answer choice. INTJ brain.
    Now, my Dad used to find errors in math texts and tests all the time (possibly using a similar technique to see that something was wrong), and he would go talk to the teachers, so you can’t always trust that method of test taking. For this one, it worked to just kind of see the answer, but clearly it could have been made more challenging.

    Even if you were bad at percentages, you could still use the process of elimination which you sort of showed here (with the 4% example) and We can use our basic knowledge of tens I guess( 10% and 20%) for example. We can figure in our head that 10% of 50 is 5, but that's smaller than 8, so it's more than 10%. But 20% of 50 is 10, which is greater than 8, so the answer lies between 10% and 20%. You could also go further (or skip and try answer C) since 32% is roughly 1/3. If you were to divide 50 by 3 you would get 16.67 technically, but quick math would lead you to roughly 15 which would at least tell you the percentage is still too high (as even 15 is greater than 8), so it can't be 32%. And lastly 44% is close enough to 50% that you can conclude again that roughly 50% of 50 is 25, still too large. So if you really didn't know how to do the percentages you could use this method to narrow it down but it would take longer. But by estimating what the percentages equal you can narrow down the answer (in this problem at least) pretty quickly and that's what is being showed, but in a more detailed manner I guess. But if you know how to quickly calculate values based on 10% increments it can make this go faster (10% of 50, drop the 0 so 5, 20% is double 10% so multiply 5 by 2 and get 10, too large).

    Yes I know my math skills suck
    50% of 50 is 25.
    50% of 25 is 12 1/2
    That puts us at 25%
    50% of 12 1/2 is 6 1/4
    Thats 12 1/2 percent
    Since 8 is higher than 6 1/4
    And the next highest choice after 12 is 16. Thats the correct number.

    2:01 this is a confusing question
    meaning the confusion is the purpose of the question
    8 is what % of 50
    after solving the number N will fulfill:
    8 = N × 50
    8/50 = N
    16/100 = N
    0.16 = N
    but % = 100
    so
    N = 16%
    VERIFY
    REPEAT
    50×16% =?8
    2×[50×16%=?8]
    100×16% =? 16
    16 = ❤ 16✔️
    SORRY....
    I am not thinking properly to ACCURATELY notate my steps.
    refresh...
    what is "%"
    as a good definition a % is a part of 100. 1% is 1 part of 100. 10% is 10 parts of 100. Probably a good way to think about % is pennies to the dollar. Typically (¿always?) sales tax is given in %. 3% sales tax is 3 pennies to the dollar.
    This problem is 8 is what percent of 50
    or
    8 pennies is what percent of 50 pemnies. Gotta normalize to 16 pennies to 100 pennies which is 16% of $1.

    Your math problem as worded in the caption started a heated discussion between my brother and I, as asking "8 is what percent of 50%" is not the same as the problem that you show in the video. That 50% could be of any possible numerical figure, so the correct answer wouldn't be 16, but an algebraic figure of a percentage of X/2, X being the unknown number. I really can't work algebra in my mind, but maybe the answer is X/16%, but probably not.
