Michael Clarke & Ciarain Shanahan Full Sparring Round in small gloves and no shinguards.
This shows the level of skill and control between them both, that they can spar with the small gloves and bare shins without getting injured. It's a great way to spar because it emulates the fight and makes it more realistic, prepares you for bare shin and also makes you think more about your choice of shots as you don't have the protection of shinguards. It also benefits your technique and precision of punches as you are not throwing at full pelt, so helps one another to practise certain shots/techniques without the worry of getting hurt.
This also prepares fighters for getting hit in the small gloves, going from 8oz to the 4oz is a big jump and I don't think you know quite the difference until you fight and get hit in them. So this is good to get the fighter used to taking punches in them, throwing punches as well as being more wary of shots. If you watch One Championship or have watched anyone fight in the small gloves you know that there is a much bigger risk of getting knocked out so its very important you don't take too many shots as there is only so many punches you can't take with these small gloves on no matter how tough you are. So this type of training is fantastic for working your defence, striking, movement and composure to prepare for fighting in 4oz gloves. How you fight in a full Thai rules bout can be very different to fighting in the small gloves.
Ciarain's next fight is in these gloves and has fought many times in them already, his fights are always so exciting and fast pace from the bell!
Mike is yet to fight in the small gloves but it's something I know a lot of people would like to see and that Mike would like to do himself, he trains in these gloves regularly and not only has a great skill set and technique but is a great boxer, so I know for a fact that it would be one you wouldn't want to miss!
