I realize this video is 2 years old, but I just love that classic JD plowing outfit. What a beauty.
Brings back memories! I was the engineer at Des Moines Works that introduced the 2810 & 3710 back in ‘87/‘88. Hard to believe that design lives on 33 yrs later. Thank you for sharing.
Wow that is great to hear. Thank you for sharing.
Love the older iron for sure. Can't beat plowing either. Really good having you back Jason. Keep up the recovery. GO BTP💪
Just what I was looking for: another video from BTP to ease the pressure in my life. It’s so relaxing. Thank you BTP.
Thank you for watching. I am glad the video adds some relaxation.
Had two 12 bottom jd plows in 1988 pulled them with 975 versatile and 950 versatile . Plows did great job easy to set .
We had a DMI 12 bottom plow we used with our turned up AC 8550, monster. 8550 needed to have weight added as traction wasnt great as the 8550 is lighter than most tractors pulling it, got it from a guy with a Stieger, if you know tractors you know those were heavy weights.
I’ve always liked the look of the front windshields on the Deere’s. Had that round/bubble look to em. To me it gave the machine character.
Thank u very much. Great to see old iron still at work doing what they do best.
When that rig plows a field - the field knows it’s just been plowed lol
👍👍
Great Vlog, wonderful JD power, thanks for sharing
Brings back memories of my days on the farm
Everytime you post a video, i usually get here as fast as I can, always love seeing modern, but also old iron too, thank you BTP for passing my time especially when Im bored
Man! Look at all those different machines out there at work! Sweet! Definitely one of the biggest plows I've ever seen! And the dual exhuast on the John Deere disking was interesting! Thanks for sharing brother!
That 4320 with the Detroit engine is a cool tractor.
@@bigtractorpower indeed it is!! Love learning about new tractors!! Thanks for bringing us great content!!
Growing up on a farm that almost exclusively plowed makes me excited to watch this video. Eventually they stopped using it because it was so expensive to maintain and herbicides were a better option. But it’s still fun seeing this go through the field!
I always like getting a chance to film plowing.
Great video! That's some awesome plows! The largest plow that we had was a 5 bottom plow. Thanks for sharing! Have a great and awesome day!

Beautiful tractors and plows
Welcome back BTP....you’ve been missed!
Thank you. It’s good to be back. I was sick for almost a month. Feeling much better now.
@@bigtractorpower I’m glad to hear it! Take care man! Hopefully you can make it to Rollag, Mn this Labor Day Weekend? It’s an awesome show with tons of real old iron and a great display of Steiger tractors....regardless, get well and stay well.
That is an awesome looking setup👍😁 I like plowing action😉👍
Dang that is a huge plow and the 8960 sounds awesome
It’s a cool 1980’s plow team.
Thank you! Needed to see dirt, sick of seeing snow.
Same here
Awwww booo hooo hooo "The Children of the Corn" had to suddenly grow up and grab a pair. Go move to India if you're sick and tired of the weather mister "I'm a so called Farmer!"

That plow is sit correctly, looks good!
Man she’s shining and h so nicely!!! The plow that is.
😁👍
The 60/70 series 4wd John Deere tractors are my favorite 4wd tractors
thats one job i loved doing is plowing.nice video
AWESOME, THANK YOU...
Thank you for watching.
I can smell it in Kentucky and this guy can set a plow correctly
Nice machine 👍
Here in Australia up until the late 70s , one way disc plows were commonly used. Chamberlain Tractor company in Whelshpool West Oz made a 30 disc model. They could sure cover some gound and if set properly they let a beaut smooth finish. John Shearer also made excellent ploughs with hydraulic stump jump action that could be set lighter for rocky ground in cab. The one way disc plows can be opened up wider or closed up for different ground types. The 30 disc model could be opened up to around 23 feet and still do a good job at burying trash and burying weeds.
Then all of a sudden ploughing became a dirty word. Scarifiers were ok, but the plough really copped a bad name. They were the cause of hardpans and erosion issues overnight. I still use a 24 disc Chamberlain plow every now and then, depending on trash levels and it is a very very cheap way of ripping or turning the dirt over and burying trash. I pull it with a 2290 Case and even when its sunk in to it maximum depth taking around a 17-18 ft cut the old 2290 has no problem at all pulling it. We have never replaced a disc on it and its covered thousands of acres over the years. We can wear out a set of points on a scarifier in a day. We can also ear a set of no till points out pretty quickly in our soils. We seem to get better yeilds with conventional four inch points because it scatters the seed and fertilizer around a bit more and doesnt burn the seed.
We dont have near the amount of top soil as you lot over there in the states but i have seen a few farms using big mulbourd ploughs to bring up a bit of clay in sandy non wetting soils. Great vid as always👍👍
Thank you for watching and sharing. I have a few John Deere - Chamberlin sales brochures.
