Would you consider doing a video for women 60+ who don't want to look like their own grandmothers? Casual, wearable, comfortable clothes... Love your channel way up here in Canada!!❤
Trenchcoats hate me (as does limoncello, but that's a different subject). I have tried, honest. Nope. Leather bikers oh yes. Velvet blazers yes. Cardigans noooo. I guess clothes are a bit like cats: we don't choose them, they choose us 😮
I wish they would stop putting that extra layer of ruffles at the bottom of sundresses this year…I’m just cutting it off and stitch witchery it up….👀🇺🇸
Omg! This is why I love your content! You don’t buy into the old saying without self reflection. I was watching a channel yesterday for over 50 women. Her closet must haves are white button down, blazer, pencil skirt, LBD, heel pumps…. She was wearing a polyester crazy print tunic. I was like, are you joking? Many over 50 women are not in corporate job or are retired, why dress like a paralegal? I do have these items but they haven’t seen the light of day for over 20 years and probably never again (am retired). Over 50 women are changing life style, changing body, and easing into middle age. Those old staples are probably only good for attending funerals.
Yes - I’m 51 & stay at home mom and funerals are probably going to be the dressiest I get for the most part. And I still dread even knowing what to wear to those.
You 100% have to dress for your lifestyle! I think it’s also important to note that anyone who has worked a corporation lifestyle, and then left that lifestyle, doesn’t want to wear those things anymore 😃 I’m with you! ❤️❤️
Your essence is a real thing. I love seeing women in high-quality ruffled blouses, but I look ridiculous. Same with little Peter Pan collars or dotted Swiss.
A Polene handbag is on my wish list. I visited their boutique in SoHo in March, but they did not have the color I wanted. I will be going there again in September, so I will check it out at that time. I gave up wearing heels about 15 years ago. I am now 66 and comfort is my number one priority. Glad to see you state your opinions, but still offering an open-minded mindset. Thanks for your video.
I listened to every influencer on RUclips and bought a classic trench coat (it was not cheap) because I was told it was a wardrobe staple and I would be wearing it every day. Well. I live in California where the weather is always nice and it hardly ever rains, and the trench coat is basically a fancy raincoat. I think I wore it once when I was out running errands. People looked at me like I was crazy.
Omg! I just did that with the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. It came and I put it on and I thought- why? It’s going back. I’m retired and live basically in jeans. I’m more interested in elevating my jeans look. I’m going to concentrate on sweaters, sneakers and loafers and nicer tops and get rid of the cheap T’s that fill my closet right now. I bought a nice Tommy Bahama Aruba sweatshirt that is a classy sweatshirt. No hood; a little structured. Not sloppy looking at all. That’s who I am. I will have a couple of good, going out outfits but casual is me.
Oh no! I will say, a trench coat works great over a nicer outfit when a coat is too heavy and a cropped jacket looks too casual. That being said, if you have to force it, it’s probably not meant to be! ❤️❤️❤️
@@ANNAREID29 I need to amend this by saying that when I was younger (in my thirties), I lived in San Francisco, where the weather was always foggy & damp, and the summers were super chilly. The trench coat would have been perfect there, but alas...I live in Silicon Valley now, where it is always sunny and nice, even in winter, so it would be hard to find a day to try to wear it without it looking, as you said, 'forced'. On the other hand, my leather scuba jacket gets lots of wear in the cooler temps because it doesn't look forced. I would say that the black leather jacket is one of my must-have classics.
I'm not buying a beige trenchcoat or a camel-coloured anything. I know they're classics, but on me it's like watching a dimmer switch draining all the colour from my face. I do wish more influencers would make videos like this, being honest that we all have different shapes, sizes and colouring and that the classic "must haves" will not work for everyone - or only if you tweak it. e.g., maybe you need a navy trenchcoat instead lol.
Neutralizers!! Phew phew!!! Very Star Wars 🤣🤣I think you mean Naturalizers! I am with you on your thoughts on classics - I think we are on the same wavelength. Thanks for the laugh, you’re awesome!
In my option, so many of the Reiss blazers are so much more flattering than the Balmain blazer. I bought 2 on sale, couldn’t say a bad thing about them ❤
I can agree with everything you said Anna! I'm only 5'1" and most of those things you mentioned would just make me look smaller. At 52 years old I can't do anything more than 2-3" heels either!
