    He never really planned to rule openly. Sidious or Dooku would have been his cipher. It was always going to end poorly once he chose Palpatine as his apprentice. But, had he divested himself of Sidious at some point, or simply recruited Dooku from the start, things would have went better for him as Dooku may have bought the peer relationship and been satisfied with ruling the galaxy as the Emperor, with Plagueis behind the scenes, and not becoming paramount Sith Lord.

      As a Jedi how was Dooku going to take control of the republic? I think people would view it as suspicious that the jedi were taking over as well as the jedi themselves seeing right through him using his jedi teachings to take power. Palpatine was positioned perfectly as no one knew who he was and used the Naboo crisis to gain sympathy. I mean no one would suspect he directed the trade federation to attack his own home world.

    Plagueis was never cut out to become the Emperor. He was a brilliant scientist, a genius in that regard and a couple others, including manipulation and business management. But Plagueis had three fatal flaws. He was arrogant, he was surprisingly lazy, and he had a pathological fear of death. Sure, a lot of Sith want to become immortal, including Sidious and Bane. But the difference is that Sidious didn't just want to live forever, he wanted to become an all-powerful god, and Bane only studied the secrets of immortality so the Sith Order would live on for eternity. Their motivations for cheating death weren't really out of fear, but more so out of a desire for power. As arrogant as he was, Sidious was no slouch. Maul, Dooku, and Vader were powerful, but Sidious was pulling their strings from the shadows the whole time, this is especially clear in the Clone Wars. The guy was ruling the Republic and the Seperatists, everybody was a pawn in his game, and not only does that show how clever Sheev was, it must have been absolutely exhausting. Ironically, once he became Emperor, Sidious became a lot more lazy and complacent like Plagueis, to the point where Vader was more or less the guy who really ran the Empire while Sidious studied ancient Sith lore. But even then, his mind was still sharp, and he did keep tabs on his Moffs and other officials to make sure everything was running smoothly. The Empire effectively imposed martial law across the galaxy, representing what a tight grip Sheev had on them, to the point where even the Hutts were forced to accept his rule. If Plagueis were Emperor, I don't really see his grip being as tight as Sidious'. He was too self-confident, and even though he was a good schemer, he wasn't really cut out for ruling an empire. Sidious and Dooku were masterful aristocrats and political schemers, Vader was a respected and feared warlord, and Maul was essentially the kingpin of the galactic criminal underworld, to the point where he had the Pykes, the Black Sun, Death Watch, and even the Hutts under his command. All of those Sith Lords were able to keep their egos in check and do their own dirty work, which is something Plagueis never did, probably out of fear for his own life.

      @KombatW0mbat Год назад +7

      That was brilliant and well put I have never ever even thought about that fear of death part. Sidous not only didn’t fear death he wouldn’t have actually minded it if vader killed him. In fact when he took Vader as an apprentice he had a high feeling that vader would one day kill him something he didn’t mind. While bane really only sought to become immortal like you said for the sith to live on. He was afraid Zannah would wait till he was weak and old something you aren’t supposed to do in the rule of two.

    This is partially true. However, Darth Plaguies was extremely good at bribing and getting people over to his side without "fear." Fear was the weapon Palpatine choose and that lead to the Galactic Rebellion in many systems. His real mistake was choosing Palpatine. If you read the novel, Palpatine was evil, truly evil, while Plaguies just "saw things from a different point of view" than the Jedi. He wanted a new order, the "Revenge of the Sith" became less and less important to him over the years, but to Sidious that was HIS ONLY goal. Long term he would have been fine, but Sidious is the badest of the bad.

  • @painlord2k
    @painlord2k Год назад +63

    The big mistake Sidious made was to kill Plagueis before learning how to become immortal.
    Then he spent 45 years plotting and running the Empire.
    With little time left to research the Dark Side of The Force.
    In fact, the Rebellion was a problem and the Death Star was his way to permanently dominate the galaxy and stop to permanently having to run things all day long.
    The biggest problem for any Sith would be the fact they went from the shadows into the light.
    It is easy to do things in the shadows, when no one knows about your existence.
    It is not so easy to do so when you are in the light and every eye in the galaxy is watching you all the time.

    Interesting analysis of Plagueis, though many of the issues here became similar faults to Sidious after he ascended to Emperor. As we have seen in the recent Bad Batch episodes, Sidious withdrew from public life once he felt his Empire was established. He spent his time studying the Force, trusting men like Tarkin to rule in his stead, believing that any atrocity they committed could be blamed on them, and that he would be able to continue his façade as the kind old man that ended the Clone Wars. When the rebel alliance began to rise, he tried to brand them Separatists, but the fear and loss of the clone wars was not as strong as it once had been. The people were not as quick to accept his lies, especially after Alderaan. Yet, it wasn't until the loss of the first Death Star that he realized that there was a problem, and by that point, it was too late.

