As someone who decided playing fire kings this format (and picked up yugioh few months ago), i'm not that surprised that fire king of all decks made it this far. The engine by itself does so much with so little, is fairly good into bystials, dodges hand traps and has a great matchup against Ryzeal espacially (Maliss works fine as well). You can run a lot of none-engine (hand traps, breakers (Kurikara? Dorogan?) you name it) The only thing it lacks is consistency and Dinh Kha addressed this so good! He also top-decked like a god which always helps and read his opponents like open books. Screamed like a little girl the moment Dinh Kha made it :)
Very good report, solid overview of the event. Covered some of the different decks that showed up, impactful cards, the emotions, the importance of variance and on-engine, and some personal games.
As smart as he is he did make a illegal play with chaos hunter but even the pros make illegal plays like Jesse Kotton last week at Orlando summoning the typhon illegally
It kind of didn't matter. Even if only 1 chaos hunter. Crash hiita, trigger hiita to add kirin to hand probably. Revive garunix, his atk is 3900 and pop firewall as Tony is under impulse lock. Ram garunix into white binder for 1000, bringing Tony to 1050. Chaos hunter into druiswurm, druis trigger arvata pop garunix and negate. Arvata swing for game
Dinh-Kha is playing the game of Yugioh the way everyone wishes themselves to play Yugioh. We need more people that are courageous enough to build their own deck and go for it. Yes, he is an amazing player and deckbuilder. But he also plays decks he built and decks he likes. The meta would be much more diverse if people would open up their mind and explore these choices. Not gonna happen because we Yugioh players are so used to netdecking and 1-2 decks formats but I would wish for a competitive scene where we have these brave alternative decks moments more often.
To be fair, Dinh-Kha's win in Milan happened because Prank Kinds mucho texto grind game blow up the whole field
I think we are in a format is you play any deck and do fine.
It's a player skill and how good are at playing the game
