A lot of people seemed disappointed in your delving into the Hellenistic similarities to the Germanic traditions. I would disagree with those critics being that there is a wealth of information to be discovered by seeking out the nuances. Anyone seriously seeking as much objective truth about our ancestral spiritual practices should keep a patient and open mind.
I agree. Helenistic, celtic, hindu and various other kinds of practices like our own are actually sibling religions because we all have the same parent religion which is the ancient indo European religion.
The hanging from the tree reminds me of a scene in a 70s movie called “A man called horse”. The ritual I do believe is the historical ritual called The Sun Dance which Native Americans did. A wooden pole was placed and the participants who was seeking spiritual enlightenment would be pierced and tied to this pole where they basically hung for several days or so with no food or water.
The Sun Dance - Wiwáŋyaŋg Wačípi, was the most important ceremony practiced by the Lakota (Sioux) and nearly all Plains Indians. It was a time of renewal for the tribe, people and earth. The village was large, as many bands came together for this annual rite. Today The Sun Dance is a ceremony observed by the Native Americans of modern-day Canada and the United States to awaken the earth, give thanks, offer up prayers, and sacrifice for the greater good. It was, and is, among the most important rituals of the Plains Indians
Love your work as always. I'ld like to see more about the norns, and the similarities between them and the other Germanic religions, as well as the fates in Hellenistic religions.
Hands down all your theories are correct in my opinion! I think you’re on the right track especially with the similarities between Yggdrasil and the chakra. We discussed this previously and I remember in a previous comment to your previous video on the topic I also mentioned a constellation that was linked to Yggdrasil and Ashvatta. I think that was also a very plausible theory. Anyhow, yes Gram Hancock's theories might face some backlash but I’m glad someone else finds it fascinating and linked to Ragnarock 🤝🤝🤝 keep up with the comparative mythology streak because it's an amazing source of education for the masses. Keep on spreading the word. Thank you 😊
And thanks for that gorgeous Interpretation of the animals living in yggrasil and the chakren. I will study it with that background. Very interessting.
In regards to the white water I saw an image of the amniotic water breaking at the time of birth and coming out in a rush, making it appear white just like the rapids of a stream or river or waterfall
This reminds me of when I was walking through two different groves of the giant sequoias in California. I’m pretty spiritual but I wouldn’t say I’m Christian, I do follow teachings of Jesus, but I’m not seeking or into any “magic”. I remain open to many things since wisdom can be found in any belief, and it all ties together into a large tapestry of life, or a world tree. As I was walking through the groves, I could feel the trees talking. Yeah I know how it sounds, but I was able to tune in and listen, asking permission first of course. They had so much ancient knowing from those trees. What was more interesting was how one grove was very gentle, stoic and welcoming, while another grove about 5 miles away was very critical, abrupt and indifferent. Both groves allowed me some very old earthly wisdom. I was amazed that I was able to understand them, and wondered how I can relay the wisdom without sounding like a crazy person. So yes, Trees, particularly older ones, are very powerful and very chatty if you can hear them. ❤️
One thing I thought about adding regarding the "Yggdrasil being the human body", the realms being the Chakras from Hindu myth etc, is the fact that Ask and Embla (the two first humans given life from Odin, Honir and Lodur) actually are named after trees themselves. Ask=Ash and Embla=Elm. Great video, Hail Odin!
I once took some psilocybe with some friends and we sat around a fire can which was ornated with runes The longer I looked at these runes the better I understood their magic. Since then I have started using rune oracles to find spiritual guidance throughout my life The beauty of shamanism or spirituality is the fact that you're never "done" learning. Life's a process and we're its students.
There is a great book from 1979 by Nigel Pennick entitled 'The Ancient of Geomancy - Living in Harmony with the Earth' that ties traditions from all over the world regarding the Omphalos. It does a good job of making the case that everything is connected....
This talk of from the cosmos to the placenta has my brain repeating the words of Hermes Trismegistus, “as above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul”… I just found your channel and I’m so excited to dive in.

Very refreshing to hear about your research and knowledge about these subjects. I've been on a very connected spiritual path informed by nature since I was a child. When I first read about Yggdrasil it was exciting to me the deep connection between worlds that was revealed. It reminded me of the climbing tree in my parents yard that I spent a lot of time in when I was young. That tree was not a yew or ash but it was the tree that brought calm and a place to contemplate my connection to the planet and dreamworlds. I've been very drawn to archeological studies, fossils and geographical phenomena and love hearing about how our ancestors connected to the sacred life forces. For years I let that guide me. It is interesting know a little more about where my family is from and how we integrated those traditions into our American life. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and bringing people in this world a bit closer together.
