I can really feel you. Last year of high school was exactly like this for me, every day was just a burden and I was sooo exhausted. I was hungry, I was barely sleeping, there were a bunch of stupid teachers and useless classes, etc. I think everyone has to have atleast one experience like this and find their own ways to solve this. What worked for me is my friends. They were my motivation. To meet them, have fun and sometimes just forget about what is going on in my life. I am really thankful for them. I was able to pass my driving test and I've achieved some success in school too, but still, shit got so bad that I was at the lowest of my life at the start of July. That was basically like a reset on my life and I feel like I started a "glow up" journey since then and now I'm having my best year in my life and soon I'll also start college. Life can be funny and as you can see there is always hope. Maybe you'll find your way own too.
i feel you dawg, i'm 16, junior in hs. i have great grades, but i spend at least 4-5 hours after school doing work. AP classes have a shit ton of work... idk if that seems like a lot, but i have to go to the gym daily too. it's super overwhelming. i've been trying to procrastinate less and spread out my workload. i've been tryna do work IN some of my classes but it's just ridiculous. i've had so many mental health issues this year and a lot of it was due to school. i relate to you. teachers are inconsiderate at times too. in october my childhood dog died and it spiraled me into a depression. i messaged my teachers on a thursday, letting them know that my dog is going to be put down tomorrow, asking for some extra time on my assignments. i had a project due on friday. my one teacher for that project extended the date to MONDAY. she said "monday is the latest i can do and then points will be taken off" meaning instead of spending that weekend grieving, i'd have to suck it up and do the assignment. i understand she's not supposed to baby me but seriously? there was zero consideration. most of them didn't even bother to ask how i was doing when i got back to school. only 2 of them cared enough to talk to me about it in person. that's out of like 7-8 teachers.

I agree, I only like art class (I love doing visual traditional & digital art as a passion) gym class (when we get to play games and not exercise or do yoga as my lazy ass never gets off the damn couch a home to do any of that), social studies (everyday the topic is always current events in the world normally, depending on what the lesson is about I may be interested, although lately it has had me feeling a bit bored), lunch which isn't even a class but honestly when it is time, it is such a break and gives time to refresh the mind. Months ago, I was more bored than now, right now is probably cuz I'm more focused on my imaginary characters of my superhero universe that everything around distracts me and bores me a bit but it gets me a bit interested at least... I mean before I wasn't interested at all with my last teacher, she was... it felt like I was experiencing a level of boredom I've never in my life experienced... our current class teacher is a lot better I will say. I don't blame the teacher, maybe just me.... I have distracted myself too much in my daydreaming world in my mind everyday.... I at least have friends to talk to! Although in general I have having a good time, I just it's just my low attention span and very daydreamy mind that gets the best of me.
School: It takes 6 hours for kids to learn and lunch is good for kids! And homework is so easy! Also school: trash ahh homework, disgusting ahh foods, dumb homework and hard homework.

