I'm so angry this was deleted. This only helped to prove that Dudley was manipulated by his parents, and really shows how much he's grown as an individual.
I completely understand your frustration! This deleted scene showed Dudley's growth as an individual and his realization that his parents' beliefs and actions were wrong would have been a powerful addition to the film. It's a shame that it didn't make it into the final cut, as it would have added depth and complexity to Dudley's character arc.
@@CJ-hx9dupetunias scene makes sense if you look at it as though its more that she’s afraid because of what happened to her sister even if she didnt like her
@@pajasek99I think the reason they cut it from the film was because it just wouldn't have flowed well with the intro of the movie. It's kind of a long, awkward scene despite the emotional power behind it.
IIRC Rowling has confirmed that when the Dementors attacked, because Dudley had no negative memories of his own to be tormented by due to the Dursleys spoiling him, he instead was tormented with the realization of how everyone else actually saw him.
This was one of my favorite parts in the books. Dudley had been leaving Harry alone over the years and stopped bullying him ages ago, you could tell he had started to change and was trying to better himself in the background.
It's really after OoTP he started to change. I have read somewhere that it was Dudley's exposure to the dementors that made him see how much of a nasty person he was, and that he himself suffered through the same misery at that time as he had put his bullying victims through, and that's what made him change in the end.
I remember in one of the books Dudley left a cup of tea outside of Harry's bedroom as a peace offering, but Harry accidentally kicked it over and assumed it was a mean prank. That always made me sad for some reason.

Best moment from this.. he puts his hand out and locks eyes, like a man should but doesn't know if Harry will accept. Once he does, Dudley seems to visibly be relieved and he slumps to a "glad this is happening" feeling.. it's conveyed very well by the acting.
This is why we need an extended cut of both parts back-to-back. I know there are plenty more scenes still sitting on the cutting room floor. It would be preferable if WBD get their money and resources together, and enter negotiations with David Heyman to make the magic happen!
I think what Dudley was really trying to say was "I don't think you're a waste of space, despite what my family thinks. I love you and you will always be my family."
Love how harry puts Vernon in his place. After all these years of hearing and seeing his parents abuse Harry Dudley realizes that harry was NOT a bad guy after all. He definitely became a man by affording a fair well had shake and tell Harry that he wasn't a WASTE OF SPACE.
I love when Dudley looks down to their hands during the middle of their handshake. And the little 'ooh' face he makes at 1:20. Like he recognises he is shaking hands with greatness, or power? IDK but that face made the scene for me.
I really like the touch of having Dudley confidently walk without mistake to give Harry the handshake and respect, and then when walking back to his father have him fumble around a bit with the chain fence and tailgate.
While it would have been great to see more of Dudley's character development, the filmmakers had to make tough decisions about what to include and what to cut. Additionally, the focus of the story is on Harry and his journey, so it's natural that other characters may not receive as much screen time or development. Nonetheless, it's always interesting to see behind the scenes footage and deleted scenes that give us more insight into the characters and the world of the story.
Because they're idiots. Because despite making the final book two separated movies they somehow felt including a scene of Harry and Hermione ambiguously dancing with some underline romantic/sexual tension out of the blue was better, or that having the final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort be a long battle stretching all over the castle with slaps involved and almost no words being exchanged was better than the original from the book. The Harry Potter movies are not good ladies and gentlemen. From movie 4 onward hey're ok at best, but it's such wasted potential compared to the source material is not even funny and most times time doesn't have anything to do with it, it's just weird direction and writing choices most of the times.
@@BlackWind-rx5ilbook 4 is, in my opinion, the best book ever written. The movie is dogshit compared to the book. 5 and 6 films are decent. DH part 1 is boring and they couldn’t even include this scene. Part 2 is great but as a whole the movies wholly disappointed compared to the books.
Talk about character growth. Holding onto Harry’s hand for the extra few seconds looks like Harry realized Dudley was remorseful for the way he treated him through the years. Acknowledged simply with “see ya Big D”
What a beautiful scene. What J.K. said referring to when she was asked what the demtur showed Dudley. It really does through everything into context from Dudely being a spoiled brat to somewhat insightful and redeemed as a human
I'm in the middle of watching all the movies for the first time ever, and when I got to this bit in deathly hallows, and saw it wasn't in the actual movie, I stopped everything to watch this RUclips clip, this scene might be my favorite in the whole franchise of movies, and am so angry it wasn't included in the main movie, Dudley redeemed himself in this scene and they removed it from the movie? like that's so sad, so every time I watch the movie in the future, I will come back here to watch this clip, because to be honest, I think this should've been in the movie
I like to imagine that in the future while Vernon and Petunia cut contact with Harry, Dudley still calls him every once in a while to see how he is and maybe visits him during the holidays or something.
How about this theory… Harry was an unknown Horcrux right and we all know how being close to a Horcrux changes you like it did with Ron. Maybe the Dursleys were actually good people who were just being corrupted by it. Kinda makes you look at them differently.