I really appreciate your explanation, I once saw Yggdrasil, or the "World Tree" in a dream, at its roots were these sort of gnome spirits taking care of it as nutrients moved up from, and connected our world into the high realms, the branches of the tree were made of lifeforms from all over the galaxy and they were all glowing green, and where they ended was the greater cosmos. It had the intensity of a mushroom trip and I soon made a symbolic representation of it capturing its essence, and had it tattooed in the center of my chest

Imagine sitting in a chair at latitude tilt, so that your spine could be parallel with the Earth’s axis of rotation, but gravity would put lateral pressure on you, so that you would need to pick a direction for that. You might even have a way to adjust the tilt so that you could position the spine as orthogonal to the ecliptic, which would be really easy to do on holy days.
Also, you’re a tree, dipping your roots into each noun of your vocabulary, and every root is woven from the other parts of speech; and you’re pulling up the nourishment and you’re going to squirt sugar back into the soil, to keep it nice and warm; and then you’re going to bear fruit from your many many branches. im new to learning norse myth but when hearing you say about the carving into wood i thought of the creation of Askr and Enbla which sounded like a similar thing one with no past history as Askr and Enbla were the first the other sound the same but with the having to add ancestry to the being, again possibly suggesting yggdrasil is birth and the passing of genetic information
I've seen the videos, but I would love to learn more about Thor, Tyr, Skadi, Njord. I also would like to hear more about the dwarves. The wetting of the tree with white water. Could it be the breaking of a woman's water before she gives birth? The reason I pitch this idea is do to the fact that babies are born with a white film on them. Kind of like how we have water still on us from when we bathe or go for a swim.
I loved your channel when it was more about teaching great things about our ancient Germanic ancestors, and less so when it was more elitist American bashing etc. To be honest I’ve came back many times hoping to learn something new just to be exposed to clickbait, vain or childish themes. I’m glad you’re back to your normal style videos! You used to be more about united us as the sons of the Vikings, and Proto Germanics. That really started to get me into this revival of the old ways more.
This was good.. I gotta tell u, i had a magic mushroom once. (And once was ALL it took for me to never do that agn) But, in my trip, everything in my room turned into eyes ofcourse, and then i fell through a blue- glowing 6 sided gateway.. When i got to the other side, i was floating in space facing a GIANT tree (like the 1 in that Avatar film) Every time i breathed in, the tree would glow brighter.. It went on until we synchronized.. Next thing i knew, i was hanging from the tree like a fruit, it still glowed, brighter with every breath i took... I was 1 with this tree... It went on for i dunno how long, i was completely absorbed in this vision.. Then suddenly, i detached like a heavy ripe old apple . I wasn't quite on the ground. Kind of floating near the tree. When to my shock i began to hear what i can only describe as Vadic chanting from India.. Like how the sing the Puranas in a large group.. I looked, and saw a ghostly reddish geometric shape gliding around from behind the tree with THAT mantra sound coming from it... Then the ship thing stopped and turned twards me.. Came at me real slow like it was lining up to hit or eat me.. The tree and i were now OUT of sync at this point. And, i thought i might die. Then, i was inside this red crystal ship, and it was taking me around the tree with it. Chanting continues un interrupted...... I was in a meditative state, sitting in a crystal ship, flying around a giant glowing tree with Mantra chanting in full stereo.... I dont know what happened after that.. Since then though, i get things most people dont. Symbols, hidden meanings, that kind of thing... Had to share that..
Love what I hear and feel from you discussing this and had a thought being Pagan and a Goddess worshiper 🧹 and being a reformed Catholic don't you think it's interesting that in the Christian belief systems that Christ was on a wooden cross and his side is pierced with a sword 🗡️ even though he didn't do this if his freewill Weird but a thought 🤔 and your telling of the word is wonderful and such a blessing to me. Bless your gingerbread hearts. 🎃⚡🌙🌟🪄⚡✨💫🧹🎃🌟⚡✨
Im not Christian but cant help but pick up on the similarities of this description to jesus on the cross which is a tree. Sacrificing himself to himself, injury by a spear, died on the 9th hour, and journeying to other realms which could be an interpretation of raising to heaven. So funny how so many of these stories from different faiths are so similar. Perhaps they are interpreting their own version.
Astrologers equate Yggdrasil with the North and South Node. Midpoints between the moons actual position and center points of a perfect circular orbit. These two lunar points become symbolically a snake or dragon running through the center of the earth.
Hi! I definitely appreciate your insight on your studies and can trust you weigh things out a lot better then the majority I've seen in the RUclips world. I'm new ish to these studies and have had a few things pop up while watching this video. Is there lore on the yggdrasil catching fire? .. Possibly struck by Lighting? I wonder if the norns are trying to protect the tree from such fate. It triggers a symbolic riddle in me and I'll have to do deeper digging.
If anyone is interested in trying to "travel" drumming and water fasting. Sensory deprivation tanks or salt floats. I've done all of these. Some together or by themselves.
