Reviving a DESTROYED Jeep that BURNT DOWN in a FIRE

- This 1940's Willys Jeep was stationed in a home garage. When the place went up in flames, the Jeep burnt to the ground. I accept the daunting opportunity to bring it back to life.

Most vehicles are made from mild steel, which has a low carbon content. Heating it to red or even hotter does not alter its tensile strength after it has cooled. Mild steel cannot be hardened and / or tempered - it will not become brittle even if quenched rapidly from white hot. My point is that the body of a burnt out vehicle is just as strong after the fire as it was before burning. The only change is that pressed body panels will distort as the stresses will be released by the heat.
@Bob Bailey I was literally about to write the EXACT same comment. I am an aerospace engineer with a masters degree so I have a bit of expertise to verify that you are 100% correct! It frustrates me to no end this stigma around burnt vehicles.
The biggest issue with fire damaged steel is the accelerated oxidation. Hence why you see patches of the body that have been eaten through. If this happens to the frame or other structural components it can be problematic. Also any springs or hardened gears or parts are at risk, as are aluminum or any other lower melting point metals.
Thanks Bob ,,, you give me hope
Good metallurgist.
Exactly !!!! This is how we heat shrinking warped panels during the restoration of our Jeeps !!!!
Great work and very inspirational to me for sure! Thank you!!
WOW!!!! I am really impressed!!! You really know what you are talking about!!!! Awesome video!!!!!
This is a good video of restoration old JEEP. I like it too much.
Thanks for the video. Ive always wondered if a crispy critter could be resurected. Trl m8r rescued a jeep in similar condition. Keep up the good work.
What a shame, as i can see it, this was a really decent example before the fire. Oh, well, at least it gets another life and it won't get scrapped.
Nice work man, much respect from the UK👍👍👍
You have the best jeep revival videos, i love the channel 🇺🇲
Truth that jeeps don't die no matter what
Man, I really want a Willy’s jeep. WWII is what I would want but I don’t have the space.
That's a save for the books!! Most of the water probably came from putting out the fire. Great video 👀👀👍👍
JC Whitney springs, super cool. I bought a lot from them back in the day. One of the last things was a pair of lowering blocks and U bolts for the 53 Plymouth coupe I still have
Great job! Was very interesting. Thank you.
Nice Spray it down with Fluid film Use for Go to the Mail Box, or Loaf bread.. or just fun trail ride...
I bet you could straighten that windshield frame back out a good bit. Take it off and put some weight on it to make it stand back up straight.
Great video and really inspiring. Just subbed. Watched your videos before but when you changed your channel name I guess I lost ya. Like how you make the videos family friendly. Nice work fixing up the Jeep. Take care and happy wrenching 🙂👍
here ya go too bad no serial numbers or contact the Army Jeep museum and see if they can help on this one ruclips.net/video/HIBfU2lSfkY/видео.html
So the body panels and frame are fine as these bodies were never hardened they are still as sound as bed the fire. The hardware and leaf springs not so much same with seals bearings and fluids.. I’d replace all seals and bearings. The engine with heat may have warped the block or head but should still run as the tolerances were not as small as today’s engines. Id personally pop the head off and check the plain if it’s not warped new head gasket and send it as long as the valves and everything else checks out. Essentially she’s worth a restoration given the year and make of the Jeep.
Next of my Willies will be made up like this, I promise! ;-) The best for me is, that yours can go on!
Very informative and well said
It looks like a Jeep, ( Christine ) scary cool. 👍
Love this project!!!
Fire heated motors are a good engine, those are a continental designed motor used in nash , rambler , jeeps almost indestructible
you should build a nuffield lightweight jeep replica. maybe not with this one but with all the jeeps you go through shouldnt be too hard to come up with some parts
Someone did build one
Love the copper brake lines
Awesome job bringing the Jeep back from the dead
Great stuff!!!!
It’s just steel not tempered steel, it’s fine
nice save
Looks like a jeep left on the battlefield
Hi, I could be interested by the GPW head gasket…
very nice your work
Cj2a great restoration project
How about the metal strength properties of the body, the chassis and various cmponents after their burning ?
It all depends on the fire heat, location etc. This Jeep probably has some integrity issues on the front section compared to the rear. However, we beat the snot out of it and it held up exceptionally well
@@TurnNBurn from what I know only hardenet metals loose they're strength when you heat them and let them cool down slowly but normal metal doesn't change because of heat. Why would there be structural problems with this jeep? OK you would have to use new nuts and bolt because they're hardenet but that's it.
I don't know I think it will buff out !
Looks like it was swamped before it was parked and burnt. I have seen diffs in better condition that have been swamped and left.
How much time do you have into this? Well done as always!
About 4 hard weeks of working every night, and $2,000 total including vehicle and parts.
@@TurnNBurn that’s a little less than I imagined. You’re truly all over these things, outstanding information and work ethic. Helps to have a great shop and the equipment but without your knowledge it’s meaningless.
Really enjoy your videos, and I’m not a keep guy :)
Cheers from another land
The burned up Jeep couldn’t have cost much more than scrap price. The average guy not like us would sell it to the metal guy. Great job on the Phoenix Jeep
Im liking you channel a lot. I live in Southern IL. Any chance of us wheeling with you some day?
For sure, there are group rides posted on thecj2apage
That is one rusty willys but fire does that.and a Lincoln locker
bro spawned an gmod prop and revive it 💀
I'm in the market for an inner windshield frame ...I have good axles...hit me up ...I have more parts

I love this video, that Jeep is burned worse than mine.
It will work
lol was it burnt or flooded? so much water!
Minutes: 15:10 they tried to make it automatic that's why they move together
Do you need a drum brake of one? There's one in the forest near my village. Left about late 60's or so.
I do not but thanks!
@@TurnNBurn You're welcome :)
Distinctive Mad Max look.
Where do you get all of your jeeps?
Facebook marketplace
@@TurnNBurn thanks
The gas tank is on that side
Unlike the 41 this one could be rebuilt or a good Dona
You've got your brake shoes on backwards. The short shoe goes to the front.
Not on a Willys
👍👍
Шикарно братка
Isn’t that a 1946 willys jeep CJ-2A? And also the civilian jeep Becuase it has a trunk door thing. And also late war engine
Are you going to restore the body soon?
I sold the Jeep to someone who replaced the floors, but kept the burnt look. Perfect person to own it.
Dude sounds like Matt from bleepinjeep
Nice junker rebuild
Do you think that a 1970 cj5 with a fairly rough body is worth $2300
If it has a T98 4-speed transmission yes. If 3 speed then no way
I have a dr. Pepper overflow bottle in my toyota