dude i relate to this so much, like out of the 6 classes i’m taking in highschool rn (junior year btw), i legit only care about human anatomy & us history, which even then i’m not learning exactly what i wanna learn about us history is taught through a very biased lens & doesn’t focus on anything that doesn’t put america in the spotlight with human anatomy, i’m not particularly interested in science or biological studies, but as someone who wants to become a professional animator it really interested me every other class either feels like a waste of time to me or isn’t something i find interesting school’s so fucking suffocating, we’re legally forced to wake up and catch the bus by 7am and proceed to spend 7 hours in an environment we hate, as well as having almost no room to discover new enticing subjects we care about. even when you do find something you’re interested in, school often either focuses on the specifics you don’t care about, or don’t teach you enough to satisfy your time spent learning about it tl;dr school is fucking atrocious & it drains any energy you have on the bright side at least, i made a new friend who’s almost identical to me: -we think & process & view things the same way -we share similar interests (rn i’m getting them into jthm by jhonen vasquez & they’re loving it) -we’re both stupid & fucking weird & get all spastic & excited whenever we see eachother it’s so cool so sharing my final period with them makes school better at least, but overall it’s still awful rant over, i’ll respond to this comment with how my day was & whatever question you ask at the end of the video
my day was tiring tbh i went to school after getting 3 hours of sleep (which i’ll probably get tonight but whatever) when i got home i took a nap for around 2-3 hours & was forced to go to the grocery store an hour later when i got home i ate unhealthy garbage before getting mildly sick a fee hours later & had to take a shower about an hour ago to not throw up lol- on a contrary note i spent several hours watching yt & watched lockstin design a pokemon region based on the pacific northwest, so that inspired me to (hopefully) start designing my own pokemon region i don’t want to dedicate my future to making pokemon fangames or anything, but pokemon has been a huge part of my childhood so designing creatures initially as pokemon plants a nice foundation to allow said character to grow away from it’s fakemon origins before it becomes my own fictional creature after some slight redesigns, so i’m having a lot of fun thinking about that also my favorite crop from minecraft are potatoes because i grew up watching technoblade & the potato wars, i never got into the whole dsmp thing but if you like that that’s cool, i just like his old hypixel videos lmao- anyways hope you’re doing good man

I'm also in the same boat atm. while my experience is kinda different than yours, i've just entered into my senior and it already sucks. I still hate waking up everyday and getting ready for school, having to do a bit loads of work and the amount of expectations the school has for not just me, but for all of us. Ik i was told many times that it is already gonna be hard but the school expectations suck. Like i don't want to really focus on work and leave out the things i wanna do such as guitar, building muscle and doing youtube. Even if i tried to focus on getting some work done, i get demotivated easily because of the amount of work that is there. I probably failed one math test by the time of writing this, i'm not gonna do something that requires math anyways. It's really ass going to school. I'm not even myself sometimes when i'm with ppl who aren't like-minded just like me. I mean i get that you don't have to have the same interests as me but man it's like learning for the sake of getting good grades. My parents expect me to do well in school but they don't really care about my interests that much, they mostly want me to just get a degree in college and that's it (college isn't a bad thing but my goals are far from that). Most of the time, i think about ending it all but i have to live for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He would want me to keep going, even when things get worse. I'm only living for Him. I know it sounds corny for some of you but He's mostly my motivation for living. I always hated school too so I get your frustration. I have some advice for the critical thinking bit idk if it will help. it sounds like you're getting hung up on real world experience vs pure logic. You got to throw away any actual real life stuff and focus solely on the premises and statements given and assume that they are true. So in the dog example you gotta pretend you have never heard of a dog before and assume that they can fly solely because they told you they can fly. From there it follows that if something is a dog that they can fly. It can be helpful to replace the word dog with a letter like X kinda like how they do in algebra. It doesn't matter what X is because all you need to know is that they can fly. I'm in your discord and I'd be willing to help you study for that kind of stuff if you want. You're probably better at this than you realize, you're just getting tripped up because of how things are worded and how they expect you to throw out real world experience
I agree. Currently 18 in highschool and I’ve been taking some high school classes since middle school. Almost every class seems so useless at this point and that I’m just doing it for credits to graduate. None of these classes are teaching me anything I’d use (except AP psychology) none of these classes are really interesting to me. I am literally only doing it because legally I have to. I should’ve been able to finish school years ago. It all seems useless it all seems monotonous. I can’t help but to think that I could be spending those 8 hours at school, 5 days a week, actually doing something that will benefit my future

Bro, PLEASE do not go to college if you aren't ready. You can do a semester or two of just general classes if you know for sure you want a degree. If you don't know what you want to do in life don't force yourself to do something you are unsure of. I've been in college for 4 years now and still have a bit to go, I have seen a lot of people burn out and waste a lot of money trying to do a degree they didn't want or weren't prepared for.