The big tote is a good idea in states and countries that don't offer shopping bags. For this reason mine is never too heavy. I love this video. I wasted so much money on some staples. Your video made it clear that staples will vary from person to another. Climate is a big factor! I just moved from Arizona to Maine-LOL. My staples will be quite different now-LOL
Long cardigan are a staple in my wardrobe forever! When hey weren’t treading , wore them the 3 days of cold in Florida. So true with ballet flats, love a pointy toe regardless of the shoe. I have one pair , going to sell or give away. I’m your boho / high street girl, mix whatever you want ! I’m not been into labels for a hot minute, you know with age comes wisdom! 🎉
I've never been convinced that Classic means a specific item. To me it's about fit & proportions. Trendier items usually have exaggerated proportions ( very oversized/shapeless or extremely cropped/tiny for example) or excessive detailing that can date them quickly. If you know what cuts, colors, fabrics & proportions look best on your body, those are your classics imo.
I love your content!! You're always so fresh and insightful! I do own a Balmain black blazer, and let me tell you, I thought I felt just the way you did until I tried that baby on, and it casted a spell on me!! I own many blazers, but in none do I feel and look the way I do in that one. The craftsmanship is just impressive, and no other compares to it; but it's definitely an investment piece!
I love this! When I was recording this video, it occurred to me that I might be missing something since I’ve never actually given it a shot 😃 I believe you! It’s a very popular blazer for a good reason ❤️
I got a red tweed Balmain blazer from a discount website during the darkest lockdown days. It kept my spirits up. I used to wear it on the bike. One day an acquaintance asked me where I was going dressed like that. I said, to the grocery store, where else?? 🤣
I have about 15 button down n don’t wear them 🤷♀️No more heels n love blazers ,don’t wear them much either. Retired n haven’t learned how to shop for now. All I hear is striped shirts look good on everyone. I brought a couple had a picture taken wearing one n came home n threw them away 🤦♀️
When I used to work in offices, I would go out to buy a new blouse, and one day I realised that everyone of them was white! 😄 Now I prefer a blouse or shirt with a covered placket. But mostly I just wear long-sleeved t-shirts these days.
I don’t look good in white either! It’s mystifying bc everyone says white is the most neutral color possible. But I feel so washed out and I get more worried about stains. What colors do you wear instead?
I’m with you on the items your not wearing that no longer fit into your lifestyle! We moved to the country, I work from home, pencil skirts & closed high heels look great but I’d feel ridiculous in them out here next to the farmers😂
I do love classics, they’re my personal style. But, there aren’t any rules in personal style, wear only what makes you look and feel amazing. Essentials and basics are highly personal and specific, too. I don’t like many of them that are always on these lists: jeans, high-heeled pumps, structured, top-handle bags, black leather jackets, etc. I prefer other things, for a variety of reasons, so my essentials/basics are very different, but all within the general classic framework.
Such a wonderful video. You know that there are six basic style personalities (lots of branch offs from these of course) but that are taught to multi international certified image consultants like myself. You absolutely hit the nail on the head explaining why you would not wear the so called classics. Thank you Emma it drives me mad how many times I need to explain to my clients why those so called classics do not work for their personal style. Firstly look at the colours that enhance you. Secondly look at your body shape. Most important is to look at your style personality. Next is to look at your lifestyle. Last but not least, seek out a professional who can help you reach your goals effortlessly. Thank you Anna Xxx
I am with you on the black pointy toe heels! I hardly ever wear closed toe high heels anymore and so when I do I can't wait to take them off. Love my slides, sandals and sneakers these days!
Ah yes!! I feel like I’ve heard many people put loafers in this category. I will say, I felt like that about loafers for a while until I found a pair that fit amazing! ❤️
I agree with 99% of what you listed (I still love a long cardigan - winter and all, but I like the shorter ones too). Ballet flats are just hard, you have to be very thin with thin legs. They can also have kind of a juvenile look. Plaids are ok, but I never reach for them. Pencil skirts were always more work than they were worth, same with black pumps (also both are pretty dated I feel, even corporate is more casual/stylish these days). And not to be picky, and somebody beat me to it, but it's Naturalizer, not Neutralizer. Awesome video!
Classics are great, but, yes, I've avoided more than my share of them: white anything, pencil skirts, bucket hats, cardigans, polka dots and stripes. My look is monochrome, usually dark colors so my blonde hair looks even more blonde! Every person has to find his or her own "look" and comfort zone with clothing styles. I get the same old thing all the time. I have found what I like and I stick with it. I wear long sleeves year-round; I like the elegant look of them.
Love your videos! So agree on the large tote 👍. The thing with many trends- like the Balmain blazer- is that once everyone wears one- original or dupe- then we all look the same. I prefer uniqueness and appreciate more when others use their creativity and personalization. That creates a more interesting and artistic fashion statement.
