great video. i'm moving soon as well (not nearly as far!) and will be taking the advantage of setting up a ministudio. Your set up was very inspiring and gives me quite a few ideas. =)
I see. The funny thing is, I thought I had seen something similar to it in an advertisement when I was looking up the Sepco file holder thing. I'm taking an Ikea trip soon after we move, so here's hoping I find something tall enough. Thanks again, Paolo. =)
Thanks! I decided to get the Safco box, since I have always been looking for one anyway (and it's big enough to put my Epson on). What kind of table do you have everything sitting on? I was sizing out desks that would be tall enough to put everything under it. I'm trying to maximize space since I will be sharing studio space with my wife.
Thanks a bunch! And I agree, I am just starting a project that is gonna require a lot of weaponry reference. Thanks again and hope your move went well.
I highly enjoyed a tour of your work space. I am in the process of figuring out what works for me and my work flow I have been experimenting with magnets on my drawing desk I built I have recessed magnets all over my board at key points and covered them with a thin wood veneer. I like it so far have you had issues with your metal flash rusting and contamination with the water color paper? Thanks again for the inspiration and welcome to the west coast!
Awesome stuff and I love your work! I know you said you usually get them from your folks but do you know where to get the scaled down gun models? Thanks and glad to have you in CA.
I've gotten many off of eBay, others from on-line toy stores or specialty shops. Just search for 1/6 scale weapons and you'll find tons. It helps to have a particular accessory in mind. I recently bought a katana blade that looks pretty sweet.
Paolo, is there any chance of seeing how your metal drawing board attaches to the table or stands on it? Do you have a pic of the back you can show us?
I would take a look at my SF studio tour, as I use a completely different (and much sturdier) method nowadays. It's just a table easel that I bought at an art supply store. This one was just a couple brackets, some masonite, and some binder clips (and used to fall more than I'd like to admit :)
They can be, though I prefer the Winsor & Newton Series 7. The nice thing is they're a lot cheaper. They brush tips are a little squatter, so you might want to try their line of script brushes - they're much longer and leaner.
Hi Paolo, I know I’m commenting on a pretty old video, but could you tell me what brand/where you purchased your drafting table from? I’m struggling to find a decent quality dedicated drafting table.
That table was actually from my parents' art supply store in the 1980s. It served me well for years, but it wasn't anything special. I've seen plenty around that seemed sturdier. I always prefer to have a flat desk, upon which I place a table easel. This one was adjustable, but primarily built to be at an angle.
The 12WX had a bar on the back that I just taped down to the desk. It wasn't the fanciest way to do things, but it worked. I have a 13HD now, which naturally hangs off the table, though only a half an inch.
Ok cool. Mine is being delivered today so ive been reorganising my workspace to have everything accessible, suppose ill just have to wait and see if it all comes together. Have gone with a Belkin n52te keypad for the left hand, hopefully it'll be as useful as I think it will. Many thanks and keep up the great work.
thank you for the tour. I always find it insightful to see an artist studio and see how they do their magic.
Great insight into your process. Thanks!
Good luck out west! Great video!
Glad I could help! Good luck with the move!

It's a drafting table from the 80s. Pretty standard size... maybe 30 x 40 inches?

Good question! Check out the newer studio tour. I've since covered the metal with kraft paper, which I change every few years.

Nice to see a peek behind the curtain!
Very Cool! Thank you.
I use Holbein for pretty much everything, but I also have a full set of Winsor & Newton.

hk holbein rocks! thanks for the reply.you are the batman of the artists
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. It's always nice to see a pros work space. Question, are those black velvet brushes good for inking?

Could you post the link to where you bought the 13x19 flat files? Or maybe just the name of the company that makes it? Thanks

Nice setup! I was wonder how you've attached the cintiq to your desk?
I would like to do the same thing with my 13HD

Great video!
Thanks!
which brands do you prefer for gouache and watercolor sir?
Thanks!
It's from Safco. I just added a link to my blog in the video description. It'll have a list of links for most of the stuff I mentioned.
Thanks! I get most of the guns off eBay, but they've also got a good selection at MonkeyDepot.com.
Ha! Thanks!
The whole set up is awesome, but your gun rack STEALS the show! Thats so cool, teeny lil cute guns. Must be invaluable as reference.
Your Setup looks "well organized" ... I make a deep bow ... SIR!!!