I like to believe that down the line, Harry and Dudley had some form of contacts as they grew older. Obviously not best of friends but maybe a call every other holiday or maybe one of Dudley’s kids ended up being user and that brought them closer.
I think it being weird is better. Dudley bullied Harry for so long and then all of a sudden he's not just wanting but almost needing to force out an apology before he never sees Harry again
I think it was better that it was awkward. It makes it more realistic given the circumstances. Dudley bullied Harry the entire time they grew up together. Even though they were related, he never really treated Harry like family. And now he was more than likely leaving him for good. And after 17 years, this was truly the very first time he showed his own cousin any kind of love and respect. It was bound to be awkward. And after being saved by Harry from the Dementors, he not only got a glimpse of just how rotten he was to Harry, he also got a glimpse of the forces he was leaving behind his cousin against. He knew there was a chance Harry might actually die, and didn’t wanna leave him in poor taste.
One of the more intruiging character developments in the books, starting off as an arrogant youngster and constantly bullying harry.. Changing after harry helped him against the dementors, slowly becoming more friendly and trying to not show his bad attitude so much (leaving a cup of (cold) tea for harry as a sort of 'reach out' to him!) and finally even turning (in a way) against his father in an attempt to show he was ready to be friends!! He looks SO happy that he broke the tension finally.. This scene DESERVED a go in the movies (even of harry looks like he wants to run/defend himself at first!).
I hate how both of the Deathly Hallows movies had redemptive arcs for two of the long-time antagonists of the series (Dudley and Draco, respectively) and the filmmakers decided to leave _both_ moments on the cutting room floor. Absolutely clueless
Dudley wasn’t like petunia and Vernon who were terrible people Dudley was just a kid who didn’t know any better he bullied Harry and that got much worse with age not because he wanted to but because his parents made him think it was ok to do it if Dudley’s parents had been better and had not abused Harry or enabled Dudley to also do it there’s no doubt he would’ve been a very good kid dudley deserves full forgiveness and respect for figuring it out in his own as an adult he turned out far better than one would expect the aunt and uncle deserves to be punished but Dudley doesn’t
My headcanon is that Dudley came to live either with the Potters or close by to them, helped watched James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna, and created Rube Goldberg contraptions since he's a Muggle who cannot do magic.
Harry Melling (Dudley) is a really good actor. The facial expressions, reluctance to let go of Harry's hand and abandoned attempts to speak more after his line were performed perfectly. It's obvious that Dudley wanted to apologise for everything that he did to Harry, growing up but couldn't find the words or courage to do so. It's not as good as his redemption in the book but that's not the actor's fault. He still did an amazing job. Shame the scene was cut.
As someone who's only seen the movies and will possibly never read the books, I like how they did this scene. It shows that a goodbye scene between two characters doesn't always have to be emotional or drawn out. When Dudley realized that this was probably the last time he'll ever see Harry, he wanted to make amends. He knows he can't say anything too emotional or sappy, especially with the kind of relationship they have, so he does what he can. He offers a simple handshake and says, "I don't think you're a waste of space." Almost like he was saying, "I'm sorry for how I treated you, and you should know that I don't see you the same way they do." Harry, possibly stunned, can only say, "Thanks" in response. To cap it off, when Dudley walks back to the car, Harry quietly says, "See you, Big D." A sincere acknowledgment and goodbye. Again, I've never read the books and possibly never will, so I think this is definitely one of those deleted scenes that should've been kept in, as it would've made a greater impact.
The moment no one saw, the moment Harry and Dudley realized, they had a brother in each other. Or at least, they recognized one another as such the moment they shake hands.
This scene does look awkward, I can see why it didn’t make the final cut. It’s interesting enough to watch on deleted scenes, but I think it would’ve slowed down the pace of the beginning of the movie too much.
It was really nice in the books. Dudley had stopped bullying Harry ages ago after getting into sports and you could tell most of his childhood was influenced by his parents and he'd started growing out of it. Always thought it was heartwarming, and at least it was something. Malfoy never got the same treatment.
I like how awkward it is, it makes sense after how much Dudley spent bullying Harry. And sure he might have slowly started to cut back and all but what happened to Harry still happened and all that.
People talk about Dudley, but I really like how ashamed Vernon looks about Harry's remark. Shows the Vernon regrets his actions and (possibly) that Vernon now has a great deal of respect for Harry
Harry said Serius was the only family he had left. I wish they would have kept this in the movies so everyone could see that Dudley grew to be a good cousin and gave Harry some good blood family
I know some scenes have to be cut if the runtime is way too long, but this is one that 100% should have remained in the final film. Not only does it give dudley much needed character development, it also provides closure to them and harry instead of just driving off with no interaction. Thankfully this encounter is in the books so its canon
Always liked Dudley keeping his eyes on Vernon while being extra theatric about stepping over the tiny chain barrier, like a act of defiance and disagreement with how awful Vernon has been towards Harry.