Good to see some fresh dirt 👍🚜
👍👍
farming done right, right here. great video. hope you are well, haven't been seeing much content
Thank you for watching I have a new video out tonight.
Who dislikes this video?! What a puttz
The ones who say it causes erosion.
Looks like fairly sandy ground. Even with new land slides and lathes when we used to plow in our heavy ground the dead furrow would look like you were driving drunk....There was a lot of side draft going on trying to roll that heavy gumbo.
great and big tractor
Amazing 😊👌
OK im Red-blooded but the first ten seconds of this tractor just ripping it blew me away, Nice.
I like to cover all the brands. It is fun finding the classics matched up just like they were new 30 years ago.
I used to have an 8 bottom plow i pulled it with my case 2470 it was a pretty nice setup
Sounds sweet 🏁
Very much enjoyed your video.
Thank you for watching.
Que hermosura de maquinas
That's turning some dirt...👍👍
I'd love to smell that ground as it's turned over. Most acres are now no-till in my area and I'm sure there are some youngsters who may never know that wonderful scent. I'll never forget it.
When I was a kid I liked to walk down a freshly plowed field in the dead furrow. It was up to my waist. It’s amazing how verticals tillage has changed things. It’s all about moving two inches of soul today instead of 12.
Love me some green paint tearing up some ground !
Wheel weights and front weights of 8-10,000 pounds could greatly reduce slip if axle loads allow. Thanks for sharing brother!
It doesn't take long for the moldboards to polish up real shiny. That 8960 is making it look real easy, too.
I am guessing this field is snow covered now.I wonder how the 8970 would pull the 3700 with 30 more hp & power bulge
I live in the city and know nothing about farming but this is all so intriguing to me.
Thank you for watching. There are lots of interesting machines that cultivate the land.
There's a lot to be said for GPS, many tractor drivers today wouldn't have a clue how to use a conventional plow ,you would have to work out your stetches so they both marry up,it's not like a reversible plow where you start at one headland and finish at the other. If I was to be really picky ,the plow would have given a much cleaner finish if it was fitted with skimmers ,the plow in the video wasn't set right as you could still see corn stalks and rubbish that wasn't buried , plowing is slow and expensive operation if you don't care about the finish you may as well use a heavy cultivator ,great video I prefer a track laying tractor for plowing much better distribution of weight and more pulling power.
Kind regards,
Kevin Fox,England Essex
Farm tractor guys Curtis and or Wagner always said and truthfully that it takes weight to pull weight, so my point is that old Wagner was quite heavy and it's old 14 l Cummins pulled very well because that Bud was heavy, that big JD had a big similar 14 l Cummins, much newer, but both pulled well according to Weight but not necessarily according to HP,awesome video guys
Nice👍
Wow , nice work
Thank you for watching.
@@bigtractorpower No problem ! 🙂🚜
I used to plow gardens with a Farmall Super A and one bottom plow in high school
Pretty significant slippage
We run a two John Deere plows with buster bars. One is a 10 bottom and the other is a 12 bottom. Pulled by a 9430 and 9420R. My dad has been plowing for over 40 years and his dad before him.
Nice plowing team.
thats a nice outfit, power on the land,
Thank you for watching.
The 60/70 series was the best 4wd tractors John Deere has ever made in my opinion, I ran a 8870 in the 90s poling a 57’ air seeder
They are good 4wds for sure.
Très fort
74K for a plow 😂 I couldn't imagine... I guess someone still buys them. Thanks for the video! Awesome quality as always!
Plows still get used in canning crops like peas and in seed corn production.
@@bigtractorpower they use moldboard plows in South Georgia in Decatur County, my home county. There’s a lot of vegetable farms down there. Check out South Georgia Farming on RUclips and you’ll see some moldboard plow videos.
You can find old White plows for 10k or so with as many bottoms, that will pull easier and do as nice if not a nicer job
@@nellsonstout7001 I've always been told White/Oliver made one of the best plows.
Big Bud is working a lot harder
Yes it is.
SIXTEEN, EIGHTEEN Inch bottom plow!!!!! Versus the two, fourteen inch bottom plow I pulled with dad’s 1949 Case model SC. DAMN! That’s an advantage of 260 inches (21 2/3 feet) per pass. Double DAMN!
Nice shiny bottoms on that plow, looks like it gets used quite a bit.
If the plowshares *aren't* nice and shiny, they won't "scour" and will just shove dirt to the side instead of turning it over, as well as taking much more fuel because it's harder to pull. If they're not shiny, you need to go plow some virgin sod for a few hundred yards.
@@akallio9000 I was raised on a farm, so that is something I already knew. I was just commenting on how the plow bottoms have a almost mirror-like shine to them.
