I'm a retired Ford, Lincoln, Mercury technician and I would've killed to have the windshield out, and both front doors off, to remove and replace a dash...
I totally agree. If it was mine the windshield would be one of the LAST things I would do.

Exactly. I rebuilt a totaled 88 and the dash is one of the biggest PIA things to with the windshield mounted. In fact in a shop like this, I'd do the windshield last.

on my 05 V ls6 built motor and blower I left the maf unplugged and man did that cause some issues I couldnt figure out lol

need to have those rotors safety wired along with lock tight when running the two piece rotors.
from what I saw the bolts aren't drilled for wire, he'll be fine with the 271. Probably.
2 piece rotors are sketch af. Same as 2 piece wheels. Just another possible failure point.

And throughly flush the brake lines and fill with new fluid, because the theirs no viscosity in the old fluid.
Makes the brakes squishy. Braided stainless steel line's would be great addition to.
At 30 years old, replacing the lines and hoses would be right up there with pads, rotors & calipers.

There's always viscosity in fluids, the main problem with brake fluid is that it's hydrophile adn it pulls in water, which in turn has a lower boiling point then the brake fluid, thus creating bubbles. And I totally agree on swapping out the brake lines, could also be a reason why the brakes are squishy, due to the rubber not being able to stand the pressure anymore and bulging.

Slap some modern ZR1 wheels on it. They'll still have the vette center caps in them but look more modern.
The wheels are a different design and they don’t just swap over.

@@darthur8261 same bolt pattern...back spacing would more than likely be an issue tho. They do make those in about a 100 diff backspacing options they just wouldnt be authentic new ZR1 wheels(not that that really matters imo...its all about fitment)
Matt check to see if VATS kicking on my ls build did the same thing had to get it tuned to off
I like how the gun guy knows safety so his car build actually prioritizes brakes before power like builders know is a safe rule of thumb that isn’t always followed

Most cars especially sports cars, brakes do not improve the brake distance a whole lot. They reduce brake fade for extreme consistency throughout the pedal.

C6 limp mode: It could be as simple as a Throttle body sensor.
Sounds sensor related. Timing and fuel delivery affected maybe.
Air flow sensor or maybe fuel filter

You mentioned it had some flood damage? I had a 88 vert... it threw codes... replaced the MAP..... eventually just replaced the ECM too... I'd replace the ECM.... especially since its under the passenger seat and likely sat in water when the car got flooded.......

10:26 that paint needs to be 2 pack enamel, otherwise when the windshield guys go to prime it, that rattle can paint will just come off and your windshield will become loose

He could’ve also gone with some self etching 2K primer for Raw metal. It has a nice build and will prevent rust from reoccurring. Also the windshield glue will sit on it very well.
@@vicdiaz5180 Etching primer does come in rattle cans... But in any case you can really just wire wheel the painted area and clean with ethanol just before they put in the adhesive. By design there isn't gonna be any water going there anyway.
HMan may not be any water, but the primer we use isn’t that great for preventing rust, so needs to be done properly to prevent rust

That slab might not be suitable for a lift. He may need to wait until the shop gets built out at the mansion or chop out/re-pour a thicker section of slab in the old shop.

Get some Brixton forged wheels they make great wheels they also make great sticky tires for drifting if you wanna use them for the burnout car. Love the OffTheRanch, Demolition Ranch, Vet Ranch, Renavation Ranch, and Demolition Wrench vids keep up the great work.

As a fellow c4 ZR-1 owner I second the OZ Mitos or Futuras. I also like the look of Fiske FM-5's .... Also equally import is the diameter to look period correct I feel you shouldn't go any bigger than 18's
Drag Custom wheels are awesome! Lots of designs in whatever pattern you want. I have some sweet black with blue line ones on my Ultima.

Going in to limp mode more than likely will be either the throttle body which is fly by wire or wiring to the throttle body or the app sensor aka gas pedal. Codes will help narrow it down. Keep up the awesome work.
If the brakes are squishy, replacing the discs and calipers isn't going to help. Squishy brakes are usually caused by hydraulic problems - leaking lines or cylinders or master cylinder.
15:30 Your brake discs are on the wrong side... Spiral cut need to be matching the direction of wheel spin... Fix it!!!

They look like he put them on correct to me. I mean I can’t see the internal vents to be 100% positive but every set I’ve installed so far the vents are the opposite way of the holes and slots. I could be wrong but I’d say they are on correct the way he has them.

UV protective film is to protect the Dash and interior vinyl from drying out and Cracking which happens in all the Western and Southern States.
Its more for heat inside the car in general

Doesn't glass stop UV light anyways? Also if it is UV protective film it would only block UV light not infrared light, so for heat it wouldn't work

I love the new fur baby. A very different breed from Dozer...and a total ragamuffin. Yea, more trips to the groomer. If she shears, just cut her way back when it's warm. I have a Pinkapoo..she shears just a tad, and sheeting in the summer works well. I even had a border collie mix...she shead little when cut back. Good move on the Vette motor...it will be a beast.

Should've done new wheel bearings while you had it apart. Especially since I believe you mentioned this car having water damage so the grease packed in the bearings might be next to nothing at this point.

I'm pretty sure since it doesnt have the bumpers on or sensors that could be throwing it into limp you might have to bypass some stuff
I'd recommend checking all sensors, getting the scan tool will really help pinpoint the one that settings it onto limp mode
@camjamsdad yep exactly it shouldn't have anything to do with the motor not running right its that the car has been in a accident and sensors need replaced or it senses a air bag like you said

He's going to wrap it, not paint it(because painting it would require a lot of sanding to remove the clear coat to remove the decals).

As before mentioned put stainless braided flex lines to the calipers. It'll also help firm up the pedal a little.

Message me on the sale of the ZR1 rims when you do come time to replace them my father has a C4 Vette that is not a ZR1 but ZR1 rims are something that he is wanted for over 30 years

I think C5 corvette wheels would look really good on the C4 ZR1 they are the same 5 spokes they are just a little thinner since you want to show the brakes a little more I recommend them instead
Owning and restoring a 79 corvette was my dream since i was 5 years old with my little c3 corvette toy. Purchased a 79 vette about 5 months ago and unfortunately theres a whole lot more wrong with it then was originally said, now im underwater with it and its sitting :/ I hope your vettes come out fantastic! Lookin forward to seeing more videos

That thing I noticed with corvettes is putting the next models wheels on the cars look good as well That motor needs a blower on it.
