Update 6/25/2021: I feel it’s important I clarify my position on GSP and those affiliated with it in light of recent events. First and foremost, I stand with Paolo and the other victims. I debated taking this video down, as I am immensely hurt and am compelled to re-examine the message of the series. But I came to the conclusion that GSP is-and has always been- a group effort with an immense amount of love put into its creation. While recent revelations may have ultimately put a blemish on this series-at least for me-I still value GSP, not as the work of one man, but as the work of a collective striving towards acceptance and a brighter future.
I totally agree despite what happened i still love GSP. This series is made by groups of people not just JM, though it really broke my heart when i heard the news
ohmygod thank you for making this video. i’ve loved gaya sa pelikula ever since i first watched it but i never got a chance to talk about it bcs i didnt know how to put my feelings into words. i was also scared of how other people would perceive it. but ur video just perfectly encapsulated how i feel abt the show. i got goosebumps while listening to you. you’re easily one of my favourite channels now! thank u ❤
i really think the better translation to "Andito ka lang pala." is "You were here all along." instead of "I've been waiting for you." but idk, it was one of the producers who did the translations and i'm sure the whole team talked about it. i just feel "You were here all along." gives better context? because Vlad (at least as far as we know) didn't promise to wait for Karl but to see him outside, should the opportunity arise.
Seeing as I don't speak Tagalog this was super interesting to read!! I had no idea that there was an alternate translation to Vlad's line and I think that gives it even more meaning. Thanks for sharing!
@@Pastellyn translations are not always literal because people behind the show are concerned that non-Filipinos may misinterpret what's been said due to cultural differences. unfortunately some translations are inaccurate or veer away from the context of the scene the way Filipinos understand it.
What I like about this series is parang ako yung nagsulat sa sobrang relatable. Advise ko lang sa mga magsisimula palang manuod ng BL series, na wag unahin ang "Gaya Sa Pelikula" kasi baka matulad cla saken na laging hinahanap ung standard ng GPS.
Dude your analysis and review gave me literal chill especially at the end. thank you for making this and please please continue making more of these type of contents.
Oh my gosh... I was not prepared to be moved to tears. Well said! It is deeply touching. Hiding is NOT living. We need to share our passion for movies and other things so that our world will become better. Indeed, there are many people like you. I'm one of them. I love movies. I love symbols and motifs. I love making the world a better one. I may not be able to change the world, yet the world can't change me either. With educated individuals who are willing to make an effort and "come out", the world will gradually change. I'm grateful that you can verbalize and articulate so clearly what I think. Keep sharing please!
Seeing as I don't have a community tab yet I suppose I'll ask here: Which video would you like to see next? 1. Tonhon Chonlatee and Toxic Masculinity 2. Reimagining Thai Dramas as Songs From Taylor Swift's Folklore 3. The Gifted Graduation review Thanks again for watching 💕💕
Thank you for this video😭 i'm glad a video like this exists. I hope a lot of people will be able to watch this and the series to, the message of the series is too good to confined. It has to be out there, like how Karl should feel free out there💕 even the other characters are beautiful, they are flawed and that makes them human.
The ambiguity of the ending is really a blessing in that people can read many different meanings to it. I appreciated the fact that you explained why it had a personal resonance with you. Such a great insight!
This is one of the best and beautiful review I have seen and we have same fave part where in Vlad is ready to leave and Karl is hoping Vlad will turn and hoping Karl would call that part hit me
Nice observation. I watched other reviewers and some of them points out that Paolo Pangilinan is a newbie and would have given the role to a more experienced actor. Seriously I didn’t even notice Paolo (Karl) is a newbie. He’s just so effective that I don’t see him as a newbie actor. Thanks for sharing.
Oof I honestly agree especially considering the last scene in episode seven. He was absolutely fantastic in GSP and I can’t wait to see him in future roles! Thanks for watching my video!
@@Pastellyn Thanks for doing this. You’re such a good narrator. I also want to add that I wouldn’t want to have the actors changed the other way. I can’t have that happen. It’s not Karl if it’s not Paolo playing it and same goes with Ian and the other casts. I’m going to watch your reviews on the other shows too.
When i heard these kinds of reviews of Paolo being a newbie in acting I always tell friends who watched it and have that same opinion that he is awkward because he is Karl. Karl is awkward becaue he always have second thoughts in his actions. He is afraid every step of the way. And the way it shifted from episode 6-8 how his feat climaxed or whether he simmered down when he opened up is brilliant. I love him
He's also gay, and given the dearth of openly gay actors in the Philippines, I don't think anyone else would be able to portray the LGBT struggle more accurately. People seem to be forgetting this. I don't think a straight but experienced actor would be able to give justice to how they want to portray true gay panic and yearning for alternate endings. These are too alien. They have too little to draw from.
Despite what happened, this BL became my comfort. No one can match this for me. Even writing this, I feel emotional. There were so many societal issues that was tackled in this series and that should be normalized.
im so grateful for this video cause i really thought the ending was sad but your perspective on it made me rethink . and im so glad u came outside and showed your talent and gave such an intelligent perspective on bl dramas

