  • Extended Warranty? Buyer Beware! Many of these are not what they seem. Here is my experience with an extended warranty. I came out on the losing end, but you can learn from my mistakes in less than four minutes.

Thank you kind sir --- this was helpful. F*ck Lowe's and f*ck the concept of the extended warranty... Thank you for keeping me from getting screwed.

Good video. My feelings are extended warranties are right up there with home warranties that never pay when you need them. I'm with you, I pocket that money for a rainy day. It's always easier and more convenient dealing with a vender you chose for a problem than waiting for one of these clowns to come out and find some reason to reject your claim. There really should be some strong regulation against these scams.

The punked us too - for over $300 - Freezer stopped working. They sent a service company, company said "Sealed Service Issue, can't be fixed, replace fridge". Lowe's would not admit that they received this service from the service company, so we then asked for another service. They said there is another company that they must sent, the 2nd company did not show up and the phone number for the company they gave was fake "the number you dialed could not be reached" when dialed.

Unfortunately it's likely that the plastic part may have been broken accidentally. This would not be covered under warranty. True, the drawer will continue to function. Although it would be difficult to use. I would have suggested that you contact the manufacturer and ask if they would supply the part. Even if you had to pay a portion of the cost it would be worth it. Extended warranty should be purchased for the functionality of the appliance. If it had stopped keeping your food cold, that would be another matter. Every time I purchased an extended warranty I needed it. I did get the product replaced each time as well.

I am ok if they don't cover plastic parts, or drawers, or whatever they want to exclude, as long as they say that somewhere in the fine print. In this case, they did not state anything like this anywhere. That is the deceptive nature of this particular extended warranty. It leads you to believe that 'everything' is covered, when in fact that is not true. I ended up buying the part, and it was less than $70... for Lowes, the cost probably would be under $40, so to create such a poor customer experience to avoid paying $40, well, that is up to Lowes... my main beef is, if they dont want to cover the drawers, then say so in the fine print of the ext. warranty... sure I would have missed it at the time I bought the warranty, but once they pointed that out, I would have accepted it without any issue.

I bought the 5 year warranty. They will not stand behind it. They told me to buy another refrigerator. It is a scam.

Nice video! Thanks for posting! Ya know I’m fixing to buy an Arien’s Zero Turn from Lowe’s and factored in a “3yr extended warranty” that’s around $400. So I’ll just do as you say and save that money for a rainy day repair when this mower needs it! 👍🏼

Remember when appliances lasted for decades? Both my washer & dryer date back to the 1980s.
I dont think it's any different for any extended warranties. Lots of exclusions written in language that is totally subjective. Good luck getting anything repaired or replaced under them. My advice is to never buy them.

So m6 diahwasher has been out for 2 months with a shorted wire. Still waiting even after some repairs. I happened to call an independent appliance store for a potable one and they have new scratch n dent machines for 250 dollars. I think i will go that route nothing is made to last.

THANK YOU! I was struggling between Lowes or Best Buy. Geek Squad is the best! Have you had any experience with extended warranties from PC Richards or Home Depot?

I havent used any ext warranties from other places after that, however, I think a similar experience could be had from any of these stores as the warranty companies are usually third-party companies that seem to make their own rules as they go along. The kicker is that the dollar amount I described in this video was about $70, which means it probably would have cost Lowes $40 to make this right for me, but as a result of what they did, Im unlikely to ever shop there again unless there is a super compelling reason. Im staying away from ext. warranties whenever I can from now on.