I love pencil skirts and A-line skirts. Most of my work skirts are pencil skirts. Black, Navy, red, yellow, brown with polka dots, white etc. A knit top or a silky blouse on the top, pencil skirt on the bottom, that is my work uniform. Very put together. For shoes, I love block heels below 2.5 inches with pencil skirts, they look great and very easy to walk in. Not too many people dress like this at work these days, but this is my style and I love it.
Hello Sunshine! I am new to your channel and I am happy I found you. You are so down to earth and funny and you make it fun to watching your tips and tricks. Thank you for brightening my day in our heavy world.😊
I do love that style of blazer, I love all the buttons. Last year I found something similar that looked great with jeans and was excited to wear to work. That's when I realized I had a problem. I work as a software developer and the buttons on the sleeves scraped and clicked on my desk every time I used the keyboard or mouse. Not really practical for a desk job.
Personally, I've never liked clothes or accessories covered in logos, going back to the 80s when that first became a thing. I would literally take a stitch-ripper and remove labels from the outside of clothes, so the big logo tote was never something I would buy. The idea of paying extra to advertise a brand on my clothing is nonsensical. That's why the quiet style suits me better. However, I've also not paying extra for "if you know you know" brands, either. I don't know. If it's plain and well made, that's my thing. And living in the UK, this means I've reached the age of Marks & Spencer. I'm with you on the black high heels and pencil skirt - that isn't my life any more. And wearing cardigans instantly transforms me into my own grandmother 😀 I save those for loungewear.
If I buy something with a logo on it, like my Ralph Lauren blazers, I just remove them, too. Lots of them, like the little RL metal charm, come off with a snip. I don’t want the brands I buy to be obvious.🙂
Ooh - im definitely a flats person, specifically pointed toe sling back flats. I’m 6’, if I wear heels I absolutely tower folks, I’m also as clumsy as heck, I don’t wanna break an ankle!
I cannot stop laughing because I put EVERYTHING in my purse, and then it's so heavy that my husband ends up carrying it for me. I can't stop laughing. Water bottles, dental floss, a toothbrush, hair products, a comb...never once have I needed any of that stuff. WHYYY???
I would never buy a pencil skirt until i found a very casual one at Anthropology. They have patch pockets in the front. I have two colors now. I like wearing a fitted tank with them in the Summer and sandals. In the Fall and Winter, I will wear with a more fitted cardigan and boots.
It is for real! The only time I look ok in black is with heavy face paint in a dark dancehall swing dancing lol. A LBD without makeup does befit a grieving funeral attendee.
Depends on your profession. Black, navy, dark gray are staples. I'm in court and I've tried colors and don't get taken seriously. As for heels, fats when driving and bring my heels.
I had to wear pencil skirts, blazers and pump’s because I worked as a corporate lawyer. I am now retired. I still have a few items but I mainly steer away from classics now, for example I got rid of my tan trench coat because I hated that. But I did buy a bright green short trench coat with gold buttons that I love. Don’t know if the short length, bright green color and pretty gold buttons take it out of the classic category, but I do like it. I liked all of the styles you mentioned that you would wear instead. Great video, I enjoyed it.
Great video Anna! I agree with everything you said. Especially here in Florida, and I'm south Florida so you know its warm almost year round. I don't own any of the items you mentioned because I have no use for any of it. I'm sick to death of logo's so I'm loving the quiet luxury trend. Got rid of my LV Neverfull a couple years ago and haven't regretted it once! (But did keep a few more subtle bags that I love) By the way, I'm currently looking at a gorgeous Balmain bag that is a smaller tote style and the price is ridiculous good compared to LV, Gucci, etc. I'm moving in the direction of no obvious logos and just beautiful, high quality items now.
Love this video Anna! You are so right! I also don't like white button up shirts or plaid shirts on me. I think it's the collar, anything with a higher neck or neck detail of any kind just does not look good. I've been tempted by the Rails plaid shirts at the Anniversary sale though. 🥰
Anna, I come for your style sense, but I stay for your honesty and humor! 100% agree w/ your list and your advice to "you do you". I'd like to add I've never been a LOGO bag girl bc my attitude has always been -- if I've paid you "Mr Designer" ...$XXX to own your purse, Tshirt, eyewear -- now I'm expected to be a walking advertisement for your brand? I think the pro-ballers, movie stars, etc have it right. "Pay Me".
I agree with everything you said. I have the same in my closet and I don’t wear them because they don’t look good, don’t make me feel attractive, and our styles change. I have 2 pencil skirts I have never worn….. and I kept them because we get brainwashed we should have them. And they’re great, just not on me. I love the look of pumps, just can’t wear them. Love your channel ❤
I believe the plaid you like is called "window pane" plaid. I love "Duke of Windsor" plaid. The classic fall , winter shades of grey's and black plaid. I could see you with a Duke of Windsor plaid vest over a white t shirt, jeans and your black flats.
