Regarding the two output shafts. One shaft is connected to the ballistic drive gearbox* and applies superelevation to the gunner sight. The other output shaft drives the superelevation actuator ( a hydraulic pump) that applies superelevation to the main gun.
*The ballistic drive gearbox acts like a differential such that the gunner sight reticle never moves off of the target (up or down) as the amount of superelevation changes.

10:00 They are a metal representation of an artillery "range table". For the same elevation, weight of the projectile and propellent charge amount, influence the distance. Here on YT there is a video showing a good explanation of a mechanical computer for ship cannons that is worth watch.

I would look for an electrical clutch that is opened when the reset button is pressed, this may have been an UPGRADE that came after the diagram you have available. The long spring will return it to the starting point and then the motor (with the extra contact hidden behind the slip rings) or operator will wind it up (by looking at the two pointers on the range scale) to match the range finder input and calculate the required superelevation based on the projectile function stored on the cam and calculated with the non-circular gears and differential unit.
The rest may be needed if the device does not know which way to seek the correct range, the motor may only work one way and needs to be manually reset to wind up from some starting point.
Massive amount of machinery designed and developed to remove the need for the gunner to look at a table during battle for the correction, incredible waste of taxpayer resources that could have been used much more wisely on diplomacy. The nuclear deterrent should either be made to work or removed from humanity. Give every country one nuke that they can retaliate with if attacked against the attackers capital city, every other country, one at a time, can try to nuke the capital if the previous nuke fails to get through. If a country attacks pre-emptively with their nuke all countries can test their nukes against the belligerent. No more conventional weapons required.
Nuclear weapons exist now only to instil fear into traditional enemies and awe into citizens who think they are a viable tool to manipulate enemies.

Computers like that were also used on battleships. These were much bigger. A presentation can be found: William Barker and the Mk1A Gun Fire Control Computer. // Also, there is a vintage video how computers like that work: U.S. NAVY BASIC MECHANISMS OF FIRE CONTROL COMPUTERS MECHANICAL COMPUTER // If someone gets into battle ships, there is the channel: Tom Scott, The Older One. The old man is climbing through the battleship Texas. There are also presentations on how the canons were made etc. These presentations are well done. // Myself, I worked in maintenance of the German A4 MBT. The computer presented here is a far cry from that. It had hydraulics, shrieking gyros all over the turret. Actually aircraft technology put into a tank. The range scale on the computer here looks like from an aircraft. Probably the style will match with aviation tech of the time.

The (not existing anymore) Geek Group did salvage a battleship computer : ruclips.net/video/hXNcDncuDFI/видео.html . On further videos on that channel you can see the computer being taken apart and worked on, but it will require digging to find in which videos thay talk about it.

I remember visiting the USS Massachusetts years ago and the tour guide showing us the mechanical computer for the 16”guns. They said it even compensated for the rotation of the Earth too? Didn’t know that affected artillery rounds or if they were just repeating some BS?

@@fishsquishguy1833 Rotation when draining a sink is known to be BS. I don't know if it makes sense with guns, plane navigation ... The Wikipedia article about the WW1 "Paris Gun" states earth rotation was part of the calculations, back then.

It affects even longer-range small arms fire, let alone artillery. The effect was actually *discovered* because of its effects on artillery shots, although it's also relevant in other circumstances as well.

Best not to think about whether this unit ever did help to kill people.

It mainly looks like it was used to waste tax payers money and then take some space in a storage facility for decades.