It's understandable to be disappointed when a favorite scene is deleted from a movie, especially when it adds depth and richness to the story. It's possible that the filmmakers felt that the scene was not essential to the overall story, or that it slowed down the pacing of the movie.
@@pajasek99 what is disappointing is not only did they remove the Dudley goodbye scene but they added the Petunia goodbye scene, which wasn't in the books, and Petunia didn't deserve anyway.
@@CJ-hx9du Petunia's "apology" wasnt even really an apology imo. The entire context was telling Harry she also lost a sister that night... making it about herself.

I feel this would have been a major moment if this had been left in
this scene would've been great to see in cinemas 100% agree
One of the more intruiging character developments in the books, starting off as an arrogant youngster and constantly bullying harry..
Changing after harry helped him against the dementors, slowly becoming more friendly and trying to not show his bad attitude so much (leaving a cup of (cold) tea for harry as a sort of 'reach out' to him!) and finally even turning (in a way) against his father in an attempt to show he was ready to be friends!! He looks SO happy that he broke the tension finally..
This scene DESERVED a go in the movies (even of harry looks like he wants to run/defend himself at first!).
This scene is so warm for me 🔥
if this dont make u cry idk what will
Goodbye Big D😂
ugh it is SUCH A DISSERVICE TO NOT HAVE THIS IN THE MOVIEEEE. Maybe it would have made the cut if Dudley walked more quickly lmao damn
David Hayes just seemed to linger too long on things that didn’t matter and skip other things that did, right?
Aaawww, i loved it this one... Supposed.. do not deleted this scene.. i felt so tears 😭
I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when the horrible decision was made to cut this. Actually insane.
I love how Dudley stares his dad down while making his way towards Harry like "I dare you to say something.."
I hate how both of the Deathly Hallows movies had redemptive arcs for two of the long-time antagonists of the series (Dudley and Draco, respectively) and the filmmakers decided to leave _both_ moments on the cutting room floor.
Absolutely clueless
The sound of the hitting your knee on the ball hitch oooo😮
Deleting this was Chris Columbus's worst mistake since 1492.
Miyagi once said there’s no such thing as a bad student. Only a bad teacher.
Dudley and Harry are good cousins
Feel love brother
They should have left this in the movie
omg i just found this and it is sooo remakrable sceane that it should not of been cut. Woww blows my mind ummm this many years later.
I heard the movies are significantly better than the books
This scene does look awkward, I can see why it didn’t make the final cut. It’s interesting enough to watch on deleted scenes, but I think it would’ve slowed down the pace of the beginning of the movie too much.
Agreed with slowing down the pace but it couldve worked if they edited it differently
Ending arcs is a higher priority than action scenes.
"See ya, Big D."
Wow Dudley! that would of taken some courage 💪🏽
They shouldn't of cut this from the film.
After a few hundred bong rips, Big D realized that his cousin being a wizard was pretty rad
What a perfectly delivered line
As crappy as the Dursleys were to Harry. They took him in & sheltered him. I wish Harry & Uncle Vernon & Aunt Petunia made some peace before parting
The way vernin aslo didnt agree when harry said he was a waste of space shows hes changed a little too
This was the best scene out of the whole last film 🥳💯💯💯
I know some scenes have to be cut if the runtime is way too long, but this is one that 100% should have remained in the final film. Not only does it give dudley much needed character development, it also provides closure to them and harry instead of just driving off with no interaction. Thankfully this encounter is in the books so its canon
Always liked Dudley keeping his eyes on Vernon while being extra theatric about stepping over the tiny chain barrier, like a act of defiance and disagreement with how awful Vernon has been towards Harry.
I didn’t like how awkward he walked away but the scene is still good
Because this exists, I will forever say it happened and thus not deleted.
I hope they stayed in each other's lives
According to the ending of the book after Harry married Ginny; Harry and Dudley were said to be on "Christmas Card" Terms whenever they were together.
I really wish they had made versions of movies WITH the deleted scenes included.
At least Harry Potter and his cousin got to say goodbye.
I LOVE THIS SCENE 😭
probably the only scene that should have never been deleted and was indeed deleted xD
No clue why this was deleted. I'm all about character development and this is the absolute pinnacle of it.
Why on earth would they delete this?
@@Xfacta12482 Agreed, she gains no penance in my book. The bitterness she showed Harry over the years is inexcusable and no way to honor her dead sister.
1:24 in fact: Harry melling actor played "Frank Smith.". From Harry Potter movies. Tv shows animated Matoro's Legacy Ignition act 1 haos contestir Vol 1. Chapter 9.
I could've sworn he said ty for saving his life too
This is one of those pivotal moment... Director must have lost his mind
This should have been in the movie! Also the fact vernon does not outright agree to harry comment of being "a waste of space" says a bit as well
This never should have been left out, Dudley redeemed himself and the fact he grew as a man should have been shown
