    Hey Tomas, thanks for this awesome comparison.
    It's freaking unbelievable how it sounds similar.
    I own studio monitors and good studio headphones, and of course I can hear the difference between the two (MKH 416 is a tiny bit smoother and fuller).... but I have to admit that after 10 seconds, I can't feel the difference.
    The only thing I need to know before ordering it is :
    Do the sensitivity /noise ratio are about the same? Did you need to pump up the input gain of your preamp to balance the volume between the two?
    Looking at the specs of both microphone, both companies aren't using the exact same technical terms, so it's kind of unclear to me.
    Since you made a good comparison between the two, I think you are the best person to tell me.
    Thanks a lot again!

      Apologies on the delayed response, I thought I clicked reply, but looks like I hit the thumbs up button. As far as adjustments for recording, I recorded these mics at the same input level with no post production adjustments. So they are extremely similar in sound reproduction.

    just keep in mind that the reason the 416 has been around so long, its because they are build like tanks and they deal with all sorts of weather extremes without problem.

    The Diety has much higher self-noise than the 416, which has virtually no self-noise. The Diety contains a simple Chinese electret condenser capsule mic element. Listen to both in a quiet room and you'll hear the Diety's high white noise in the background.

      It's hard to hear, but I listened it up in the studio headphones. Little dirty sound. Very quiet but can be heard. So bad, that there are no long space between the host's phrases, to check it more accurate.

    Did you try the old deity against the s mic 2? I recently bought the deity s mic 2 and when comparing ti to 416 the difference is night and day, so just wondering if the old one sounds different. thanks

    I'm hearing more of the room echo through the Aputure so it seems like less effective off axis rejection and when you turned them there seemed to be less off axis coloration with the 416 but then have to expect some differences.
    The 416 is already weak on picking up bass so it's off putting that the Aputure is worse on that score but for a vocal mic it won't matter much and as you say it depends where the end result is broadcast if they are going to compress the sound anyway.
    I picked up a great condition and pretty recent used 416P48 for less than a new Deity but in a while once they start appearing used on ebay they are going to be bargains.

    my plan is to have the Sennheiser plugged into the camera's XLR port through a pre amp does will the camera still be able to provide power and will it be able to record the audio or do i need an external recorder?

    Hey Tomas Please HELP!
    First of all, thanks for all your reviews. I watch them like a citcom addict! LOL
    Anyway, I just returned my Deity because it had A LOT of noise.
    Been thinking about picking up a Rode NTG-3 instead. What's your opinion on this mic?
    OR would you save up the extra cash for a MKH 416?
    I'm stuck between these two mics. What would you do?

  • @malikbagwala5677

    among a rode ntg4+, apurture diety and a sennheiser mke 600 what would you recommend

    • @TomasVillegas
      @TomasVillegas  7 лет назад

      Those are all so different and could be used in different environments. MKE600 if you want to record directly to your camera and Deity if you want to record separate audio. Can't speak on the NTG4 as I have never used one.

    • @TomasVillegas

      I'm a Sennheiser fanboy, so I recommend the MKE 600.

    • @AtomicusPrime
      @AtomicusPrime 7 лет назад

      Wait, that's a shotgun too... do you like the MKE 600 better than the Deity? I have the 416 now because of a deal I found that included the Zoom H6... I am getting into narrating audiobooks (main target) and voiceover... as well as other fun stuff... where do I throw my money?? I too like Sennheiser.

    • @AtomicusPrime

      side note... i'm tempted to get deity for the worst reason... it is same name as a bike component company that I use for stuff on my mountain bike... I guess there are worse reasons... maybe.

    Thank you very much! It's very helpful. Could you suggest a camera mic for the Ursa Mini 4.6k? Currently we are using a double system, but I just it as back up. Best,

    the 416 is a 40+ year old design aimed at all analog processing and tape recording, not digital. its over bright, has no bottom end. just about any mic will sound decent at 3-4" from the source. try that as 12 and 24"..... and the 416 is hardly the "standard" shotgun, its more like a generic term these days. there are a couple of great shotguns from schoeps and sanken that will blow away the 416.

    • @gotoddrun
