- In this episode I’m working with the UW Stout Auto Club on our 1954 DeSoto Firedome with a 276 Hemi! We are ditching the Powerflite, and doing a 727 swap using an adaptor from Hot Heads.

Just earned a new sub! You have a good taste in cars man
Thanks James!
Should be a lot of fun with that extra lower gear.
A much better trans would be an A500, A518, & others such as a700R4, all these will give you a deep first gear, and an over drive, now were talking.
Hey bud, I have a 55 desoto I need a flex plate.
Do you have a idea of were I could get one?
Try asking the National DeSoto club on Facebook
What's new on this? I have heard that by putting the trans extension housing from a 1970's era Mopar chassis motor home, which have a brake on them on them like a 50s car, you can retain the parking brake on trans feature. They came with 318's in some cases, but usually 413 or 440's which would not fit as well.
Or you can put on a later rear axle with parking brakes in the drums.
Sorry, must have missed this comment. Covid-19 stopped all work on the car, UW Stout went all online and all the car club members went home. But we are back now, and I should have Part 2 done soon hopefully.
I did a 518 transmission swap on my 1954 Desoto Firedome with the 276 engine. I purchased a clockable starter from RobbMc Performance. I used my rear crossmember and fabricated a piece of channel iron for the mount. I used a mid eighties GM transmission mount.
Can't find any other videos with the 54 Desoto 727 Transmission swap. I have a 330 chrysler hemi and want to place this in a 40 Desoto or into a 47 Desoto Suburban. Did you make any additional videos on this swap?
Tom North still working on the next video!
Where did you find the adapter plate
Hot Heads!
Rear axle swap for new engine?
No, keeping the same rear axle. Will explain it more in Part 2. I hopefully have part 2 done soon. COVID stopped all work on the car
