Federer vs Nadal and Djokovic vs Federer are great in their own right, but I'd have to agree with you here. The only thing holding it back is the predictability of Nole vs Rafa on clay and hard in recent years. It is too predictable these days and you just no the clay king and hard king will beat each other on their favorite surfaces.
But it is a fact that Novak would have been way more fatigued than Rafa. This is the third decade that Novak and Rafa have been winning majors and masters. Crazy.
Hey Tahmid! Welcome back 🙂 Great analysis as always, I feel like Novak is going to take the record for most Masters 1000 tournaments. He's always going to be the favorite in hard courts, and given that 6/9 Masters 1000s are contested in hard court, he'll have a much better chance than Rafa to grab the record. Also, I really hope Karatsev keeps up his level & qualifies for World Tour Finals this year. As far as this year's RG goes, the only player who can possibly defeat Rafa is none other than Novak. That Rome final was very close (out of 191 points in that match, Novak won 94 & Rafa won 97). His backhand, return of serve, depth he's getting on the ground strokes is insanely good. I wish Rafa clinches this year's RG. I know many people get bored of watching the same player win again & again, but not me. The prospect of being next to invincible at Philippe Chatrier & tying the record of Samprass with RG alone is astounding, and I want to see it come true. Fingers crossed & hoping for Rafa to get it done!
Crazy how they've both won the same number of Masters in completely different ways. Rafa: dominating Monte Carlo and Rome getting 10+ titles at each, and showing longevity over 17 years. Nole: winning pretty much everything for 6 years, picking up multiple titles at every tournament.
If Nadal wins this year's RG, he will win 5 in a row. He has only done this once (2010-2014). It is crazy to think he might be able to do this twice, at the age of 35.
Hello Tahmid! How are you? You have been off for a long time, must be busy I guess. Now the RG is in the corner, I wish you will keep posting your videos about it. Stay safe!
Thanks Tamhid for the , grt to see you back. All things said and done , can't find Novaks post final press conference any where on RUclips. And the way I see Novak had it bagged if not for one or two unforced errors. Novak was ahead of him much of the match. And the media coverage of Novak is so biased and hateful.
not at all. when was he ahead for much of the match. talk facts dude. rafa won 1st set. means rafa ahead for the entire 2nd set and rafa missed a few chances to go break up in early 2nd set
@@vindukur100 So fact as per you is he was ahead much of the 2nd set and he lost 6-1, He won the 1st set 75 and last set 64 ..on what planet are facts valid?
I'm pretty sure Novak will be the leader in Masters 1000 race when all said and done. The race is on for Grand Slams where Novak has tough competition from Rafa. This RG if somehow Rafa loses will definitely put Novak in driver seat to be the leader of Grand slams as well. Chase is on💐😄🎾
Outstanding video as always. You’ve been gone for awhile so it’s good to see you back. Not sure that Rafa and Novak are into winning too many more masters 1000 events. I’ll give them both 42 by the end of their careers. Rafa has really never been into the weeks at number one race. Novak doesn’t care about that anymore now that he has the record. Therefore I think majors and year end number ones will be the goals that they shoot for from this point forward. Roger will soon be left behind. Rafa is the obvious favorite at Roland Garros. Nevertheless Tsitsipas, Zverev and Djokovic will be tough to beat. You can end up with a weak side of the draw if Rafa ends up on Novak’s side. Roland Garros should adopt a clay court formula. This will upset Novak fans the way we Rafa fans get upset every year at Wimbledon. Again welcome back young man. As you stated in the past your schedule is very busy. Therefore thanks for taking the time to make this video. 👍
brilliant analysis and well said! Its hard to see how Rafa doesnt break the slam record at the french open, but I do agree that the French Open should adopt a seeding system similar to Wimbledon! Potentially Rafa, Novak, Tsitsipas and Zverev (arguably the 4 in form players) could be in the same half
@@TahmidSalehTennisForum - 👍 With Zverev and Tsitsipas stepping up during the clay season it makes for a more interesting French Open. Nevertheless I’m still hoping for a Novak vs Rafa final. Don’t work too hard young man. Remember to take time to enjoy life.
If Rafa wins this French Open, im almost sure he ends up the most... The next gen is getting too dangerous, this year is probably their last year of domination...
The thing is that there have been a lot of clay events in the past 9 months, and a lot of cancelled hard-court 1000s (inc. Indian Wells twice). So, I think Rafa catching up was always on the cards.
Only way Nadal loses the french is that if he faces tsitsipas/zverev in quarters then dominic thiem (if he regains his form) in the semi's then djokovic in the final.
Hi Tahmid! You have to wonder if this could be Federer's last year now because what happens after Covid rankings? I mean, I think he continues longer in order to break Connors' two big records, but still. Unless Fed picks up around 2000 points from grass events and some smaller tournies, he will be nowhere in the rankings by the year's end. I hope he stays up there, but he could easily draw and go out to a tough player in an early round of RG or Wimby and that could be that.