  • @PlagueOfGripes
    @PlagueOfGripes Год назад +3

    He was portrayed as being very wise in all things besides his self awareness and his understanding of the force's more mystical nature. Sidious was flawed as Emperor in the sense that he tried to have overt control over everything while not possessing the scope of power to do so, which led him to complain incessantly about the in fighting and lack of dedication of his underlings. I believe Plagueis would have been a fine emperor in the sense of managing it. But Plagueis would have likely lost his direction like he did in his research, and retreated so far into his own projects that the Empire would have become controlled by smaller tyrants who he put at the head of things he deemed unimportant. It would probably have been a less dangerous, less overtly evil Empire but also a more directionless and corrupt one. More like the Republic itself. Even if Plagueis had perfected his work, he would have lost touch with reality as he became more obsessed with controlling the immaterial. Basically, the reverse case of Sidious, who became too obsessed with physically controlling everything instead of manipulating it, as he once had.

    As Palpatine told Plagueis as he was killing him: "You lost the moment you made me your apprentice".
    If Plagueis had chosen someone like Dooku as his apprentice, his plan to have him and his apprentice rule the galaxy as equals may have worked. But choosing Palpatine was the mistake that spelled the end for him. Palpatine was far too ambitious to ever share power with anyone.
    Also I would love a Star Wars What If show exploring things such as what if Plagueis killed Sidious and became the Emperor.

    Plaguies would be better emperor than Palpatine if (big IF! ) he actually managed to become one. Reason for that is simple, Plaguies never immersed completely into Dark Side. Dark Side actually prompted Palpatine directly to kill him. As mentioned before in this channel , Force hated Plaguies. Plaguies intended to use it, not to be used by it. Thus, unlike Palpatine, Plaguies would not be so unnecessary destructive. Palpatine was perfect to conquer power, but once he had it, he did not know what to do with it, except to make his subject hate and fear him. Plaguies would be much more cunning. He would not destroy Alderaan, he would simply kill its nobility. He would not promote psychopaths like Tarkin, but he would find the way to eliminate rebellious senators like Mon Mothma discreetly. Overall, his rule would be much more rational, and rebellion against him much less popular. Of course, lacking ability of foresight, he could become a victim of palace coup, while he pursuded his stated goal of immortality.

    Didnt Plaguies plan to rule through Sidious as his proxy all along?
    And for Sidious to make full effect of his rule, he HAD to take advantage of not only the dark side work of Plaguies, but also the social, political, and economic manipulations that were done for generations before Sidious ever got there. Plaguies built on those and then through meditation helped Sidious totally flip the balance to a dark side that clouded the light. Just TWO of them corrupted the galaxy for force sensitives.
    I think the Force destined the rule of Sidious for a time, as the galaxy spent SO long in the light. But it also destined a return to zero once the swing of the balances has been made whole again, even at the cost of billions of lives.
    That is where the son of the Chosen takes his place: Luke Skywalker.

    So this is kind of silly. But If I was to start up my own empire with resources given to me, I would begin by rebuilding General Grievous and reveal all that wasn't told to him promising him revenge against the one who tricked him as well as Maul since those two were wronged by Palpatine. Next I find any way to be able to start a New Clone Army in secret having Grievous lead the main forces as Maul be the leader of Black Ops. As For Fleets, I'll have to start by finding old ships that could be repaired and then take better ships as I go. Probably gather old battle droids too just make up for numbers till I can get a stable amount of Troopers made.
    Now My Big Plan would start in places where the Empire isn't entirely in power like Tatoonie. I'd begin to show that me and my group can take care of what the Empire wouldn't. Like The Hutts, Yes I know that is not an easy task to deal with but we'd try to keep on attacks below radar by disguising our organization like we are a competitor to the Hutts and not The Empire. Taking Over Planet after Planet in Hunt Space with Maul and his black ops troopers sneaking onto the planet to soften up defense then let grievous do the rest. We'd of course recruit people of these planets to join up as we move along.
    But how I would run my empire if this plan goes well is simple. We tried to not make the mistake that Palpitine makes. We'd have some balance of Power and Rights. But still make sure that we are not to be taken advantage of. I'd have a Senate that had a more detailed look at a Senator's Reputation or Dealings they make that all Senators would have to go through before they can be reelected. Yes it's invasive but this would only be needed for Those who are high in status of the Senate or Military. It would be my way to keep an eye for any that are getting too ambitious or egotistical.
    People of this Empire would have their Basic Rights. Pretty Much Strict but fair. Bounty Hunters will be given opportunities to work as the law for certain parts of my empire.
    Clones in this Empire have more rights and any clones that were made durning The Clone Wars are welcomed with open arms and given more opportunities other then just military.
    Now would it be easy no. But Rome was never built in a day and that's what I can think of right at the top of my head

