I went to MCRD San Diego for boot camp in 1998...I recently reconnected with a fellow recruit from my platoon...he ended up becoming a drill instructor in San Diego, and at DI School, his instructor was our Heavy Hat while we were in boot camp...GySgt. Mathern. Talk about coming full circle. Small world. Semper Fi Marines!
I wished i stayed in to fulfill my dream of being a D.I. My recruiter told me that with my personality, i would be perfect for it. I left the Corps and became a State Trooper. Sort of a D. i. Wearing a campaign hat, Just chewing out lawless motorists! 😂
Honestly I think there should be a mini boot camp orientation at least every 2 years for fleet marines to keep that discipline and integrity up. Too many marines getting in trouble and making bad decisions nowadays
Nothing is easy in the Marine Corps and I mean nothing. You earn everything in the corps through sweat and perseverance. You gotta want it and want it bad. I miss it ......
I would not make it. That's going through boot camp twice. Physically I could do it (well, back in the day, could have done it 😄), but I have a very sensitive BS meter that has not gotten less sensitive with age. Almost got kicked out of LA County Sheriff's Academy for showing up with one shoe spit shined to a high gloss and the other one the polish not even brushed off just to mess with the TAC staff. Or maybe it was the time I put Indian ink at strategic points of my sidearm so when they ran their white gloves over it looking for "dirt" they got their gloves ruined. Or maybe it was the time there was that wax plug in the barrel. Or maybe it was early on when they picked me to be class sergeant and were all over me like white on rice because I showed about as much aptitude for the job as Gomer Pyle. But the next day I was as together as Jack Webb in The DI or R. Lee Ermey. However I graduated 2nd in three categories; Academics; Fire arms and PT. So they were forced to give me the all around recruit honor. Oh, and 1st for having the thickest "counseling" packet in the academy. 😄
Went through Boot Camp at MCRD San Diego then through "boot camp" again at Sergeants Course at Camp Geiger, I don't think that I would have made it through "boot camp" again going through Drill Instructor School, you needed a spine of steel for that.
Di Bo Chet -- That was at least three years ago so why not reapply? Back when I was in (pushing fifty years) they would take a volunteer any day over some being drafted to go to the drill field. If you are close to your EAS you could make that part of your re-enlistment package. If all else fails, request mast to the commanding general of your command. I can't say how it is today but back in the day promotions in the 03 field were very slow! A successful tour of duty on the drill field will speed up your promotions substantially. Go for it! Semper Fi brother.
I remember the first day/night, think i went to sleep at 0200 and was up at 0400 for the PFT! Don’t miss teach backs whatsoever!!! Class 2-15, Alpha Company!!
Getting treated like shit again lol. I guess they're trying to make you disgruntled on top of the shenanigans from the Fleet. It all combines together to make you eventually super-pissed on DI duty. so you can kkll

I thought about going to DI school. The only thing about my time in the Corps I regret is not doing this. Semper Fi to my Marine Corps family.
