Chantelle is accurate , South africa has no beauty standards honestly . South africa does not really have people who have pale skin so i think we would also be concerned because like why😯

I'm from SA and considered pale, but I have rosacea on my cheeks which means at least I don't get comments about looking sickly. However my cousin is even more paler than me and I know she was bullied a lot for it in school. :( She's much more comfortable in her pale skin now.
So there's a few of us in SA :) (Also we don't really get much tanner in the summer. We just get sunburn.)

I think the reason that South Africa, UK and USA have more diverse standard of beauty is because they are a heterogeneous society, many different ethnicities while East Asian countries like Korea, Japan, and China are homogeneous societies, almost everyone has the same skin tone, hair colour, facial features. Having said that because of globalisation, I think the beauty standard slowly becoming somewhat uniform

It’s a little surreal watching three beautiful people talking about plastic surgery!
History: in pre-industrial Europe, the poor worked outside in the fields, smithies, etc and were therefore tanned. The rich who didn’t work (they lived off rent), spent lots of time indoors and were therefore pale. So the fashion was the whiter, the better. With industrialisation, the poor worked in mines and factories and were pale. Spending time outdoors became the province of the idle rich, who could spend while away the hours horse riding, playing tennis or golf, swimming and other healthy pursuits. So tan became the fashion.

That's a interesting video (I'm pretty happy to know that South Africa embraces all of types of beauty 😊), I'm Brazilian and even we have a big mix of races it doesn't reflect in the beauty standard, unfortunately.
Beauty standard is something always let me scared, because I knew it would never be me. I grew up believing I was the ugliest person on Earth, I was weird or something like that. People have been stared at me like I was an alien my whole life... so I just believed that. "Your skin is too white", "you're eyes are too small", "your nose is too big".
I would never be enough or pretty or whatever. Beauty standards traumatized my childhood.
I'm ok now, I love myself and I just told it to say, please, don't believe if someone say you wasn't beautiful, you all are beautiful the way you are and don't let no one say you wasn't, ok? You guys are more than a beauty standard.

South Africans i understand that South Africa definitely has great diversity but how can we forget societal narratives that say lighter women,*yellow bones* are more attractive than dark-skinned women or that, curvy-body shapes are considered to be more desirable than being fat or skinny, though being skinny is still considered more desirable than being fat, in south africa beauty standards are not explicitly defined but they are definitely there, where a certain look is considered more beautiful than others, however I must say we have come very far as a country in trying to redefine these stereotypes and that we are becoming more accepting of the different variations of beauty within our Country.

It is sad that nowadays at such a young age teens or young adults are brought up to such high standards in terms of beauty. It also doesn’t help when there are advertisements that advertise one type of beauty standard that is seen as the “norm” to target such people who may be in a vulnerable time period. Great video to reflect on. Keep up the great work ☺️💚

Barbra Streisand was asked many years ago when her career was at a pinnacle, whether she had considered getting a nose job. She replied that she had thought about it but decided against it, because when you sing, your nose affects the tone of your voice. If she had a nose job, that might take away all the recognisable character of her voice, and since God gave her the talent, she didn’t want to mess with that.

Here in the states I see more eclectic beauty styles (in the every day people not Hollywood) nowadays and definitely more eclectic than when I was growing up. In my day...hahaha...one should be tall, blonde, thin, and straight hair (I had the thin); think of Twiggy :-) (she was a famous model; Sam, there is a museum in York that we visited and I think they had a display there about Twiggy and in the fashion museum in Bath). I really appreciate the trend in the last years that seems to celebrate what someone naturally looks like; at least, that's what I get from listening to our grandkids.

This statement is from someone who is Bald. I wish I had my Hair back and could do something about it by Surgical Procedures. I just look on the bright side that styling my Hair takes me about 2 seconds! LOL!

To the Beverly Hills plastic surgery scene, Miami says hold my beer.

Actually Florida is the #1 spot for plastic surgeries in the USA because it’s more affordable to the masses But Cali gets the most because it includes things like Botox, etc which are more or less procedures rather than full on surgeries.

When Sam said that people with really pale skins are less pretty
Me: bra, you're from England. Your skins never see the sun! You look like vampires.
So what constitutes as "pale" in England? Nvm I'm too afraid to know.

    • @TinyToonStar
      @TinyToonStar 3 года назад

I was thinking like sickly pale. Like so pale if you haven't gotten any sleep or aren't feeling well people can see it instantly on your face

Just normal skin colours here are seen as ugly so a lot of pale people tan. It’s very sad actually bc pale skin is very pretty.