    Plagueis always understood the true rule is always in the shadows. Subterfuge is a most powerful weapon with enemies and allies. He never meant to outright rule in the spotlight. He even told Sidious he would only advise from the dark, but him being named co chancellor would be only to tighten his and Sidious' grip on all the different factions of the galaxy who they controlled seperately... Together Plagueis and Sidious were a more formidable team than Sidious an any of his cohorts. They truly respected each other's power and cunning. Or so Sidious led him to believe... everything they did was just so much cleaner and tight knit. This was because their enemies did not know where they were or who to strike... while Order 66 was a complete success at destroying the Jedi Order they hadnt fermented enough doubt in the Jedi throughout the galaxy to not incur the Rebellion. Plagueis would have been far better at playing both sides against each other and Sidious wouldnt have acted so preemptively. He would have probably set up more Masters to be killed or lured away before the ultimate blow was dealt... his thinking leaned too as much. Sidious definitely had a successful reign but the two of them together were invincible

  • @ironman44320
    @ironman44320 Год назад

    First it should be noted that Palpatine held similar views about superiority in the wider galaxy (particularly in legends continuity) He held a particular contempt for nonhumanoids and anyone who could not use the Force, or who had power but did not wield it to it's fullest. Sidious also had some of the same characters such as overconfidence, although arguably justified, and underestimating one's adversaries. That said we must fully consider what things may have changed had Plagueis not died. Would Count Dooku have become a sith lord? Would order 66 have and the other orders been implanted in the clone troopers? Would the war have ended sooner or later? Would Anakin have been so nearly fully converted to dark side and when or if it would have happened at all. I think there are number of variables to consider in the What if scenario.

    I feel I can agree with most of this. Palpatine certainly had his own flaws, and might even have made some of thesexsame mistakes during his own reign as Emperor, but he seemed uniquely capable of pulling off the feat, even to the point it was, where others would have made more mistakes.
    I think one advantage here, of course, is the novel; we actually get a good look at Darth Plagueis; what he wants, how he thinks, and the like. It makes me sad because one of my own favorites is Darth Tenebrous, whom we know comparably so much less about. It's funny because Tenebrous used to piss me off. In the early 2000s, when I was running Star Wars role-playing, and a lot of the background hadn't been decided yet, or changed to what it became, I invented my own Sith Lord, and I called him Darth Tenebrous. He was a master buffer, and specialized in Dark Battle Meditation; the power Joruus C'Baoth used, to control armies, but his looks with all these minds, and hearing some of their thoughts, broke him, and he retreated from his title, into exile. The Rule of Two wasn't as ironclad yet, so that didn't end the Sith, but the party needed to go find him. He got his name from Vampire: the Masquerade, where Lasombra vampires used shadow-manipulating Obtenebration to impose their will on the world, and Tenebrous Form was one of the culminating powers. Using the Dark Side to stealthily manipulate people from the shadows seemed a good fit, and it hadn't been used yet. Anyway, I was less than ecstatic to see my name had been snatched up, but was totally different. Still, I liked the name, and learned to like the character. I bring this up because, since we know so much less about the Bith Sith, it makes me wonder what might have transpired had his plan succeeded, instead. Darth Tenebrous wanted to possess the Chosen One, and put his superior mind behind its superior power, but panicked, and failed. You'd think the superior scientist would have experienced setbacks before, but oh well. Still, had he not dropped the ball, and later hopped from Plagueis to Sidious, he could have had all that power, until eventually encountering Anakin, and getting his. I wonder how that would have worked? Would he have co-opted their minds, and benefitted from their thoughts, and ideas, or suppressed them, like a Gao'uld, and only had their strength, leaving his own mind unprepared for the pitfalls, the same as Plagueis proved to be? Its a shame we'll probably never get more on Tenebrous, so it will always remain a nebulous thing we'll never know for sure.

