  • This Wendl and Lung (Feurich) grand piano is in a smallish room. The musicians who bought it appreciate a good fortissimo and the piano is well designed so can also produce a good pianissimo.
If you are a musician we'd like to encourage you to buy the longest piano you can fit in. If the volume is too strong, you can easily reduce it by adding carpet, rugs, drapes or tapestries; it's surprising what a change this can make.
We currently have a Feurich 218 in stock in Oxford and invite you to try it!

The biggest problem in choosing the right piano is that the acoustics in one room can be hugely different from those in another, so much so that it can feel as though one is not playing the same instrument. Alfred Brendel wrote an excellent chapter in his book “Musical Thoughts and Afterthoughts” entitled coping with pianos.

I will move to another house with a 42 square meter / 450 square feet living room in about one year.

Too big and the sound is simply to loud. But longest are the bass strings, lesser are their inharmonicity, better their texture. I highly hate those grand shorter than their wide, because of their crazy fatty strings. I don't like Feurich, but I have to say that I tried and really enjoyed an amazing Wendl and Lung once (not a 218 though)...
