Lyrics
I remember quite well
The first time I took you home
We were so young
I didn't think much of you
Sure you were cute and full of tricks
And a whole lot brighter than a guinea pig
But I didn't think much of you back then
And I think you loved me first
Cause it sure took me a while
To figure out
That you were kinda special
But now you're old and full of ticks
And you yell at everybody just for kicks
And I wish that you would just shut up
Why do you scream at me
Why do you scream
I don't know why you have to do that
Cause things don't seem
All that bad to me
Oh I'm beggin' you please
Baby please don't scream
Do you remember that old cat
Who beat you up so bad
You almost didn't make it
I almost couldn't take it
But now you're mean and paranoid
There's not a piece of this house that you haven't destroyed
And I wish that you would just shut up.
You know I've loved a lot of men
And moved far away from them
And I hate to say it
But you're my oldest friend
And I'm glad you're around
Cause you still know how to make my favorite sound
But then I wish that you would just shut up.

And her voice - powerful and more expressive.
It is different but I like it
It's just plain unfair to other singers that Nataly can sing country this well, on top of everything else.
When are you coming to Brasil?
on itunes. real
Isn't it Cleo the cat?
Her thousand yard stare and prefect diction is absolutely mesmerizing !
Now that I know this is about your cat, I have a whole different perspective on this song.
YIHAA!! My feet started rocking without my help from the first few notes! I am SO looking forward to the album! If I should rate this song from a scale from 1 to 5, where 5 is best, I would rate this to 12!
I need to wash the t-shirt again, since I have had it on too long...
I like to tell everyone that I just love Nataly Dawn (or hate money) :D
Just because they work together doesn't mean it's automatically Pomplamoose. Especially since the styles are so different in Jack and Nataly's solo work than what you hear from Pomplamoose. Nataly's helped Jack out with his own stuff too. :)
Playing this to my cat.
living the dream
Why is it that I never listen just once but keep replaying every new music video from Pomplamoose?
it's been a long time since i've heard this kind of music..if u're famous and go mainstream, pls dont change urself because the producer ask you to change, music is one way to express urself,if ur producer ask to play his song, then it mean u are expressing him,not u..pls dont change ur way of music.we like this
"Holy sh** Ryan! That was awesome!!
Can we do one more take?..."
Poor Ryan lol.
Ryan you were awesomee!
I've listened to this song an unhealthy amount of times already.
That awkward moment when you find this song while watching Saw.
And a mix between Steven Tyler and Keith Richards on drums
She is describing a dog or at least I hope
Awesome track!
I like so much of all your songs. One time, I heard a song of pomplamoose playing at a shopping in Brazil. Congratulations, your songs are making success here. I'm sorry for the orthographics wrongs. I'm learning english yet. x]
Nataly I used one of your songs in my makeup tutorial I left a video response for you to see and I gave you credit in my description please don't report me and have my account suspended.....lol
I hate to sound like a hipster, but I just had that feel of 'I've listened to her since when she first started!' And it doesn't make me feel old, just like I have good taste in music. Great stuff.
Love this.
The lyrics are *almost* a little clumsy in the chorus, but in a way that feels natural for the style, if that makes sense?
Awesomeness all around.
I have watched your live work too...you are the real deal..see you at the top unless you want to mix with The Raw Product now...just saying
great singing and production. but please be careful with that "eyes thing", it seems unnatural in such an amount))
This is great!
I really want to get the CD but I'm in the UK, is that and the pre-order stuff available?
Hmmm, I noticed that you have two microphones there while your recording. Is there a reason for this?
this is a good song.
Aaaan... Preordered the CD bundle. Thanks for making quality kick-ass music, Nataly!
Also, how come Jack can rock pretty much anything he touches? He's wielding that wooden plank like a badass! Anyway, say amazing ;)
Great, Nataly. This song could be about my little twenty year old dog. I got her when she was a pup, she did just destroy everything and now, in her old age she doesn't bark anymore, she screams like a banshee who's being murdered. The sound's enough to send me right up to the ceiling minus my skin. When she shrieks I know my neighbors think I'm doing something heinous to her. Truth is though, that little old dog IS my oldest friend, I love her dearly. I do, however wish she would just shut up!
I'm always always thrilled by Nataly's voice and Jack's orchestrations (and most times also by Nataly's compositions) and this was no exception.