    I think that you’re failing to mention that Plagieus did in fact realize that he no longer could be the face of the empire as The Emperor in title. There is even a passage on the novelization, Plagieus that featured a conversation with him and Palpatine where he literally verbatim says that Palpatine would be the emperor while Plagieus would advise in the Shadows. I think that after this conversation, is the first time Palpatine gives plagieus the title “Darth Plagieus the wise.” Yes, Plagieus’ flaw was a superiority, however, he understood this limit, especially after his run in with the Grand Protectorate at the circle where he lost his face. Really, his biggest flaw was trusting that sidious would always view their relationship as equals and not understanding Sidious’ ambition.

    nice cover M8... but for 1 thing... Plaguies as an enperor.... would that "timeline have broken Anikan into Vader, the cyborg he became in the real Star Wars or... is it not posebel that both Plaguies and "darkside Anikin" would have done better then Palpatine?
    my points are this,.
    U cant have a "Prist" of eny religon as a Lord/King/Emperror.... It just dosent work for the normal popupeliation, as they dont understand and live by "the way of the force"
    - this is way Palpatine didten wanted enyone to know he was a Sith (to hide hes true self and look "normal")
    but if u split the Office of "the Emperror up in to 2 piaces, wher Plaguies would dived into the darkside in the shadows and shered this with darkside Anikin that rules publicy and is the "face" of the Emperrer, (just as Plaguies shered knowleged with Palpatine)
    Remember this
    1 Amikin only wanted to overthru Palpatine to save Pademe, not for the power of the office.
    2 Anikin and even Vader trusted other people, just like Plaguies did
    3 the Emperrer was never as strong as it was in the start for Palpatin loved to manepulate hes subjects,and make plans for them to fail so that he could then kill em off in a cule way.
    all in all, I see the duo of Plaguies and darkside Anikin as a much better and stronger Emperror/Emperrer then Palpatine ever was or made
    As this Emperrer wouldent be ruled by fear of hidden plots and graps for power, but baced more on loyalty and the knowleged that the one/ones in power (the Emperror) was/is a "super humen" that could take down eny foe and overcome eny problem, as both Plaguies and darkside Anikin would ues the force to overcome death and live forever (not to bigen into the story of what would then happen when Padme, Luke and Lea would join them)

    Well he wasn't all that much a Sith.. least not even in the Darkside's, Palpatine's an even the ancient Sith Lord's opinions.. which is telling.. an he's not exactly the sorta thing being an apparently devote, rare, Sith scientist to his core. He seemed to lack alot of the Sith, or even generally, ambition to rule on the LITERALLY Intergalactic Level. His biases an ego woulda made it easy to manipulate an outsmart him too in ways Sideous woulda turned to his advantage or seem right through. So he he'd probably not been THAT much a threat vs the Rebels or even Jedi. That narrated specist arrogance woulda made him extra sloppy to the Jedi an good as he was with a Saber, allegedly, he'd been little or no match had he tried to fight Yoda or Mace like his apprentice did too. So he'd died or been arrested probably pretty easy thinking he was so superior there in BOTH Force an saber skill too. Plaguis served his purpose an then it was time to move on.. even the Darkside thought so an couldn't wait to be rid of him

  • @krel3358
    @krel3358 Год назад

    It seems to me that Plaguies made the mistake of being focused on his intelligence and mastery of the force while leaving the political machinations to his apprentice. I think in this Plaguies kind of diluted the dark side in himself and he was more of a grey user because he had rather benevolent ideas while Palpatine was a full on dark sider who believed the entire galaxy and the force itself should be enslaved to his will alone and serving him. From the metaphysics of it its clear that the force itself is rather absolutist and there is no middleground approach, especially in terms of the dark side where you will be consumed by someone more evil than you are. Theres a reason why there is that scene in the phantom menace, "There's always a bigger fish"
    If you are going to be a dark sider you better be willing to do very evil things like killing children.
    If I were to make a further analysis is that I believe the Dark Side cannot win ever as it is a more reaction of the force itself to cleanse evil, in that when the Jedi become decadent and foolish, not practicing properly the dark side will rise to cleanse them and then burn itself out. The Dark side preaches material immortality which is a pipe dream or a red herring of the force as the dark side is not an end goal. The true path is what Qui Gon practiced and taught, becoming one with the force, as he was the only true jedi in the modern age up until Luke, Obi-Wan and Yoda were lucky to have Qui Gon teach them. Palpatine was never able to master the immortality techniques of his master because that is the red herring of the dark side and its cleansing nature in that its goal/ethos can never come to fruition and all who follow it are in some way deeply deceived and incomplete. You can then see it as that the force exists in cycles, when the darkness is greatest the light is ignited again kind of like the Hindu tradition that the Kali Yuga will give rise to the golden age however in this I do not consider the Disney sequels to be cannon as they do not understand the spiritual side of the story and just see star wars as a money making medium/social engineering apparatus.