I really just want the school system to cross the line for most kids like no phones in any school across the country because if that were to happen it'd definitely spark a protest and kids would just not go to school. Then they'd be forced to change how school is or at least get rid of some dumb and useless stuff. Like for example my school has a rule where in freshman PE you need to wear a red shirt or else you lose a bit of your grade or get Saturday school. It's hard to continue walking in this building with no free will.
bro i hate school, i am drained. i can't focus on my work cause I have zero energy, zero relief, stress whole day, I have to prioritize my few hours of free time for my happiness because i can't get any at school. other people have fun at school but i dont, and I then have no time to study. Generally I agree with you told. I mean 80%-90% of is useless but that example you told us about dog flying etc etc. That's actually important in terms of development. The question seems silly but if you apply to a real world problem you will see how much that logic affects coding, computer and things related...including hacking.
in primary school i hated school for how the teachers acted. in secondary school (which im still in rn) i hate all the subjects that will be completely irrelevant to me in the future but i still get graded for and will still affect my chances of getting into an education system that can let me study the actual subjects i want to study, especially chinese and language subjects in general, and i have no idea why schools put so much emphasis on them even though they are quite literally the least useful to the majority of people. there are some subjects i like (for example math), but the teacher was like "oh the last form of kids who took the math exam didnt get good grades so i will have to start training you guys" and then just gives literally 30-40 questions of homework every single day. i cant even bring myself to like the stuff im learning anymore. i had a chinese dictation last friday, yesterday (which im pretty sure contributed to my lack of sleep) and another one on this friday. i straight up hate that subject because im not good at it and even the teacher literally told my parents they couldnt do anything to help because they had to cater to the other students as well. at least not everything is bad, there will be a mid term assessment in a week and then it will be easter holiday so i have that to look forward to. edit: my favorite crop is potato because baked potatoes are a really good food source and can be made fully automatic with farms
Fucking hate school. Hate when people tell others to be grateful for education because some don't get the chance. It's not about education at all. Most important things I know that help me in daily life, I learned simply by living, experiencing. The shit you learn in school is useless because you'll forget most of it after some years, and if you don't, others for sure will and so no one cares anyway. They give you all these things to learn so you have something to write down in the test. In school you don't learn things to know better about certain subjects, you learn so the teachers can measure how disciplined you are to do everything you're told. Because that is what makes a good worker in this day and age. Simply doing whatever you're told, and you get rewarded for that with money. That's what school trains you to do but with grades instead. Rat race. This year I'm writing straight A's and B's so everybody thinks I just love studying. But I do know that it's stupid as hell. Sadly, and although these two things have little to do with each other if you really think about it, you have to be good in school to be able to do the job you could be really great at naturally. I understand every single person that hates school and get's F's and stays home and what not. It says nothing about them being lazy or undisciplined, but that's what school wants you to believe so there is pressure on you to always keep on studying. This got long but TLDR school is evil

Bro I relate so much. I'm also taking two liberal arts classes rn that I give zero f's about: humanities and art history. I'm getting my degree in product design where I will need neither of these :) . I can't even drop these classes cause they're required. They also have such high expectations too like we're supposed to be reading some book or article every spare second of free time we have away from school. Cudgeling myself by reading books I don't want to read and learning things I don't care about and paying thousands of dollars in the process. By forcing kids to read books of the school's choosing they're discouraging actual critical thinking into topics that we really want to learn more about. Other than that things are going pretty well tbh.

Grade 12 really burned me out. Even the one class I originally enjoyed, computing science, I ended up hating at the end even when it is my passion. I am majoring in computing science this september, I am scared that since I am burnt out university could be worse. We'll see...