I have been a stay at home mom for the last 12 years so I think my corporate work wear days are definitely over. I miss them though, was one of the things I liked about working in an office. I liked pencil skirts when I could fit into them. Now my wardrobe has to be based on comfort - housework, school run, grocery shopping mainly. I’m quite OCD about even the most casual clothes and even used to get stressed thinking about what to wear grocery shopping because something was always ‘off’. I’d get v irritable about going. I spent so much time trying to figure out a solution watching videos like these and finally came up with solutions that are working for me. In my current age and stage anyway. I am dreading having to up date it all over again when the next phase of ageing makes me feel as though it no longer works which seems to happen every few years. Anyway it is such a relief not to have to think so hard every time I get dressed now I have a few basic ‘rules’ to follow. Regarding those expensive blazers I would never have gone for one, too expensive for starters but they look way too tight and uncomfortable. You’d have to be super thin to feel comfortable in one.
I can’t do the pencil skirt and heels. I have an hourglass figure, very busty, and wear glasses. No matter what top I wear with them my husband said I look like a naughty librarian lol. And he’s not the only one to mention that to me. I just can’t hahah.
Trench coats. Love them on others and just feel they look strange on me, plus I am not able to find occasions to wear them. 🤷♀️ Thanks for the Uniqlo finds!!
I really love this topic and how you talked about why these items don't work for you. At times I am tempted to buy a white button up shirt because everyone keeps saying that everyone needs one, but when I think through it it isn't a good choice for me- I live in a very casual part of the country where it's either blazing hot or raining, I don't find button up shirts comfortable, I gravitate away from wearing white every single time.... And it's really nice to hear someone in the know say that it's ok if it's not for me.
I’m retired from the corporate lifestyle- still do taxes at home. I don’t even own a pair of sweats. I love blazer’s with jeans OR trousers/skirt. As for heels - only on the dance floor.
I’ve sworn off of large totes for the same reason.. they are so easy to fill, and I ended up needing massage therapy to combat the shoulder pain..just absurd. Now I travel lighter
Great reflective video! Im 5ft tall and curvy. So many things don't look good on me. But yes eventually the perfect plaid, or the perfect sweater length will surface. Lots of my items from 15 or 20 years ago have come back in style, and they fit me nicely again. The trends are guides, not absolutes
I used to be anti-black pumps too until I found a silhouette and material that doesn’t feel corporate. The Stuart Weitzman Anny pumps are my go-tos and they are incredibly elegant because of that V on the toe box, and the pointed toe isn’t too severe. I also like patent and suede for evenings - I do agree that traditional smooth leather pumps look corporate. Unfortunately I think SW discontinued their Anny style (which is a mistake imo!) but it’s still possible to get online via some outlet shops or secondhand. However it’s worth looking into SW pumps in general - they are typically very sleek and comfortable (for a pump)! I also love long cardigans haha, and shorter ones too! Just depends on the proportions I’m going for. But I agree with you on so many other items, especially the black pencil skirt!
Loved this video! ❤ I always decide what is classic for me and ignore the rest. I am not a fan of black pencils skirts but I did wear it when I was younger. An a line skirt is a better fit for my body type so I gave it away. Still kept the black heels but the heel is 2 inches high so I can walk in these. FYI the brand Polène is indeed French and pronounced like Polen 😊. Bisous from Montreal! 😍
I agree with most of these, but my goodness on the black pencil skirt. I don't work in corporate but wear mine with flats and sneakers and really "dressed down", and get compliments all the time. It's a knit fabric so maybe a bit less stuffy, but I think that maybe a different fabric other than suiting fabric makes a great deal of difference as to how you can dress it. I gave up on pumps in any colour and have never felt more "me" ... definitely not a wardrobe basic for everyone, and yes to the slingback, (especially the Chanel cap-toe, block heeled one) but not to the kitten heel! They bunch up my calves and I can't wear them for extended periods of time. Anything logo bedecked is a no-no...I feel like the brand should be paying ME to advertise their brand on MY bag. A tote is needed for busy people. I appreciate a roomy structured bag with zero logos. Polene is ah-may-zing. Great video!!
I used to love canvas totes because I brought my iPad everywhere. Now I bring just my phone and a slim wallet, I use mostly small size structured leather handbags (no larger than 8x10). My outfit is usually on casual side, a well made polished bag elevates the presentation without me putting on face paint.
I bought three blazers this past year and haven’t worn any of them. I watch my young grandchildren frequently and they just don’t work for me…but they look so cute on you!
