HOLLY SNAPS!!! Mark has the "doors!!!" Myself and HAM2 painted with Mark in a skate-warehouse in Oakland back when Mark painted the doors that has the girl on it [time:0:25>] You can also see the wall/doors also in SprayCan Art 2 book.
That was at Phil Seulings NY Comic Con when they had the Benefit for the Air Pirates Defense Fund. Vaughn sketched a Cobalt 60 with a bullet riddled lizard. Someone stole it out of my portfolio at the show.
I remember tripping when I saw Vaughn cartoon concert on the Saturday night of the show. After that I hung out and got a sketch from Mw Kaluta outside of the room. I kept hearing Cheechs voice in my head, so I went to my hotel room and wrote 4 or 5 pages of one shot stories of Cheech and gave them to vaughn on Sunday. He loved then and told me he wanted to use a couple of them. He signed a couple things for me and I had to leave and head home. He asked for my address and phone number, which of course I gave him and left, only to find out awhile later of his tragic death.
Fantastic... you have TRULY acquired the master's touch. Thanks so much for sharing the inner sanctum...
I was at the 1975 Julycon and remember watching Vaughan working on this piece of art. As I recall, Vaughan auctioned off one hour of his time to help offset the Air Pirates legal expenses, and wound up working for many hours -- if not several days -- on the Lizard of Oz.
I had been a fan since discovering Sunpot in Galaxy Magazine, and it was such a thrill to see him at work. It was a shock to read two weeks later that he was dead and gone.
One high point of that convention was the time that I returned to my hotel room briefly, and rode up in the elevator with Vaughan, Barbara and Mark Bode! On the way back down to the con a short time later, I shared the elevator with Jack Kirby! Those were magical times...
Sorry T - I have lost contact with mr Ham2 as well. I need to dig him up as well!
@GCRad1 thanks! If you end up getting in contact with him pass my info along. I haven't seen him in years!