Hey Martin, I wish you all the best, especially regarding your health! Regarding your critical thinking class, I get that it can seem absurd, though that stuff is important. I'd rather call the course "Introductory logic class" or something like that because what you describe sounds like the basics of classical logic which is fundamental for stuff such as truth tables & boolean algebra; and that stuff is the basis for binary operations which again is useful & important for stuff such as logic gates when it comes to IT. I get that the statements sound very weird, maybe it helps you to think of them purely as variables since that is what they represent, so "all dogs can fly" just is a stand-in for "A", and it the real-world context of what this phrase says doesn't matter as it's just about the logical connections that these different variables have, whether one follows from the other, whether one implies the other, so on and so forth.
I went the last two years to a further going school to get a better qualification for better job which was very useless because I mostly slept the last 2 years in school got bad grades still got the school qualification but a bad job because I just hated the school topics financial stuff which was so boring and stuff

Even I hate school! I never even finish school since I quit school at grade 10 due to it being way too hard on me since I was dealing with way too many problems in the schools. school’s so fucking suffocating, we’re legally forced to wake up and catch the bus by 7am and proceed to spend 7 hours in an environment we hate, as well as having almost no room to discover new enticing subjects we care about. even when you do find something you’re interested in, school often either focuses on the specifics you don’t care about, or don’t teach you enough to satisfy your time spent learning about it
tl;dr school is fucking atrocious & it drains any energy you have
on the bright side at least, i made a new friend who’s almost identical to me:

on a contrary note i spent several hours watching yt & watched lockstin design a pokemon region based on the pacific northwest, so that inspired me to (hopefully) start designing my own pokemon region
i don’t want to dedicate my future to making pokemon fangames or anything, but pokemon has been a huge part of my childhood so designing creatures initially as pokemon plants a nice foundation to allow said character to grow away from it’s fakemon origins before it becomes my own fictional creature after some slight redesigns, so i’m having a lot of fun thinking about that
also my favorite crop from minecraft are potatoes because i grew up watching technoblade & the potato wars, i never got into the whole dsmp thing but if you like that that’s cool, i just like his old hypixel videos lmao-

I'm also in the same boat atm. while my experience is kinda different than yours, i've just entered into my senior and it already sucks. I still hate waking up everyday and getting ready for school, having to do a bit loads of work and the amount of expectations the school has for not just me, but for all of us. Ik i was told many times that it is already gonna be hard but the school expectations suck. Like i don't want to really focus on work and leave out the things i wanna do such as guitar, building muscle and doing youtube. Even if i tried to focus on getting some work done, i get demotivated easily because of the amount of work that is there. I probably failed one math test by the time of writing this, i'm not gonna do something that requires math anyways. It's really ass going to school. I'm not even myself sometimes when i'm with ppl who aren't like-minded just like me. I mean i get that you don't have to have the same interests as me but man it's like learning for the sake of getting good grades. My parents expect me to do well in school but they don't really care about my interests that much, they mostly want me to just get a degree in college and that's it (college isn't a bad thing but my goals are far from that). Most of the time, i think about ending it all but i have to live for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He would want me to keep going, even when things get worse. I'm only living for Him. I know it sounds corny for some of you but He's mostly my motivation for living. I always hated school too so I get your frustration. I have some advice for the critical thinking bit idk if it will help. it sounds like you're getting hung up on real world experience vs pure logic. You got to throw away any actual real life stuff and focus solely on the premises and statements given and assume that they are true. So in the dog example you gotta pretend you have never heard of a dog before and assume that they can fly solely because they told you they can fly. From there it follows that if something is a dog that they can fly. It can be helpful to replace the word dog with a letter like X kinda like how they do in algebra. It doesn't matter what X is because all you need to know is that they can fly. I'm in your discord and I'd be willing to help you study for that kind of stuff if you want. You're probably better at this than you realize, you're just getting tripped up because of how things are worded and how they expect you to throw out real world experience
I agree. Currently 18 in highschool and I’ve been taking some high school classes since middle school. Almost every class seems so useless at this point and that I’m just doing it for credits to graduate. None of these classes are teaching me anything I’d use (except AP psychology) none of these classes are really interesting to me. I am literally only doing it because legally I have to. I should’ve been able to finish school years ago. It all seems useless it all seems monotonous. I can’t help but to think that I could be spending those 8 hours at school, 5 days a week, actually doing something that will benefit my future

