Operation Branchform widens as costs hit £1.8m in SNP finances investigation

Police Scotland have now spent at least £1.8m on Operation Branchform in a widening of the investigation, which has been ongoing since 2021.
Progress on the probe has stalled in recent months with the Crown Office considering what action to take after Peter Murrell was charged with embezzling from the SNP.

There are a lot more people being investigated than first thought. Going through hundreds if not thousands of financial transactions takes time - especially if most of them may not have been recorded or logged.
Murrell should have been able to show police what account money was kept in, with a few clicks of a computer mouse. He couldn’t.