Various interpretations can be right, it's like the blind men feeling the elephant, there is a Truth and absolute reality, God, but it's not directly obtainable by the senses, you see His reflections in everything and that's how you learn.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaa, woo hoo. Thanks Micheal!!!! Frey, freyja, tyre, Eire, baldor. Please also talk about how and if plant and trees as well as animals have spirits and since are alive are possibly all going to the gods as well as the gods to them, since we basically worship nature and the earth that produces life. Unless I have this terribly wrong. Thank you bröder!!!! And unless someone can enlighten me on a better salutation to use, since I don’t know very much even though I’ve been Norse/Germanic pagan for two years, I will end with Skál to everyone, to your good health!!!!
The white water is associated to the mother's milk, which would tie in well with the placenta notions. There is a white tree in other mythologies as well.
Tyr for sure. And of course Thor is always a fan favorite. But no matter who you cover i am sure it will be awesome. And i greatly look forward to hearing your view on the topic. Stay safe and blessed be. And hail the Allfather and all his mighty children. May the always look kindly upon you.
an interesting explanation i have seen for the wetting of the tree or daubing it with white loam is symbolic of the liquid of sacrifice being spread on an idol or holy pillar. erick dodge wrote a thesis connecting the waters of the river gjoll with the three wells and the perennial "water of life" symbolized in ritual by various substances that could used for libation, such as milk, blood, semen, honey, or alcohol. this connects with some of the libation practices in the indo-iranian world as well as historical descriptions of liquid offerings to the gods. in the same way that the norns keep the tree alive, man keeps the idol, the community, and the world alive by splattering libations on it. if ever the libation were to stop, the tree would begin to rot. the dew of the tree reminds me of the alchemical flos coeli, the flux of the sky, which is the dew, and especially powerful after the spring equinox (could the four deer represent the two equinoxes and two solstices?), said to be liquified sunlight. if this same connection were present in the myth, it might connect the dew to the light of the celestial bodies, perhaps moonlight, the stars, or the sun, and thus connect honey and mead with these things. in the east as well, libations are often said to have celestial associations.
Did you know Ymir is still with us? The greatest of the frost giants of the north. The Arctic Ice Cap. It once covered all of Scandinavia, then when it retreated the first tribes of man claimed the land.
🙏🌲 EverGreen immortal. Hanging to a Tree or wood pole is universal. It was a vision quest ritual for Sioux Lakota warriors hanging themselves to a central pole, attached by their chests pierced by bones and to which they hanged extra sacred buffalo skulls. Buffalo is « god », a main manifestation for them, of the Great Spirit. The pain drove them to transe and vision quest, by piercing beyond the blindness of the ego, where the True Solar Self belongs hidden in the abyssal underground 🙏🌲
Like your video! I think there is a link between these fasting and hanging in the tree with Jezus. He was 40 day's in the dessert fasting. And he hang at the cross, to than come a live again.....looks to me to have the same origine....?
I'm more inclined to believe the Krakatoa eruption and the volcanic winter that immediately followed is the more likely explanation for the conception of Ragnarok in Norse myths.
I'm sure that a lot of Odin related stuff is about a science of inner evolution as is the Buddhist or Yogic paths(path could be horse in the Yggdrasil translation). Yggdrasil can be seen as your personality whits can become a more true individual as your evolution progresses in(a personal) Ragnarok, the elves as ancestors, Hell as narcissistic traits, most gods damned and so forth(goddamned😉).
I think Ragnarok has been the struggle with the Roman empire. The end of the World they used to know.... So I heard once. The Roman empire brought a strange and bad spirit. A spirit about Power and money. Not about knowledge and wisdom. (I don't think, that everyone has been nice and kind before, but the worths changed.) Although the German tribes fought back in huge historic battles between 300 and 500 after timechange... The spirit in our countries changed. The Roman spirit got a foot in the door, as we say in Germany. Over the frankonian Area to the Celts with their druid system... Read about Bertha and aethelfred (I think this was his Name) in round about 565 after Timechange. It is all historic... And the fights and battles run till now... They have only a new face.

im new to learning norse myth but when hearing you say about the carving into wood i thought of the creation of Askr and Enbla which sounded like a similar thing one with no past history as Askr and Enbla were the first the other sound the same but with the having to add ancestry to the being, again possibly suggesting yggdrasil is birth and the passing of genetic information
Tyr......We all need a little more Tyr
I loved your channel when it was more about teaching great things about our ancient Germanic ancestors, and less so when it was more elitist American bashing etc. To be honest I’ve came back many times hoping to learn something new just to be exposed to clickbait, vain or childish themes. I’m glad you’re back to your normal style videos! You used to be more about united us as the sons of the Vikings, and Proto Germanics. That really started to get me into this revival of the old ways more.