Living in the country in UK Plaid is worn much of the time - especially in coats and Jackets. What is important is where the plaid was made and what wool was used. Traditional plaids are water repellant and effective against cold. What is important with plaid is pattern matching in the garment, I would never buy plaid which did not pattern match. Good quality plaid garments are expensive.
I feel the same way about skirts. If it's not above the knees, it's not happening. I really enjoy skorts. I think they can look dressier than sborts, sometimes.
Short skirts nowadays is a no no due to new body -now all the length I can get to elongate and if poss a slit up to knee or max 10 cm over the knee. If I had Annas legs would do short it until I was 110 y old! If you have the legs go for it! Looks so good!
Hi Anna great points🙌 i dont need just black basic pencil skirt. I do have Chanel suit, from 2012 spring, which probably my favorite collection of all times…and even its pencil, its so much more to it 😜. Now i do love cardigans long, short, mid length. Mostly short ones. But this year got 2 others one is very cocoonish mid length, great to wear with slip dresses, in the SF fall/ winter, and another one floor length, in neutral color, very thin, great for those outfits, that are little bit risque 🤪 no super high heels for me either. I am looking to invest in kitten heels. I did liked from gucci, the nude ones, has some sparkle and gg’s all over, but i think very elegant ones. Love ballet flats, have Chanel black ones for years. Great to wear with maxi form fitting dresses, to make more casual and also great with mini dresses, it gives more elegance vs more sexiness with higher heels. Have a blessed day🙏💗
Oh MAN- I'm so happy that you gave a shout-out to Poléne! I just LOVE their bags. I also love Loewe, but I feel like Poléne bags are every bit as unique & well-made, at 1/4 of the cost! Personally, I just can't do plaid (unless it's flannel pajamas)- there are so many flannel shirts that look adorable on the rack, but they make me look like Paul(ette) Bunyan. ☹️
Thank you on the ballet flats! I have been waffling on buying and they just don’t look good on my feet. Loafers look much better. I think it’s the vamp length that makes the difference
I’ve never been a ‘latest trend’ person! And I love the classic styles! While I admire innovation in clothing, I cringe at someone who is trying too hard to be stylish! Strips are beautiful on so many women, on me, NEVER! However, I have always been a lover of polka dots and pinstripe! As we age, we find certain styles that always bring the best to our life, and if our lifestyle changes we adjust to our situations! I swore when my children were babies that when they were out of diapers I would NEVER haul around hail around another huge bag! And I’ve kept my word, ever after becoming the caregiver to a great grand child! There are always alternatives and innovations!
I have nude and black pumps, because I do work corporate. I also have kitten heeled “pumps”. It’s “Natural-izer ” not neutral-izer. I’m your classic style dresser with trendier accent items. I do have some moto-style jackets and I don’t know if those are dated or not. So, I’ve held onto them JUST IN CASE.
Hi Anna I completely agree on the bags with logos. So ugly and tacky to have loud logos on handbags. Unpopular opinion but I loathe LV as a brand and find the hand bags awful. I prefer Prada all the way as the craftsmanship is amazing and logos tend to be very minimal-definitely a classic brand. Love your content and thanks for being so funny and helping us ladies stay up on our style game! ❤
Not as unpopular as you think. I’ve never been a fan of LV bags either esp the monogram and checkered prints. I love love love Loewe, Celine and BV though even before “quiet luxury” was a thing.
I agree with the gaudy logos. So tacky and hard to style. Plus its just stupid. I remember when MK came out with "the tote bag" and I thought it was so dumb to have that printed on the side of a tote bag.
I bought a cute plaid shirt at the Goodwill -- to wear while painting. I have a lot of painting to do. This is a thin weight, and should work well to cover up my arms, protect me from paint splatters, and when I'm done with it in a few years, I won't hesitate to just toss it. Ballet flats: I tried those and I have a wide foot. They just don't work for me. What does actually work for me is men's size leather loafers. I found both of them second-hand, one pair in black, one in dark cognac. They are my go-to shoes when it's too cold to wear sandals and it's not time yet for waterproof boots here in the Pacific Northwest. **edit** Interesting that several comments have said no to loafers! We all have to find what works for us. I have a whole wardrobe of men's wool or leather blazers from second-hand stores that I use as my uniform, along with cashmere sweaters and jeans or men's trousers and my trusty tan Burberry trench coat in the fall and spring.
I retired from corporate America last year. I have always hated a cotton button up shirt, especially white. They turn my longish hair into massive snarls. I don’t wear blazers much. For me they feel restricting. Ballet flats are not very comfortable. I like shorts, skorts, skirts and dresses in summer with ribbed tanks, cotton tees and sleeveless. In winter my staples are knitwear, short jackets, joggers and some jeans. I know what the fashion community wants me to think i should wear. I am not buying in.
