Pure fucking genius That with the baby could have sth to do with object permanence btw. the baby laughs because it thinks you disappear, but then you pop up again, so in a sense it laughs at consecutively seeing you "again"
Mostly it's the reversal n set up/payoff. He peeps to the right twice, setting up a direction in that the baby expects you to peep to the right again, but then u reverse his expectation by peeping to the left, equivalent to the payoff/ punchline of a jpke. Works with magic (the prestige) storytelling (the reversal), rhyming poetry( unexpected rhyme), thus music, and ofc comedy (punchline)
Let's be honest about it... It's the world that fuels all the jokester business... Comedians only describe it while watching the world through their glasses.
Checking in nearly a decade later, he's STILL alive now despite his best efforts to die and be free of us. How does it feel knowing you were inevitably and EVENTUALLY right but off by a still currently increasing margin as he continues to live with each passing moment?
Could somebody kindly just provide me a transcript verbatim of what John Cleese says here when the question , 'Why are jokes funny?' is posed to him? I'll remain highly obliged. I gather he's talking balderdash here, but I am yearning to know what he said nonetheless.
If you turn on the captions it surprisingly catches a good chunk of it. It's not perfect but it makes filling in the blanks easier. And yes what he says is complete nonsense, literally random words.
@@Beefnhammer Oh my goodness, that's brilliant with the captions - why didn't I think of that! It's even funnier to me that way because he really is spouting gibberish, mostly not actual words, but when the algorithms try to assign words to it they're absolutely hilarious!
whene the teacher asks u about a thing u didnt study .
I was there, still smiling!
ogietheman lucky duck
John taking a page from Eric's book at the beginning.
I didn’t know this John Hodgman guy, but he seems to be good too

Humor has something to do at a deep level with the violation of expectations.

I honestly didn't know John Cleese was still alive.
The Pythons did their last show together a couple months ago.
The fact that he didn't die is a bit of a clue

Translation: Jokes are funny cause they are silly.
Racist jokes are ridiculuous...but people who like them don't realise this, so that can't be what they're laughing at.
What the hell was his first response? I couldn't understand a word
Oh I misread John Goodman
Jokes are funny because they are absurd, overblown and surprising.
I was surprised as my girlfriend came in with her new boyfriend. It was not funny.