It looks like the 370 horsepower range is a very versatile model in all the tractor companies 🌻
Looks like a plow day... Just a little newer and bigger machines then the Johnny poppers

Love the smell of turned dirt
😁👍
He sure has a nice collection of equipment!
👍👍
Wonder what the tire slippage percentage is when pulling a plow like that? These tractors nowadays throw more dirt out their tire treads that I could till in a day back when I had a 60 John Deere struggling to pull a two bottom plow set shallow. Pretty amazing!
This was a exhibition more than a serious field after field tillage. The 8960 can pull the plow but a 450 hp tractor is better suited for it than a 370 hp.
Nothing polishes steel like soil
I see a little power hopping going on... I used to run a 8960. It was running around 425 hp and would power hop too. We tried different things to stop it and finally settled on lower tire pressure. Had a 350 Cummins in it. Standard quad range trans and was a good trouble free tractor.
The 12 bottom plow is all the 8960 wants in this type of soil.
Wish I could do that all day!
😁👍👍
Good video she's doing a great job
👍👍
Had no idea Deere was still building plows 71,000 is pretty steep though considering you can buy turbo tills or mulch rippers cheaper than that and cover mire ground in a day.
Still a cool old school video!
It just depends on what type of tillage and crops are in the rotation. Plows are still useful. Especially in veggie canning crops and potatoes.
I liked to plow. Used a 4430 John Deere 5 16 bottom, and a 8440 with 7 20. Miss thoughts days.
Nice plowing team. The 8440 and s 7 20 plow is cool.
I am interested in the case IH 2166 axial-flow combine harvesting corn
That soil looks really compacted.
It was the first week of December after several days of rain. I think the winter cool weather had more do do with it.
@@bigtractorpower That JD has a bit of tire slippage going on but hes really showing those other machines how its done, and his head wont be ponding like the forges of hell when he gets out.
You ever gonna get some merch?
👍
I hear a Screaming Jimmy at 5:30😀

Hello! Awesome ancient tractor performing flawlessly!
Ancient? What's that make the steamers?
@@kylekenan2321 Almost "prehistoric"...
It looked pretty new to me, so I had to google it. Manufactured from '89 to '93. It wasn't all that long ago, 2021 - 1993... oh wait! I'm old.
@@akallio9000 my dad bought a 8560 in 93 and was and still is the newest he has. Overall I wouldn't consider it either new or old, considering some are still farming with IH 06s and JD 20s.
what is the price of case IH 2166 axial-flow combine harvesting corn
How soon after harvest are these fields plowed?
Happy new year big tractor power, where have you been?i think for a few weeks you havent made any video, welcame back
Hi. I was extremely sick for the past month. I am on the mend now where I can make a few videos again. It’s good to be back.
@@bigtractorpower Very soory and wish you a very quick recovery, May God heal you quick
Moldboarding is great ig you do not get a lot of winter precipitation. That causes excessive erosion of loose soils.
I think every plow should have one of those rake things to break up the clumps. But this is an impressive plow.
The harrow attachment is handy.
Good plough for level ground but wont work on hilly terrain
I have a 6 bottom JD that had to be built in the 60's. It has speed plows so it does better at 6mph than 3. Pull it with a 986 IH. Pretty field left behind.
Very very cool tillage team.
Plowing was the best part of farming to bad no one does it anymore
There are still a few. Plowing is good for veggie canning crops.
👀YES 👍 💋💪
Bet the old girl is drinking a lot of diesel pulling that plough
I'm impressed with the way that Big Bud is handling the 10 bottom. Looks like much less slippage than the John Deere. At the end of the day might not be much difference in the amount of ground plowed even thought is 2 bottoms less.
The 8960 is maxed out on the 12 bottom. Big Buds are built heavy. Even with less horse power their weight connects better on traction.
Im planing on buying land in mexico , for crops. Thank you .
That’s good looking fields, do you put manure on your fields. 🤔
I don’t think this farm spreads manure on this field.
8020 in the background?
👍👍👍👍
Looks like that Big Bud is a bit lean on DEF... I'd open the spigot another 1/4 turn or so.
No DEF on that one. Good old days!!
I believe all that No-till stuff only cause real problems. I've always said turning the soil is the best way as all a person doing is turning 12in. Of soil which allows water to get in
Tillage helps break disease issues and warms the soil faster too.
Probably not to many of those plows sold in that frame size. See a fair number of 6 and 7 bottom 3700s but nothing that much bigger than that. Looks like the ground was righ on the verge of being to damp to run that day.
It was a bit damp but luckily they could run as it was a 4.5 hour drive to film 😁
👍👍👍
Thank you for watching.
😁👍
Are those tires on that 8960 710x42s?
I am not sure. I did not look when I was filming.
If this was in Europe they would want a reversible plow to eliminate the dead furrow.
Maybe it's my imagination, but that 8960 seems to have a lot of tire slippage pulling that 12 bottom plow.
