I think that's disgusting his coach just severed ties with him. People with an addiction need help and often sport offers that, in the form of disapline. He should've said 'what do you need from me? I'll give you that and you can come back and train if you promise you'll stay clean' and got him professional mental health help. If he claims he had a relationship with Todd then he should've given a shit and not just cut him out of his life as some sort of bastardised, sick, 'tough love' idea.
I totally agree! I work with school systems and things have changed for the better now. More services and supports are in place and (thanks to lawsuits from parents of other students suffering from addiction) coaches and teachers have to respond in a therapeutic manner. As a recovering addict myself, I can testify that athletics is a truly effective recovery tool.

The first was the day I got sober.
The second the day I finished Ironman Mont Tremblant.

Brilliant! 💪👍 Well Done TODD!
I've been doing IM for 20 years. I know all the stories and cliches; I can tell you that this man has to be one of the coolest mofo's in the sport.
Once you lose the prime years in your life through any addiction it leaves a mark forever.I know.
Awesome story--keep it up Todd! You inspire.

His coach is entitled whatever decision he thought best

You're pretty soft for this sport. Only short term. Hard crash.