If you don't know what you want to do in life don't force yourself to do something you are unsure of. I really just want the school system to cross the line for most kids like no phones in any school across the country because if that were to happen it'd definitely spark a protest and kids would just not go to school. Like for example my school has a rule where in freshman PE you need to wear a red shirt or else you lose a bit of your grade or get Saturday school. i can't focus on my work cause I have zero energy, zero relief, stress whole day, I have to prioritize my few hours of free time for my happiness because i can't get any at school. other people have fun at school but i dont, and I then have no time to study. Then I get to the weekend and I say I'll do my work tomorrow, but I procrastinate. bro I got french. french might be my least favorite class of all time. It's the hardest language course u can take. Generally I agree with you told. I mean 80%-90% of is useless but that example you told us about dog flying etc etc. That's actually important in terms of development. The question seems silly but if you apply to a real world problem you will see how much that logic affects coding, computer and things related...including hacking.
in primary school i hated school for how the teachers acted. in secondary school (which im still in rn) i hate all the subjects that will be completely irrelevant to me in the future but i still get graded for and will still affect my chances of getting into an education system that can let me study the actual subjects i want to study, especially chinese and language subjects in general, and i have no idea why schools put so much emphasis on them even though they are quite literally the least useful to the majority of people. there are some subjects i like (for example math), but the teacher was like "oh the last form of kids who took the math exam didnt get good grades so i will have to start training you guys" and then just gives literally 30-40 questions of homework every single day. i cant even bring myself to like the stuff im learning anymore. i had a chinese dictation last friday, yesterday (which im pretty sure contributed to my lack of sleep) and another one on this friday. i straight up hate that subject because im not good at it and even the teacher literally told my parents they couldnt do anything to help because they had to cater to the other students as well.
at least not everything is bad, there will be a mid term assessment in a week and then it will be easter holiday so i have that to look forward to.

It's not about education at all. Most important things I know that help me in daily life, I learned simply by living, experiencing. The shit you learn in school is useless because you'll forget most of it after some years, and if you don't, others for sure will and so no one cares anyway.
They give you all these things to learn so you have something to write down in the test. In school you don't learn things to know better about certain subjects, you learn so the teachers can measure how disciplined you are to do everything you're told. Because that is what makes a good worker in this day and age. Simply doing whatever you're told, and you get rewarded for that with money. That's what school trains you to do but with grades instead. Rat race.
This year I'm writing straight A's and B's so everybody thinks I just love studying. But I do know that it's stupid as hell. Sadly, and although these two things have little to do with each other if you really think about it, you have to be good in school to be able to do the job you could be really great at naturally. I understand every single person that hates school and get's F's and stays home and what not. It says nothing about them being lazy or undisciplined, but that's what school wants you to believe so there is pressure on you to always keep on studying.

Bro I relate so much. I'm also taking two liberal arts classes rn that I give zero f's about: humanities and art history. I'm getting my degree in product design where I will need neither of these :) . I can't even drop these classes cause they're required. They also have such high expectations too like we're supposed to be reading some book or article every spare second of free time we have away from school. Cudgeling myself by reading books I don't want to read and learning things I don't care about and paying thousands of dollars in the process. By forcing kids to read books of the school's choosing they're discouraging actual critical thinking into topics that we really want to learn more about. Other than that things are going pretty well tbh.

Regarding your critical thinking class, I get that it can seem absurd, though that stuff is important. I'd rather call the course "Introductory logic class" or something like that because what you describe sounds like the basics of classical logic which is fundamental for stuff such as truth tables & boolean algebra; and that stuff is the basis for binary operations which again is useful & important for stuff such as logic gates when it comes to IT.
I get that the statements sound very weird, maybe it helps you to think of them purely as variables since that is what they represent, so "all dogs can fly" just is a stand-in for "A", and it the real-world context of what this phrase says doesn't matter as it's just about the logical connections that these different variables have, whether one follows from the other, whether one implies the other, so on and so forth.