Týr is due for a good video (called Lugh and Mitra elsewhere on the Indo-Eurosphere).
I vote for TYR
Happy new year man
Love what I hear and feel from you discussing this and had a thought being Pagan and a Goddess worshiper 🧹 and being a reformed Catholic don't you think it's interesting that in the Christian belief systems that Christ was on a wooden cross and his side is pierced with a sword 🗡️ even though he didn't do this if his freewill Weird but a thought 🤔 and your telling of the word is wonderful and such a blessing to me. Bless your gingerbread hearts. 🎃⚡🌙🌟🪄⚡✨💫🧹🎃🌟⚡✨
Im not Christian but
cant help but pick up on the similarities of this description to
jesus on the cross which is a tree.
Sacrificing himself to himself, injury by a
spear, died on the 9th hour, and journeying to other realms which could be an interpretation of raising to heaven.
Agreed I'm more about ancestors & vaettir.
I'd like your explanation of Rig (sometimes made an aspect of Heimdllr.
Like you I'm a dummy and I know it
Love the information..find it so interesting, but to be honest it helps your so easy on the eyes...😂 especially for us Vikings fans.😊
Tyr is a god I would like to learn more about
Various interpretations can be right, it's like the blind men feeling the elephant, there is a Truth and absolute reality, God, but it's not directly obtainable by the senses, you see His reflections in everything and that's how you learn.
Could the white water they water the tree with be the milk of Auðumbla possibly?
The white water is associated to the mother's milk, which would tie in well with the placenta notions. There is a white tree in other mythologies as well.
I'm reminded of the tree of life in Genesis and the burning bush in Exodus.
Tyr for sure. And of course Thor is always a fan favorite. But no matter who you cover i am sure it will be awesome. And i greatly look forward to hearing your view on the topic. Stay safe and blessed be. And hail the Allfather and all his mighty children. May the always look kindly upon you.
an interesting explanation i have seen for the wetting of the tree or daubing it with white loam is symbolic of the liquid of sacrifice being spread on an idol or holy pillar. erick dodge wrote a thesis connecting the waters of the river gjoll with the three wells and the perennial "water of life" symbolized in ritual by various substances that could used for libation, such as milk, blood, semen, honey, or alcohol. this connects with some of the libation practices in the indo-iranian world as well as historical descriptions of liquid offerings to the gods. in the same way that the norns keep the tree alive, man keeps the idol, the community, and the world alive by splattering libations on it. if ever the libation were to stop, the tree would begin to rot.
the dew of the tree reminds me of the alchemical flos coeli, the flux of the sky, which is the dew, and especially powerful after the spring equinox (could the four deer represent the two equinoxes and two solstices?), said to be liquified sunlight. if this same connection were present in the myth, it might connect the dew to the light of the celestial bodies, perhaps moonlight, the stars, or the sun, and thus connect honey and mead with these things. in the east as well, libations are often said to have celestial associations.
i would love more info on Ran herself
Did you know Ymir is still with us? The greatest of the frost giants of the north. The Arctic Ice Cap. It once covered all of Scandinavia, then when it retreated the first tribes of man claimed the land.
Happy new year all!!
I want to know more about baldr please!
Njord and scadi I think we know the least about them in a sea fairing context
I would like to hear more sea lore. I grew up reading Thor Heyerdahl's books about sea journeying.
I nominate Skaði. Idk if you already done this.. have good day
I have heard theories that Heimdallr is related to Yggdrasil too.
Do you ever think you’ll do a video on Estonian Taaraism or Maausk?
Like your video! I think there is a link between these fasting and hanging in the tree with Jezus. He was 40 day's in the dessert fasting. And he hang at the cross, to than come a live again.....looks to me to have the same origine....?
What's the name of the graham hancock doco you mentioned?
I'd love to hear more about Idun, Njord and Frigg. Happy Vetrnætr everyone!
I think Ragnarok has been the struggle with the Roman empire.
The end of the World they used to know....
So I heard once.
The Roman empire brought a strange and bad spirit. A spirit about Power and money. Not about knowledge and wisdom.
(I don't think, that everyone has been nice and kind before, but the worths changed.)
Although the German tribes fought back in huge historic battles between 300 and 500 after timechange...
YESSSS
I know not a god but I love to hear more about Surtr
From my mushroom experiences, Yggdrasil is axis mundi which is the gateway to spiritual realms. However, all can be true as well.
The Eddas, the Vedas?
siiiiiiiiiiiick
Hard to pick from all of them. Tyr for sure. freya, baldur.
I'd love to hear more abour Njorðr, though I know there isn't a ton in the literature.
Tyr please.
That's the fractal and holographic nature of the universe. Yes, same symbol seen in many different ways and places.