I watched a gal showing her Chanel, Prada, Ferragamo, and some other luxury brand black loafers. They are all thick or lug soled with metal hardware. I like loafers but only the ones like men’s, thin leather sole and classic penny or tassel style; not loafers weighing 4lb and impossible to achieve heel toe stride.
@@hotchicsf the classic Gucci horse bit leather sole loafer is one she doesn’t own. All her loafers are the thick rubber sole type. If i ever buy one pair of expensive loafers it’d be the Gucci one.
Loafers are a category on their own! I find it difficult to wear lug soles too. I have committed to the lighter weight ones and I’m happy to live there! ❤️❤️
I had a large tote and I had everything in it. You would have thought I was preparing for a catastrophe disaster!! I was having trouble with my neck and arm and went to the doctor. I was telling him about my pain, and he said hand me your purse. I did and he said this is the cause of your pain. Stop carrying such a large purse.
I love watching your videos! You are so funny!! I lol when you were talking about having a large tote/bag and filing it with crap! Lol, that was me when I owned them! Lol!
Hi Anna!! I’ve been away for awhile, so subject to my friend’s tv and RUclips…SO GLAD TO BE BACK FOR YOUR FALL TRENDS!! You are talking about shoes and I’m pretty sure you meant to say you discovered a pair of NATURALIZER kitten heels that were super comfy…?? However, you actually said Neutralizer! I hope that helps! Thanks and looking SO forward to 5:30 the Quiet Luxury video! Can you recommend the best places for deals on these items, as I am on Disability, and most all are out of my range!! I’m in a small Canadian city with very few second hand or vintage options! Thanks again, Jordan. 💖
I don't like white button down blouses, large totes, or pencil skirts. I do like blazers and nude and black pumps, but I rarely wear them.😐 Btw, I love this video!
My life style is jeans 👖 so I can wear T-shirt to button up to cashmere, blazers or denim jacket to leather, boots to runners to slides. This style suits me and my life style and I rock it well
Large tote: I think it depends on what you are doing. They are great for the beach and shopping. When I lived in Europe you had to bring your own bags, and totes worked perfectly. I think you are right about the logos. You literally spend a ton of money to advertise for companies that make millions. I agree that you look good in windowpane prints. Again, the long cardigan is situational. You have the figure for cropped cardigans. Most people don't. If you like pointy shoes, then you will love bunions. And you know that if you have been to a foot doctor. They are really bad for your feet.
I love these types of videos. I LOVE pencil skirts but they don't fit my life anymore. When I worked in the corporate would they were a staple. But, now, I just don't wear them. I've tried on the Balmain blazer several times. It is LOVELY but it looks terrible on me. The shoulder pads just look insane on my small frame. And, it's way too formal for my current casual lifestyle. Not everything works for everyone and it's nice to hear people actually say it.😇
I personally have a very elevated classic wardrobe. That said I feel you have to have the type of silhouette that can pull it off. I cannot wear anything oversized or relaxed, not even slightly relaxed. I end up looking like I am wearing my mothers clothing. Perhaps the reason you don’t like black and prefer nude shoes has more to do with you having a very muted coloring. The black looks harsh and separate on you. I have the same thoughts on nude shoes over black. I have a high contrast coloring. One last note, I adore my Balmain blazer and you hit the nail on the head, if you ever try it on and feel the quality of the fabric and how it fits like a glove, you’ll have to own it. It’s worth every cent. Perfection…
I have to agree with your comment regarding the Balmain jacket. Try it on and see how you look and feel. I also have one and the only reason I don't wear it often is because it's quite dressy and I work mostly from home.
Would you consider doing a video for women 60+ who don't want to look like their own grandmothers? Casual, wearable, comfortable clothes... Love your channel way up here in Canada!!❤
Yes please do a video for us over 60 who don’t want to look frumpy. I actually love classic dressing
@@donnatyler3251 YeSSSSS!
Well, both of my grandmothers wore cotton dresses in small prints a la 1930s/1940s movie working-class grandmas, so I'm never going to look like them.
Yes would love a video for the older women. I am 72 but like to dress well and look well turned out.
YES!!!
Trenchcoats hate me (as does limoncello, but that's a different subject). I have tried, honest. Nope. Leather bikers oh yes. Velvet blazers yes. Cardigans noooo. I guess clothes are a bit like cats: we don't choose them, they choose us 😮
Haha! I love every bit of this 🤣🤣
That is a new way for me to look at what works and what doesn't in my wardrobe journey.😁😁
Shorter trench too?