Djokovic never makes excuses, but anybody who thinks that Djokovic was as fresh and energized as Rafa is deluding himself. Djokovic played 5 hours of very physically and mentally draining tennis the day before, and he was naturally not going to be as energized or fresh as Nadal. I am not saying that Djokovic would have won, but the fact that he lasted two and a half sets against Nadal under the circumstances is impressive. I think both old timers will be very confident heading into Roland Garros, and barring a major upset or injury, they will meet again at the French Open, hopefully in the final, assuming they are on opposite sides of the draw.
To be honest, the Rafa-Novak rivalry had become really dull. Rafa hasn't lost on clay since 2017 and Novak hasn't lost on hardcourt since 2014. in fact, it had been becoming more and more one-way traffic - Novak thrashed Rafa at AO19 and Rafa returned the favour at RG20. However, Rome this year saw the first really competitive match between the 2 since Rome 16 when Novak beat Rafa on clay (not counting Wimbledon 18 - grass). I really hope Novak continues this upward trend against Rafa on clay and Rafa turns a corner against Novak on hardcourt. I was surprised by Medvedev's performance on clay. Not sure if his COVID infection had anything to do with it, but he looked poor. I expected him to go to QFs despite the tough draws.
Speaking of numbers, I got some myself. While Djokovic and Federer have dominated to some extent at their favorite slams, there are several differences. Let's take a look at the winners of the AO, Wimbledon and the French Open since 2005 for arguments sake. Australian Open Winners since 2005: 05- Marat Safan 06- Roger Federer 07- Roger Federer 08- Novak Djokovic 09- Rafael Nadal 10- Roger Federer 11- Novak Djokovic 12- Novak Djokovic 13- Novak Djokovic 14- Stan Wawrinka 15- Novak Djokovic 16- Novak Djokovic 17- Roger Federer 18- Roger Federer 19- Novak Djokovic 20- Novak Djokovic 21- Novak Djokovic Consensus- A total of 8 winners outside of Novak Wimbledon Champions since 2005: 05- 07- Roger Federer 08- Rafael Nadal 09- Roger Federer 10- Rafael Nadal 11- Novak Djokovic 12- Roger Federer 13- Andy Murray 14- 15- Novak Djokovic 16- Andy Murray 17- Roger Federer 18-19- Novak Djokovic Consensus- A total of 7 winners outside of Roger Federer Nadal Open winners since 2005: 05- 08- Nadal 09- Federer 10-14- Rafael Nadal 15- Stan Wawrinka 16- Novak Djokovic 17- 20- Nadal Consensus- A total of three winners outside of Nadal. To add to that: - Despite Federers and Djokovics dominance and being the favorites, they always had competition and you felt like there was a chance they could lose. In contrast, there is a bigger gap between Nadal and other players on clay and therefore less competition than Federer and Djokovic had to face on their preferred surfaces. You just rarely feel a player can realistically beat Nadal in a clay best of five. This results in too much predictability and is not a good thing for tennis fans in general - Those few times that he legit could lose, he has always had luck favor him time and time again. 2013 semis net touch and bad calls by Pascal Maria, Nole being food poisoned in 2014, Feds loss in 06 Rome, Being saved by rain in 2018 vs Schwartzman, Thiems unfair scheduling 2019, Thiem 2.0 burning out in 2020, etc. - For whatever reason, clay and especially Roland Garros were tailormade for Nadals game. From his extreme topspin that works perfectly on those courts, his ability to run down everything, to him being such a freak of nature as an athlete, to his mental toughness, provides the perfect storm for him to have a huge gap over everybody - Despite Djokovic being a better all-around player and having similar mental strength to Nadal(which both cancel out), it is the advantageous conditions for the Spaniard that will always put Nadal over the top and provide predictable matches. This is why the French Open is much more boring as opposed to the other slams imo.
Oh please, spare me the 'luck' argument. Do you want me to mention every time Rafa has been unlucky as well in his career? He had an ankle injury that forced him to miss FO, WB & Olympics in 2004. A very possible GS and even medal missed out on. He also had bad scheduling in Wimby 07 due to bad weather and may have cost him the title that year. In 2009, his parents splitting up give him personal issues. Then he had a bad throat and didn't feel well at FO 2009, which meant Roger finally could complete the Career Slam. Not to mention also a knee injury that forced him to miss defending his Wimbledon title. Then, he got injured in the abdomen in USO 09. So that's basically a whole year of titles he potentially missed out on, even though he just broke Federer's dominance over the previous year. He then got injured during AO in 2010 & 2011 especially, where he was going for 4 GS in a row. And just when you think Federer is a bit on the decline, the rest of 2011 & AO 2012 happen, and Rafa has to now deal with a new competitor for his whole prime basically. But this is possibly the worst. When Rafa can become only the 3rd man and the youngest ever to win the Double Career Slam at only 27 years old, he gets a back injury and loses AO 2014 to Wawrinka, a man who he never dropped a set to prior to this event, and who he has only dropped sets to him in matches he has lost to Stan (7 sets in 3 matches). He could easily have been confirmed GOAT before turning the age of 30. But unfortunately, if, if, if doesn't exist...
Nadal is better on clay than djokovic is on hardcourts.that is the reason why he has dominated FO more than djokovic has dominated AO.one must also not forget that nadal has won 4 USO on hardcourts to 3 by djokovic.