Congrats for getting the writer's attention. Your perspectives do count. Very lucid analysis, quite enjoyable. Nothing wrong with your voice. Ps, 3 will be free is probably the most underrated show ever.
Beautifully done! This review should be shared to everyone. And no, your voice doesn't sound weird. Keep doing what you love and thank you for educating us. I didn't even know those technical stuff. Just like what Vlad said, it's not science, it's art. What matters is what we feel. Thank you for sharing! Keep on living outside, too! ♥️♥️ Want to watch more films but I decided not to move on yet. GSP is like a safe space for me. But will be looking forward for more reviews from you!
Ah, I should have watched this video sooner. Gayá Sa Pelikula is dear to my heart and so I put off watching this video for a while. This was beautiful and uplifting in a way that I needed today. I’m really glad that you decided to speak about Gaya Sa Pelikula and its ending. I think the ending put a lot of people who loved the show up until that moment off, because Karl wasn’t ready to be out and that is the kind of small tragedy that we like to see overcome in our media. People want the movie happy ending, the satisfying payoff to the story even though this quieter hopeful ending probably more significant. Change lies in the sum of small things and not in the sweeping gestures. Karl is allowing himself to do what he loves, at his own pace. That ultimately more important than any romantic pay-off. I should also say, I’m really glad that you make these videos. I was so excited about finding a good video essayist, with interesting analysis and points of view, talking about one of my favourite nieches of media. Also, breadsword? Immaculate taste in video essayists!
Aww, I'm happy this video made your day a little better! And yes, I love GSP's ending because it allows its characters to develop at their own pace. It feels way more meaningful than some cliched Hollywood "reunion." PS. I'm glad to finally find another Breadsword fan!!

Hi! Love your analysis, and I've watched GSP multiple times as well. For the sake of discussion, I'd like to point out that Vlad's closing line is subtitled in English as "I've been LOOKING for you." Which kinda captures the spirit of what he meant but can, in my humble opinion, be improved. The original line in Tagalog is "Dito ka lang pala, eh." which literally translates to "You've been here all along." The context can be read that Vlad was looking all over for Karl except for the most obvious place to look. I've been thinking that an alternate (maybe even "better") last line would be, "I should've known you'd be here." What do you think?
Firstly, thank you for the positive feedback! And upon some more research and some enlightening conversations in this comment section, I definitely agree that "You've been here all along" is a better translation--I honestly like that translation a lot better and it makes me love the show even more!
@@Pastellyn many Filipino parents. That part is relatable to so many Filipinos, probably other Asians, not just the LGBT. To note, my parents made me undergo the swimming ritual. To note, there are still very large positives to the close-knit family culture in SEAsia, Gameboys, another Filipino BL, showed some of the good side. Still, some parts of this culture is bordering on abusive.
It's really hard for me to compare my favorite 2020 series since they're all so vastly different in genre, story, etc. but if I had to choose, I'd probably say either Cherry Magic or GSP!

This is the accurate translation. It functions as a supporting sentence to the unsaid (implied): I've been looking for you. You were here all along.
