- Berthe Morisot (Bourges 1841 - París 1895), fue una pintora impresionista francesa, hija de una familia de la alta burguesía, la cual fue educada en el gusto por las artes y la música.
Su interés y capacidad creativa hicieron que profundizase en su formación pictórica, junto a su hermana Edma, de mano de los maestros Geoffroy-Alphonse Chocarne y Joseph-Benoît Guichard. Este último exponía regularmente en el Salon y animó a ambas hermanas a visitar el Musée du Louvre y copiar esculturas. En 1858 Berthe y Edma entraron como copistas en el Louvre y conocieron a Henri Fantin-Latour y Félix Bracquemond. Quizá este contacto fue lo que les llevó a proponer a su nuevo maestro, Achille Oudinot, salir a pintar al aire libre. Gracias a Oudinot conocieron a Camille Corot, que influyó en ellas de forma determinante.
En 1869, su hermana Edma abandonó su carrera artística tras contraer matrimonio, por lo que Berthe continuó en solitario su actividad pictórica. Su temática, en la que siempre habían predominado los ámbitos domésticos, se centró aún más en escenas en las que las protagonistas eran sus propias hermanas y los hijos de éstas.
En 1868, Berthe conoció a Édouard Manet, para el que posó en El balcón (París - Musée d'Orsay), presentada en el Salon del año siguiente. A partir de entonces Manet y Morisot mantuvieron una estrecha relación artística durante el resto de sus vidas, que no hizo sino aumentar con el matrimonio en 1874 de Berthe con Eugène Manet, el hermano del pintor.
Después de exponer en el Salon entre 1864 y 1868, Berthe se unió al grupo de artistas que comenzaron a mostrar sus obras en las exposiciones impresionistas. Sólo una dolencia de su única hija provocó su ausencia en la exposición de 1879. Su relación con los pintores impresionistas fue estrecha. siendo muy frecuentes las reuniones en su casa con artistas e intelectuales de la época.
Tras la muerte de Édouard Manet en 1883, organizó una exposición en su honor con la ayuda de Claude Monet, Émile Zola y otros artistas. Murió. en 1895

Berthe Morisot a great female, the artist who broke down the barriers that women faced. Her life was fascinating, strong and intelligent. She made a difference in the world. Thank you Lia for this exhibition of his paintings, are wonderful. With all my love xx

Le gustaba mucho pintar escenas familiares, especialmente a su madre, hermana, sobrina, y a su hija Julie. En este vídeo aparece la niña junto a su padre Eugène Manet, en ( 2:05 y 3:15) y en "La lección de Costura", con su niñera (2:40), entre otras.