I loathe argyle and argyle loathes me.
I’m over trench coats and big Dad sneakers
I see other women in plaid and think “that’s so cute” I try and I look like a lumberjack 😂 I just can’t pull it off 😂
Yep! Same! Lol you and me both! ❤️❤️
Love plaid, but feel like I'm playing dress up as a parochial school girl. I need to work at it 😆
Your essence is a real thing. I love seeing women in high-quality ruffled blouses, but I look ridiculous. Same with little Peter Pan collars or dotted Swiss.
I love plaid, but they never look good on me. Not even plaid scarves look good on me.
I live in SoCal and made the same mistake, bought a mid length trench and a cropped trench. They are resting in my closet for over 10/15 years by now.
I know exactly how you feel. I think the long cardigan is our answer to the trenchcoat.
So agreed. Beige trench looks so sad on me. Red one looks so much better. I went with red.
I have a vintage 100% wool Pendleton blazer with gold buttons. It is awesome and was the virgin of current classic blazers.
My parents owned a shoe store, I think it’s natural izer. They sold this brand and they were ALWAYS comfortable.
I came to check the comments to make sure that it’s not Neutralizer 😂 thank you! Love you Anna!!
@@breegrams I wore Naturalizers for years. I thought maybe Neutralizers was a new brand!! Love you, Anna!!! ❤
I bought 2 on sale, couldn’t say a bad thing about them ❤
I have blazers from Reiss as well, love the fit and quality
I can agree with everything you said Anna! I'm only 5'1" and most of those things you mentioned would just make me look smaller. At 52 years old I can't do anything more than 2-3" heels either!
Same! 4 inch heels are limited to about 4 hours… per year! 🤣🤣❤️❤️
You should do a balmain blazer try on vid
I got a red tweed Balmain blazer from a discount website during the darkest lockdown days. It kept my spirits up. I used to wear it on the bike. One day an acquaintance asked me where I was going dressed like that. I said, to the grocery store, where else?? 🤣
I use body skimming knit cardigans instead of boxy blazers. They seem to work better with my oversized chest on a short body.
This was great! Not everything is for every body, The white button down - I buy them but don't wear them. I don't look good in white.
I’ve heard people say that before. Button downs I feel like people either have 10 and wear them all or have 1 and never wear it 🤣
I have about 15 button down n don’t wear them 🤷♀️No more heels n love blazers ,don’t wear them much either.
Same 🫤
I don’t look good in white either! It’s mystifying bc everyone says white is the most neutral color possible. But I feel so washed out and I get more worried about stains. What colors do you wear instead?
I thought the ballet flats looked super cute on you!!
I’m with you on the items your not wearing that no longer fit into your lifestyle! We moved to the country, I work from home, pencil skirts & closed high heels look great but I’d feel ridiculous in them out here next to the farmers😂
Agree with so many of these! Ballet flats make me look like I’m walking on stumps-and I wear size 9!
Loved this video! One classic - a shoe, that doesn’t work for me - loafers!
Someone else commented the same thing! I think it’s a common sentiment! ❤️❤️
Me too, I will not wear it, ever:)!
Loafers are it for me. I had 3 pair for years and can count on one hand how many times I e worn them.
What about a white handbag? I avoid whites also, but I just love a small white leather handbag.
Really appreciate the more relaxed look. Retired and coastal areas more casual. Keep them coming Anna!
I agree with all your items, especially the Ballet flats. I have never owned a pair and never will.!
Thank you for brightening my day in our heavy world.😊
Polene bags r super! Pronounced pol- en. 🙋🏻♀️❤️
Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️
Lol but I bet you looked amazing while doing it! ❤️❤️
This has happened to me with some of my favourite jackets! I have to wear them on the days my office mate is WFH
Classics are totally based on where you live - and most of all your own personal style.
Always! ❤️❤️❤️
I will not Ever own a blazer, button down or heels!!! I worked in scrubs for 25 years...retired to jeans, shorts and work out gear. ❤
Love this! ❤️❤️❤️
Could’t agree more to what you say!👍🏻👩🏼 This is soo true!
Love all of this! Sounds like you know your own style ❤️ love the comment about cardigans 🤣🤣 I feel the same way!
I feel as we get older that black is becoming a no in the wardrobe. It feels harsh , as you said. Too much contrast.
You’re looking great!!
It is for real! The only time I look ok in black is with heavy face paint in a dark dancehall swing dancing lol. A LBD without makeup does befit a grieving funeral attendee.
