      I remember what it was like at the end of the cold war. Gorbachev was a man who loved peace and loved his country and brought about a change many of us didn't think was possible. I greatly admire him for what he did, and I feel sorry that he lived to see so much of his work undone.

    I visited Ronald Reagan's gravesite at the Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. There is a section of the actual Berlin Wall just a few feet away from his gravesite. Very emotional.

    A memorable moment - I was 12 years old, and our family had relatives in east germany. I remember vividly about 1985 when my dad an I picked up an "aunt" from Rostock at Frankfurt main train station. It was something special - she had to file a lot of documents just to visit her relatives for a week or so. Prior to that, my Grandma and I regulary send packages with coffee, choclate, fruits etc. on special occasions like Christmas or Easter. It was really a weird time back then.

    As a female Marine, I was proud to stand in formation for almost 3 hours while this man spoke. Now- 15Jun22- I would probably go AWOL instead. Great post- thank you. (P.S.- Kenneth Busler, below is right- I still think such a monumental slice of History makes for Goosebumps- :) )

    Gorbachev, in an interview with BBC News, took credit for tearing down the wall and never mentioned Reagan. He also made a comment about the U.S. dropping the bomb on Japan because we wanted to show other countries that they'd have to obey us or get a bomb. He didn't mention the millions of Russians we saved because of it.

    I still get chills from this speech! While living in Basel, Switzerland, at the time. I remember seeing a marquee while waiting for a train to Zurich. ""THE MIGHTY WALL COMES CRUMBLING DOWN!" Was what flashed across. I remember seeing that and being choked up and thought "It's about time!"
