So thrilled to hear that the park ranger told you of all the dangers you were in. I hope it was a very short. Of time before the both of you left the area. You're both young but if you know anything about cartel it's absolutely not something you want to deal with. They are extremely dangerous and known for kidnapping and killing people. Also you mentioned the other strange guy that kept coming around. I know you love the site where you're at but you should have both got in your vehicles and move to a different when that wierdo came around it's just not worth taking a chance. You're both young but please do not ever take your safety for granted. It only takes one mistake or being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I love your channel and love watching your adventures and just want you to be safe. Sounds like you had quite an eventful week overall so hopefully the weeks ahead will be much less eventful. Safe journeys in please keep yourself safe. 🙏🙏

Hi. You mentioned in a video that I watched earlier that you like period history novels or tv so I want to mention an author whom I’ve loved since the sixties when I was about your age (guessing, as I do not know your age ). She was Victoria Holt, British, and she wrote several Gothic mysteries. I collected the entire series one by one and loved them all. In fact, I’m currently rereading them as I no longer remember them in detail and am starting over. She did have two pen names as well and wrote other interesting and kind of similar books using those names. The first of Victoria’s books is Mistress of Mellyn. Perhaps if you’re interested in checking them out you might possibly run across them but I don’t know if they’re still out there or not. I’m enjoying your van life videos. Much happiness to you as you continue.

What an ordeal Julia! I'm glad Renogy finally honored their warranty, I remember another vanlifer had issues with them not backing up their products. Smart idea to go with two smaller panels, they won't flex as much. Hopefully they hold up! Great job on the deck and mounting, at least you got a nice little upgrade out of it. Stay safe out there, it was good that you had a friend with you during a potentially scary encounter and also to lend a hand on your electrical fix!

There's a better form of pepper irritant deployment that you should look into. It's the Byrna Launcher system and it's way more effective at a longer range than that tiny canister you were clutching!

Wow, your experience with the solar panel freaked me out. I have a 100W panel on my SUV and was planning to upgrade to a 200W. I always assumed the panel frame was strong enough but your experience has me concerned. Maybe I should reinforce the frame. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Have you looked into flexible solar panels? Another van lifer uses them and showed how much more durable they are.

I LOVED Queen Charlotte!!!! So did Renolgy honor the replacement? It's funny, I am having issues with my battery so I called them. I wanted to order another battery she suggested I go through amazon. So weird because it's shipping from CA, and taking forever!

Since it's nice to have a rooftop deck but you also don't want to walk or sit on your solar panels when you're up there or lose solar capacity to clear a space to sit on, I wonder if it's feasible to have sliding "outrigger" panels similar to slide-out cabinet shelves or drawers that would normally be located on top of the van when driving or when you're parked and not using the roof deck, but which could slide out when you are using the deck and thus be out of the way but still functional and charging your batteries. Just a thought.
Btw nice work on installing the new panels and deck. I have Milwaukee tools myself and they're great, but if you ever have the chance or need you might find that their 12V M12 Fuel line of tools are more suitable for your situation since they're smaller and lighter and thus are easier to use and take up less space while being stored, and they're just as powerful as the 18V M18 versions for the kind of work that you're likely to do with them. I've gotten a bunch of them myself recently and love them. They also do double duty work for basic van maintenance and repair jobs, which is what I got them for (for cars though but same idea).
Also, regarding that unfortunate incident early in the video, always always always scan where you're thinking of parking for the night or even day for anything or anyone that might be trouble. I drove across the country many years ago in a mini version of what you're doing and often camped along the way, and there were occasions where I considered packing up and leaving and sometimes did, because it just didn't feel right somehow. Safety comes before everything else.
I particularly remember this one older man in a van next to my campsite who was literally preaching religion to his dog. Weird, of course, but he didn't seem dangerous so I stayed the night but didn't sleep well, and the next morning I broke camp and left quite early. Nothing happened but it just didn't feel right.

Well so much for saving the planet with solar panels it'll's you're hazardous waste. Can you imagine what's gonna happen when we have to start throwing these things away? Let alone the pollution that's caused and created when they're built.
