Another info : The Chaliyar River is approximately 25 kilometers from the disaster site, which means that the full and partial body parts of the victims may have traveled a significant distance through the river. This highlights the severity of the disaster and the potential impact on the surrounding environment and communities downstream. The fact that body parts have traveled 25 kilometers through the river suggests that: 1. The force of the landslide or flood was extremely powerful, causing widespread destruction and displacement of human remains. 2. The river's flow and currents carried the remains a considerable distance, making recovery and identification more challenging. 3. There may be a significant impact on the river's ecosystem and water quality due to the presence of human remains and other debris. It is not landslide as usual. There is a cloud burst at the top of the hills cluster feeding Chaliyaar and Kabbini river as well as small Kuttiyadi river located in the SW slope of whole mountain complex. Topsoil not able to hold together on such slash of heavy rain fall just in few hours. Uttarkhand tragedy, last year HP Jhelum river tragedy, etc are result of huge cloud burst. The place is classified as unsuitable for living conditions. Disaster management reports have classified the area as high-risk, unsuitable for habitation, homestays, or resorts. A landslide occurred there once in the 1980s, and again in the 19, 20. Despite this, people continue to acquire land and build homes, while many estates have been converted into resorts and homestays. A collector once intervened to stop these activities but was transferred shortly after. Politicians and real estate developers are aware of the risks but prioritize profits over people's lives.

In addition, Kerala's hilly regions have slopes of more than 20 degrees; these two factors may contribute to the increased risk of flash floods during heavy rains.[11] According to the Geological Survey of India, a total of 19,301 km2 (7,452 sq mi), or 49.7% of Kerala's total area, falls within landslide-prone areas.[12]