Agreed! I like it in some cases, but it isn’t a 100%, all the time winner anymore ❤️
Depends on your profession. Black, navy, dark gray are staples. I'm in court and I've tried colors and don't get taken seriously.
As for heels, fats when driving and bring my heels.
I bought the Captains Blazer from Banana Republic and I like it so much more than the Balmain…although I do still have mine! Love your videos!
I love my BR Captains Blazer, too. The Balmain is too fancy, it would look so overdone. 🙂
Great video; really liked that one. I’m so with you on the ballet flats-just hate the way they look on me. Disney Princess look great on them.
I drool over the Alexander MacQueen blazer instead :)
I also live in Florida and last winter bought a cream long cardigan. It looks great with jeans & cream cowboy boots when a light cover up is needed.
I feel the same way about collars or high necks. I just don't like them and they make me look uncomfortable. The feeling is mutual.
Thank you!! Yes window pane is what I like!! I’ll give the more traditional plaids another go… in a couple years 🤣❤️
The tote was good when I was going to the office. Now I’m down to a small crossbody
Yes great for taking to an office! I would still weigh that thing down tho 🤣
I loved my corporate career wardrobe so much, I loved looking my best everyday.🙂
I can’t do the pencil skirt and heels. I have an hourglass figure, very busty, and wear glasses. No matter what top I wear with them my husband said I look like a naughty librarian lol. And he’s not the only one to mention that to me. I just can’t hahah.
Me, either. I end up looking like I'm "advertising." Even a simple summer tank top and tailored shorts look "come hither" on me.
As a reverse triangle it delights me to chuck all the black slim bottoms
Another amazing video! Thank you! 💖 The brand Charles and Keith have some incredibly good looking hand bags and shoes with prices starting around $50.
Love Charles and Keith! ❤️❤️❤️
Charles and Kieth is a Singapore brand! Love from Singapore 🇸🇬
Pearls are supposedly a classic , but I find them to be quite ageing
Trench coats. Love them on others and just feel they look strange on me, plus I am not able to find occasions to wear them. 🤷♀️
Thanks for the Uniqlo finds!!
I feel validated!! Blazers don’t look good on me so I’ve stopped trying to make it work.
Neutralizer...Naturalizer...😂😂love these sling backs, I have these in black and ivory!!😁 Love your content!!😁
Did I say Neutralizer 🤣🤣🤣
Yep. 😝
That was fun! I agreed on some & disagreed o others. I don't really do logos in general
Love that you live in Florida as I am in Louisiana AND you wear a size 10 shoe!
But I agree with you on so many other items, especially the black pencil skirt!
i agree on the totes with no logo or hidden.
Love this! ❤️❤️❤️
Longchamps make really good bags!
I agree with many of these items but especially the big tote! These days it’s just a simple cross over or camera bag ( most likely from Tory Burch) ❤😊
Boring
@@katemiller7874 then don’t watch.
I love this, Susan! It sounds like you’ve found what works (and what doesn’t) for you and that’s the most most important! ❤️❤️
I’d love to be able to wear loafers. I have a very high instep so I just can’t get my foot in! Low cut vamp is a must for anything on my feet.
Love this! Fashion is there for our entertainment, style is what we figure out about ourselves to look the way we want ❤️
I mostly agree with you, but I have to point out that the Gucci horsebit loafers are beautiful and super comfortable. Well worth the money.
😂 I share your sentiments regarding the big tote!
Lol that would definitely be me too! 🤣🤣
You look stunning today. And I agree with what you say - I hate when someone says I have to have THIS piece in my wardrobe
I have a navy Polene Backpack
Beautiful and timeless
I don't like white button down blouses, large totes, or pencil skirts. I do like blazers and nude and black pumps, but I rarely wear them.😐
Btw, I love this video!
My life style is jeans 👖 so I can wear T-shirt to button up to cashmere, blazers or denim jacket to leather, boots to runners to slides. This style suits me and my life style and I rock it well
That blazer should have a shawl color. There is absolutely nothing elegant about a notch collar
Treat yourself to a Goyard tote and you’ll love, love, love it for yrs!
Both of your flats looked cute on you.
I love my frumpy look
I love these types of videos. I LOVE pencil skirts but they don't fit my life anymore. When I worked in the corporate would they were a staple. But, now, I just don't wear them. I've tried on the Balmain blazer several times. It is LOVELY but it looks terrible on me. The shoulder pads just look insane on my small frame. And, it's way too formal for my current casual lifestyle. Not everything works for everyone and it's nice to hear people actually say it.😇
You look great on this video, your hair looks wonderful! I agree with this subject, having retired I have to pick and choose my classics.
Love this video! No flats for me . ❤
❤️❤️❤️😘😘
