Amazing perspective on something we're conditioned to not do. Regret is human nature and can be used as a fire of burning desire to excel later. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

The timing of this episode for me was impeccable. Learning from Daniel how to process regret (in, out, forward), that group rumination is not good, and the science regarding how we anticipate and process regret was eye-opening! I highly recommend everyone watch or listen to this!

Group roomination is my biggest fear / obstacle. I believe in the theory of you are the average of the 5 most influential people in your life. If the people you associate with are all regretful/negative, how do you step out or change your sphere of influence?

    • @droborja
      @droborja 2 года назад +2

      1. Identify what things have you been doing that's purely because of peer pressure.
      2. Replace those with things that are aligned to what you really want to do in life (maybe there's something you wanted to do for so long but your "friends" think it's lame)
      3. Establish habits aligned to what matters to you
At first I felt guilty for disconnecting with life long friends that wanted to smoke, drink, and party. I think it was impostor syndrome of having that old life and then suddenly wanting to do better.
Be okay with being alone for a while or connect with people you already know that might be in the same frequency as you.

Because I thought it was just another RUclips recommended video... I almost didn't realise it was your content.
Point is, attention spans are getting shorter as far as Social media is concerned... I almost missed your content because I thought it was someone I didn't know.
So, please consider using your picture together with that of your guest speakers for your RUclips thumbnail...

I’ve been motivated by this very thing! My most difficult child has pushed me wayyyyy outside my comfort zone and brought me to the point of giving up by letting the government come and take him or getting better. I chose getting better. I knew I would regret sending him away. One, because he is my responsibility and two, because I do love him and didn’t want to inflict a different kind of trauma in his life. He’s only 14 and not going to like his mom for various reasons anyway. How many teens don’t? I got to the point of a nearly complete emotional and psychological breakdown in June. I could barely compute basic daily tasks and struggled with what would it take for me to check myself into a mental ward of a hospital because I had trouble even taking care of myself, let alone my husband and two other children plus the dog and the cat. Other than going to work I felt like it was my duty to do everything else. What it all ended up revealing to me was that I had a severe lack of boundaries and wanted others - especially my family - to be well taken care of despite the fact that I discovered I was only imitating what I saw others do and wanted to emulate. Well, that isn’t me. That was them - and their family.
Seeking help is something that isn’t comfortable to me but I did it anyway and I’ve grown so much in one year! I’m just now learning how to become the best me and then teach the rest of my family along the way to help them become the best they can be as well.
Regret is a catalyst if one knows how to use it properly. It fuelled my innermost desire to mother well and lose the last bit of selfishness that I didn’t know I was clinging onto. I’ve got a long way to go yet but I am a learner through and through and won’t quit.
Thanks for this interview and I will go and check out his book. ☺️

If you dwell in regrets it means you’re not busy enough! You learn from those mistakes and missed opportunities and move on! Doctors make the wrong diagnosis quite often but don’t dwell on them, they keep moving because they have too! You can’t change the past, but you can change your present! Dogs don’t know about regret either, they live in the present! Regret can lead to depression and anxiety 😥, and who likes that?! Not me 🥺

Todays episode with Daniel Pink is absolute Fire and a Must to Listen to. This episode really resonated with me because I’m a perfectionist, caused by my biggest fear of looking stupid which causes inaction leading to a majority of my regrets. Some key takeaways are:
The four categories of regret are foundation, Boldness, Moral, & Connection. Get over regrets by being Inward, outward, & Forward Utilizing self disclosure, self compassion, and self distancing. anybody who proclaims no regrets Is saying no learning no growing. The fact that you’re processing regret is a tremendous indicator that you’re a great person which can lead to bliss and happiness. Avoid group rumination by following the process and listing the lessons learned. Because of my perfectionism The part that really resonated with me is that we learn more from taking action and listing the lessons learned from our mistakes along the way than trying to be perfect in our planning. Acting is a form of Learning it’s not separate from learning.
    Much Love and Aloha!

I don't regret my abortion however the fetus had downs syndrome so perhaps my case is a different scenario. I do regret slacking off at my old careers. I kept on getting promotions but deep down I KNEW I was cutting corners and wasn't giving it my all. Not only did it steal from my self worth but it stole from my integrity.

I appreciate this so much! Too often we live in fear of making regrets and over analyzing our decisions to create the best possible outcomes, when really focusing on the journey and the lessons we become the person we’re meant to be. We are a sum of all our decisions, but not always ! Especially suffering the loss of a loved one, like Ed says about his father, that’s not something we choose to have regrets about, the only lesson I would say that comes of a death, is the appreciation of time, quality of time, and meaningful interactions. You’re amazing! Both of you have incredible perspectives and I’m glad to get to hear them, and learn from them.

Great interview! Some great nuggets in there. I especially like the idea of a failure resume. That sounds like an amazing tool that can be used to pull yourself out of the past and begin focusing on the future, because you’re objectively working through the failures rather than just ruminating on them as mentioned in the show. Appreciate you both! #maxout