The exception here is that I wasn't surprised by any unexpected twist in either melody or harmony. I have close to no musical background, though, apart from being a listener and follower of mostly classical music, so I know I may be missing some subtleties. Please be free to point me out the real culprits of this song.
That's a great question. Two different microphones (even in the same place) means you're getting two independent versions of the same thing. Each mic "hears" differently. In this video, Nataly is using a Shure mic (the black one) and a Neumann -or AKG - can't tell (the vertical, beige colored one). In post production, you can lean each mic track a little in opposite directions from each other and it creates a nice stereo effect.
I love that you just got a lot of your friends to help with the instrumentation.
Nataly, I wanted to see Pomplamoose play in Brooklyn about 2 years ago, but it was an 18+ event.
I wanted to see you play in New York on this tour, because I'd be on break from school and I'd be home just in time to see you, but this show is a 21+ event.
Not to disparage you, your efforts, or your tour, but pleeaase try to book venues without age specifications!
"Culprits"?!
I meant *highlights*. I have no idea where the heck I got the word "culprit" from. Paraphrasing SPLEclipse (thanks for the answer), the song is *at least* a good take on a classic 12-bar blues progression. So no culprits at all, of course! (except maybe those who created the now stale progression). Sorry for my English.
I bought it on Itunes and eveerything I didn't steal it or claim it as my own!
Which notes?! ;)
This is truly awesome. And I must agree with Wesley P... The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia would be a bitchin re-interpretation (I can't call your work covers) for you, if you are not moving beyond covers. Errr, re-interpretations. Much love from SoCal.
I am a kickstarter to her project, and I can say that many kickstarters were
disappointed. We didn't sign up to kick start a project to fund someone to get a music label deal. The latest email dares to ask us to pre order an album from iTunes. Again, disappointed for such a sell out.
I SWEAR TO GOD If there was ever a song written for me......this is it!!!!
idk a couple of those at the end solo sound kinda forced to me, but like i said, i dont give a sht, big fan here. awesome solo, especially if it was improvised, maybe my ear is the one messing up notes. keep on rocking, ive got such a man crush on you.
It is a common practice for recording engineers to use 2 or more vocal mics at once to either pick between them all, or to mix and process each one differently, such as EQ, and compression, and then blend them together to get the final vocal sound.
dude, what the hell? you are right, i didnt see the any takes of the full body until now, still, it sounds really cool.
aaaah im so embarassed now.
amazing solo, i didnt know ryan could play the guitar so well.
Wait, is this original. I just assumed it was a cover.
Haha, no worries. No need to be embarressed. We'll say the sun was in your eyes or somthing :P
But, yeah sounds amazing! Helps he has an amazing pedal board aswell. (from the quick shots i saw)
Produced and Orchestrated by Jack Conte! It's her song, but he's done a few things. Solo project =/= you do everything yourself, just means it's under your name and you write it etc. (usually)
Oh believe me, Nataly and Jack know about it for sure, just catch their interviews, that's why they never when into a labels or anything standard before, seems to me that she wants to find out how much of a bigger impact/reach can she have if she goes more mainstream ways, but , who knows!
Great song, but we've gotten used to it from you Nat.
a Question though if i may..
why are you positioning the vocal mics the way they appear in the video (and other videos)? what is that achieving, and how do you mix and process them?
Looking forward for more :)
I have always, in the past, described your style Nat, as 'breathy'. Nothing wrong with it - I like it, coming from you. But honey-chile, there was nothing 'breathy' about that!!! Rock on!!
This song should not include that final guitar chord. That is literally my only complaint about it, but I'm serious about it. Just that second to last strum, that should be the end.
Rockabilly?!? Didn't see this coming! Still, the song is kinda cute. Nice to see her smile and laugh though. The last few songs seemed so serious. This is refreshing and fun.
I LOVE this song Please Don't Scream, Nataly! It would also be awesome if you would do a cover of "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" by En Vogue. I love you and Jack!!! :)
Yeah, I don't think he messed up the solo at all. It sounded raw. There were some notes that aren't on the blues scale (the scale we're accustomed to hearing in these songs), but those were intentional and add flavor to the solo, IMO.
It's just a good take on a classic 12-bar blues progression. From a technical standpoint, it's nothing special...but the good thing about this style is that it lets individual performers really shine, and these guys are all masters of their craft.
in some of the shots it's just been horizontally flipped, but in others they've actually flipped the mic position...I can't imagine any other reason than artistic ones...
I am a Kickstarter backer, and I was told I could download this song, but it gave me a different song (mp3) than this song, though it was still titled Please Don't Scream.
horse radish. I am a kickstarter to her project as well and I am thrilled to see her doing so well. And I still get me free album, tshirt and knowledge of knowing I helped her achieve an awesome amount of success.
Really fun song Nataly. I have shared it with my Facebook friends and encouraged all of them to buy songs from you as well as Pomplamoose and Jack.
I really don't think its about the money at this point I think its about the love of music and spreading a message. I might be wrong but who knows
You need to get your tunes someplace other than ITunes not all of us use ITunes. But I'll get it just to buy your songs =] you rock shark bait!
Very good musically. A somewhat different approach than some of her other material. Nice change of pace. Mediocre lyrically in my view however.
Hey Nataly for us old timers who aren't so trusting in high tech, where/how to get a disk with artwork and all the jazz??????Love the song
If you actually want to own your music your options are: Amazon, Bandcamp, or physical CDs. In this case, I'm just waiting on the CD.
This is great! You are so bitchin'. I mean that in the most complimentary, absolutely kind way possible! Looking forward to the album! xo
Featuring Jack Conte on tambourine and wooden block-smashing
Music is different things to different people. Don't judge because something else appeals to you. Have an open mind and heart.
if you listen very closely there's a tiny bit of echo in her voice. maybe they layered the two together to get that effect?
yeah, im probably just making stuff up, but i dont mean the scale, i mean i hear a couple of notes half there, half not.
Nataly you you really shouldn't be selling your stuff on itunes, they take most of the money they make from selling it D:
oh man, my toe is tapping. i really like your songs so far but i didn't expect a song this fun to dance to would appear!
Where can I find the names of the musicians? I'm sure you have them somewhere, you're known to honour musicians in your projects.
It sounds great, but I have to say I'm a little disappointed; I thought this song was going to be about kidnapping D:
That's definitely the inspiration, but I wonder if she is also making it ambiguous, you know, as a metaphor for a guy.
Sounds great. Music is great, but the lyrics are stupid and there is no hook. NOT going to be a hit. Keep trying Nat.
HOT SONG! --bought the 3 songs on iTunes! GO NATALY, GO!
oohh..nataly..great..great music..go your way...very good..i love your voice..best wishes from hamburg/germany..rock on! werner
Oh, that Ryan fellow, rocks so freaking hard..... you guys should all check out his youtube channel - Ryan Lerman
Damn, I would've killed to be able to direct the video
You ever thought of releasing your songs on bandcamp for those that don't want the iTunes virus on their pcs?
I KNOW, I got excited. Thank you for the reminder. :)
There's something about Nataly....I have to blog her! Wish they would bring back the Hyundai commercials!
So he faked his death to escape a multi-billion dollar industry and play bass for Nataly? Makes sense.
When I thought was about a guy :D
When i founf out it was about her old cat...o.o...Ah,whatever :D
You should mosey your way to the Sunshine State of Florida, you truly shine brighter than the sun =]
Probably my favorite yet. And the video editing was great. Looks like you have another great talent!
u have a beautiful paire... of shoulders
Jack Conte can make muzik out of anything
zeitgeistement
I actually hadn't noticed that but listened to it again and it could be! What a cool connection!
Are all your songs recorded in one session? I mean, the "base", is that recorded in a session?
It seems like every new song has a little Tom Waits sprinkled on it. It makes me seriously excited!
I just realized that my right leg is bouncing like f'ing crazy. Hot damn, this is good stuff!
Nataly has got some serious songwriting talent.
Gotta love seeing Louis Cole and Jack Conte. :D
SCREAM...we think you're awesome. Identify yourself with pride. One Message...Your Voice.
How I wish I knew her. :-)
holy shit im gonna buy the crap out of that album....then force all my friends to buy it.
I liked the acoustic version from Stageit a little better, but maybe because I'm used to it.
Yes Most Definitely :) Pomplamoose is what we need for creativity in music now a days..
I came for the chicks !
No, just kidding ! I came for Nathalie and her beautiful songs.
Actually scratch that, it looks like she took them off of Zune for some odd reason...
Can you tell us why you have the SM7B and the other mic (Neumann U87??) on Nataly's voice
